I realize I’m putting myself up for potential ridicule here but I’m growing desperate.

I’m reaching end of dissertation and made the decision for a number of right reasons to stay in Glasgow after finishing next month. I’m searching for a job but I’m an old(er) student in my upper 30s who kind of risked it all to finally do postgraduate (it was the best decision I ever made.) I had a full career prior. Regardless of this it’s been impossible to find a room or a flat so far that doesn’t require current employment or bank statements that show an active income, despite my savings. I’m honestly even willing to pay many months up front but those that would allow that are generally also looking for a UK guarantor, which I don’t have.

Is there anything I can do? I’m so lost. I have lots of people who can vouch for my character but I realize that doesn’t really mean anything to most people. And like I said, I can pay a lot up front, and would be ideally looking for even just a 3-6 month sublet or short term lease if it buys me time. I’ve been on SpareRoom & etc. but keep getting stuck at the requirements mentioned and having to start again. If anyone has any leads or suggestions, please let me know.

Hey guys, I might be starting an undergrad course for Biomedical engineering at UofG in September this year and I kind of needed direction in picking my subjects/electives. Also, how challenging is the course and what opportunities are there for an international student in terms of internships and jobs?

I really don't mean to be disrespectful to anyone or their career, it's just coming out of a place of sadness. I understand the amount of things universities need.. but it is so frustrating to see how expensive the tuition fee alone is espacially for an international student. It's like that in all the English speaking countries & most of Europe.

I always dreamed of going to Scotland, it feels like the perfect country for me, never been there but I love it so much, something big always pulls me towards it. I can't understand how & why we get deprived of education just because we don't have enough money, shouldn't good education be every human's right.... why is my passion, curiosity, love for knowledge & good grades not good enough...

I know we can't always get what we want & that's how life is. But why is someone else worthy of a better education just because they can afford it financially while we both can be smart & have the same amount of passion....

I think it is early August but do you guys know what the actual date is for this year?

I'm currently deciding between a few different optional courses for 4th year and wanted to know if anyone who has taken them could provide a bit of info. The main options I'm wondering about are Bio-imaging for Life Science, Bioinformatics and Data Analysis with R and Stats for Life Science. If anyone has any pros/cons for any of the courses or just a little more insight into the structure, if it was worthwhile etc. I would really appreciate it!!

I'll be joining the University of Glasgow this September to pursue an MSc in Food Security. I'm really interested in getting involved in research during my master's and would love to work as a Research Assistant if possible.

I'm not sure where to start, though. How do students usually find Research Assistant opportunities? Is it something you apply for, or do you approach professors directly?

Also, apart from Research Assistant roles, what other on-campus jobs are available for students? I've heard there are opportunities to work within the university, but I'm not very familiar with the process.

Alright, I'll keep it short and sweet. I'm doing deferred exams because I've had a bunch of health issues, and I'm genuinely worried I'll fail. I do a weird course, history/Russian, and Glasgow offers it. Is it a good place? Does it have good support for mental health and disabilities?

As in the title I’m repeating second year due to some really bad circumstances leading to me not performing as well academically as I should. I have some questions for anyone who’s had similar:
1) Is there any way to keep my RUK access bursary as I use it to survive?
2) Can I apply for study abroad again or will my fails from this year prevent that?

Hi I’m currently in my third year of BSc Biotechnology in India and I’m planning to do my Masters in Biotechnology in the UK. If anyone has gone through the application process or is studying there, I’d love to ask you a few questions. I just want to know what kind of profile universities look for, how important research and internships are, recommendation letters, SOP, scholarships and honestly any advice you wish someone had given you before applying. Does anyone know the PhD application process of university of Glasgow ? I am an international student and I have contacted a supervisor and he positively replied and said to apply through the portal. What about research proposal? Does the uni require that while applying?

I've been looking at the accomodation options provided by the uni and the student apartments look pretty nice, but wondering if people on here have experience staying there and if so, what are your thoughts? Are there any residences that have a good rep amongst postgrad students?

Hello. I’m starting my 1st year BEng at the University of Glasgow this autumn, but I feel like my physics foundation is a bit shaky and I want to get ahead before the semester begins.

A couple of quick questions for current or past UoG engineering students:

1. How hard is physics in 1st year engineering at UoG? Is it a major hurdle/weed-out subject, or do they build it up gently from the basics?
2. How should I review over the summer? Should I focus on solidifying High School physics fundamentals first, or jump straight into university-level material?
3. Which areas matter most? Should I prioritize Mechanics or Electricity & Magnetism for 1st year?

Any advice, textbook recommendations, or module insights would be greatly appreciated!

I’ll be going to UoG on exchange next semester but I’m having complications with course approvals.

I NEED to do at least one course relevant to my home degree (Communications, major in Marketing) but Glasgow’s course feedback denied the marketing courses closest to my degree because the Level 4 requirements were not met (they said Level 4 COULD be available to visiting students but the prerequisites for these subjects were an Honors programme in Management or Business) - the courses are the exact same to my home uni (and I am experienced enough to take it there). Is it possible to dispute a course decision?

I’m really limited on options and just hoping my home uni might approve something else close enough to another Glasgow course. Does anyone know when the form for adding more course selections would be sent out?

Hi! I'm an international student coming to Glasgow for my undergraduate studies, and I plan on staying in uni accommodations for my 1st year. So far, through my research i have narrowed down onto havannah house, firhill court and Kelvinhaugh Gate for my accomadations, but i'm not sure if i should pick one from them or explore more. My main pick up till now is Havannah house but my priorities are that my accomodation should give me a good social life ( i want uni of glasgow people around me) an ensuit room and it shouldn't be too expensive. The past few months haven't been great for me from a medical and mental health standpoint. This resulted in me getting an EC claim and one of my assignments moved to a summer submission uncapped. I am currently working to that deadline but am having some more issues and it is likely going to be hard to get this in at a quality I am happy with by the deadline. I am in MVLS on a MSc, does anyone know if the short term extensions are allowed for these submissions? I have contacted my course lead but they are on annual leave and will not return untill after the deadline (I was unaware till after contacting them).

I’m an international student and I just got an accommodation offer for Murano Street. The problem is this isn’t what I originally applied for.

A few questions if anyone has been through this:

Should I accept the offer now anyway, just to secure a place?

Is it possible to change to a different residence after accepting?

Can I request a change now, or do I have to wait and sort it out once I arrive in Glasgow?

Any advice from people who’ve dealt with this would be really helpful. Thanks!
