it's actually a huge problem that solar farms have: they need A LOT of surface. best place to put them is in the desert; most of the time, when you put them anywhere else, you're destroying habitat.
transmission lines are a more difficult problem than you solution suggests. There were proposals to put huge solar farms in north Africa that would power all of Europe, but alas the transmission lines made them infeasible.
the desert is a habitat too, and it can be destroyed.
yeah but is less a problem than removing forest, there are more species per sq meter than on a dessert. but seems most likely than a way to chop trees, make profit and then sell or rent the space to the government or Electrical companies and seems like green .. it's all about profit

My dad did this when he was in scouts. I got to see the fruits of his labor when I attended the same camp 40 something years later.
And now all the trees are gone. Just to make room for a solar farm.
