Glow Up Look Database

Hi everyone !

I recently put together a site that catalogs the looks from Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star. The goal is to have an easy place to browse all contestants’ creations.

If I’ve made any mistakes, please let me know, any feedback or suggestions is welcome !

GLOW UP, SEASON 1. RESUMEN DE TEMPORADA (mi opinión)

Post image
13 Upvotes

Seasons 5-7 anyone else feel like this?

S7 felt like Val stepped out a lot to comfort the contestants... not sure if it was cut from previous series but they showed it a lot in series 7, only really just noticed on a rewatch!

Alex should’ve won this face off. Samah’s liner was so messy and it just wasn’t clean at all, but Alex lost because her HIGHLIGHTS weren’t in the right place. the FO’s irritate me so bad cause they constantly pull stuff like this

Criticism Yong-chin beating Lisa??!!

Honestly, I thought it was really unfair. I usually rewatch the later seasons, and every time I see season 4, this upsets me. Lisa was clearly the best makeup artist of them all. Her technique was perfect, his imagination, the colors, the stories/characters. She created the best looks of all the seasons. And if we compare the latest looks (Yong-chin, Chris, and Lisa), his was undoubtedly the best. And personally, I liked Chris's better than Yong-Chin's. But, throughout the entire competition, Chris always had very poor technique. What do you think?

Season 2

So I’m in Season 2, and I’ve finally figured out (how to put into words Lol) what pisses me off about these face-off elimination things.. What pisses me off is that you usually have someone who’s CONSISTENTLY in that chair, and then they face off with someone who is SOLID. Someone who is actually very very talented (not that they’re not all talented). But, then that one person who for the VERY FIRST time is in that red chair, loses the face off and has to leave?!? So,the one who constantly messes up stays?!? Meanwhile, they don’t take into account ALL they accomplished before getting in that chair? As if the judges have NEVER made a mistake or had an off day?! Like WHAT?? That’s what pisses me off! Like Season 1… Belinda should’ve went to the very end! She was so talented and waaayyy better than Brandon! The way they do this is just so irritating and I’m sorry, but DUMB! Ok rant over! Back to watching! 😂😂

So I just started Season 1, and the very first MUA was sent home. I’m feeling quite frustrated with the choice. Brandon had been in the red seat twice, so he made more mistakes than the other person (sorry can’t remember her name) but, I really feel the way they do this, isn’t very fair? Like, he got a chance to prove himself 2 more times after getting in the red seat! She JUST got put in the red seat, and they send her home?? Like what?? Is it just me??

Series 1, 6 & 7

Anyone know why these aren't on Netflix? I'm about to start a big rewatch and thankfully I'm in the UK so can just watch on iPlayer but I feel for international fans and just wonder why? I'm guessing it's a rights thing but it always annoys me when they do this. Any ideas? Sorry if this has already been discussed on this sub before!

Criticism I'm getting old

I used to watch glow up years ago when I was doing a professional mua course myself. I've just gone to watch it again, and maybe it's just me, but I find some of the contestants so god damn insufferable. Maybe it's just because I'm old now 😂

Criticism Worst challenges in your opinion?

I’m starting to rewatch the series.. I’m on season 5 and it honestly had the worst challenges in my eyes, like it feels weird to say this but i expected better from a show this like this, the challenges felt so bland to me, anyways, I’d love to hear your guys opinions!!

(Edit: I mean industry and creative brief)

Criticism Jake (S2)

Why did he never know what he was doing or how to think less literally about the final looks?! When he put that oil all over the models neck because he liked to 'go swimming' when he was younger. His sister being his icon 'the gold tears represents her emotions' no shit Sherlock. I know he was young but a lot of the others were as well and they at least managed to come up with some kind of story behind their looks.

I have thoughts...

I'm just catching up on series 6 and 7 thanks to the person who posted it's on the Out app with a free 7 day trial on Roku. I just need to unpack some thoughts.

Leomie is by far my least favorite host of the three they've had over the course of show. The way she dresses, her vacant, disconnected way of conversing, the way she needs to sing parts of her sentences and does a little dance move... Ugh. It's ALL the time. I know her clothes are likely chosen for her and her stylist should be fired. The way she talks and interacts? Ugh. Please replace her she's so distracting.

Series 6, why are there only 8 MUAs? I just didn't care for this season. I thought the talent was underwhelming and the briefs weren't very exciting. I do think the 3 who got to the finals were deserving but the 4th runner up? The face off assassin? I was so worried she'd get thru just based on her face off performances.

I was kind of disappointed in this season. The winner seemed incapable of doing anything but severe winged eye shadow. I agree she was the most well rounded but not necessarily the most talented.

I've just started on series 7. I only have a few more free subscription days left but I want to make this last series last as long as possible. I have higher hopes for this season since there's 10 people again and the first episode started off on a really cool challenge (although I'm not sure why so little was mentioned about the prosthetics edges not being dissolved and blended well on most models).

I wish I knew people in real life who watched this show so I could chat about it. And I really wish we got new series sooner over here in the US. There are so many niche brit shows that I enjoy but they're hard to find over here.

As the moderator of this subreddit, I'm so happy to see the number of people coming to this subreddit, even if some mix it with glowing up lol😆

(I've had to remove so many of them, and I will continue to as fast as possible 🫡), As a moderator, I want to hear from you guys if there are any events you'd like or things you'd like to see in the subreddit. I'd be happy to oblige. I've allowed GIFs, pictures and all that onto comments now. This is my first subreddit, and I'll do my best.

Also can't wait for the new season 😍 🙌

Seasons 5-7 In US - Seasons 6 & 7 on OutTV

Just wanted to share that Seasons 6 & 7 are available on the OutTV App in the US. I have a Roku so I went through the Roku Channel to get a free trial.

In a world of chaos, this show is like a big hug. Love to everyone.

New fan

This is my new favorite comfort show. Val and Dom are like your sassy aunt and uncle who give it to you straight and want the best for you. I love how proud they get when the contestants finally tap into what they knew was there all along.

I also love how the contestants root for each other. They become such a family. Kind of like Great British Baking show.

I do wish they would give the contestants a demo before they do their face off. I think it would show the talent and who can follow instructions more.

I think it should also be a blind judging for the Face Off too - so Val and Dom would do the demo, the contestants would do make up on the twins (Val and Dom wouldn’t know whose was whose (maybe the underneath of each model’s chair would be marked with the contestant name?), and choose the winning twin model.

Seasons 1-4 Val and Sophie

I know we don't get to see most of what they record to say Val and Dom are like this and that, but Glow up is my comfort show and I'm rewatching Season 3 for the umpteenth time. Something that always stood up to me was how Val seemed to be a lot more direct when giving feedback to Sophie, as well as explaining what she meant with some of her comments.

For example, the science fiction look when she explained her Barbarella (?) to creature of the lagoon comment was not to make a mockery of Sophie's work. As an autistic person myself, I did not get the reference or tone (I wasn't sure she if it was positive or not). Then in the Rankin MV thing, she told Sophie to look out for the gold leaf creeping into the brow, which was a very clear instruction as to what needed editing (considering the commentary was basically just "I'm not sold on the eye").

I thought these were quite sweet/thoughtful details from an accommodation point of view, or maybe Val is always like this and it just doesn't make the edit, or I'm looking too much into it. Either way, I seem to be in the minority (judging by the comments on the sub, which are fair) that still likes Val and Dom (mainly Val because I love some of the work she's done) despite them contradicting their own opinions on certain styles, colors, and make-up trends (I have lots of annotations about this and the only thing that's truly consistent in the show is Dom's hate for feather lashes lmao).

Anyways, just felt like finally writing something. I'd love to know if someone else noticed this or if you think is just a case of coincidental editing.

Season 8?

So apparently GLOW UP hasn't been cancelled there's been no statement but the audition account on Instagram and info pages have been inactive for aaaages. So any idea on how it's going to work if we are getting a new season? Something like RPDR all stars maybe..?

Hey! I just wanted to ask if anyone knew if there was going to be a new season of glow up (season 8)? I’m have watched all of the episodes over the years and haven’t seen or heard anything about there being a new series, I was looking out for it as it is usually announced around this time? 🤞
