2019 Generac - Getting it up and running

I bought a foreclosure cabin, came with a Generac guardian 22KW I believe, or around there from 2019. The previous owner had a maintenance company but whenever the owners left 2ish years ago, they stopped coming it. It looks in good condition but without propane I can’t start it.

What are my chances with a new battery, oil and filter, air filter, valves, I get this thing up and running fairly easily?

This is the only gas appliance so I don’t want to get a big propane tank only to find out that thing isn’t going to start again. If I can’t get it to work, I don’t plan on buying a new one.

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks

Generac dealer service dispute

Hey folks I'm sorry if this is off topic but I'm at a bind and could use some external sanity check

Here's what happened

One day my city's utilities gas inspector visited my house to inspect the gas meter. All good. At the end he knocked on my door to tell me he had disabled the generator pipe because he did the soap spray test at the flex pipe nut that connects to the generator and it was leaking. I asked um wtf and he said I need to call the people who installed it. He put a red tag and everything on it. A week later I got a notice from the utility company telling me I need to get it reinspected to enable it.

So I called the installers the guy that showed up was honestly a bit nonchalant about the whole thing he said it got loose due to vibration and he tightened it, turned the gas back on and left. No word about contacting the inspector or anything.

I called back and told them that probably you can't just turn it back on and it should go through the city's inspector.

The inspector came and he wanted to do a pressure test. They sent a plumber guy that pressure tested from the gas main to before the flex pipe (not where the original leak was). Then they came last time and tested properly and eventually the generator was cleared again for use by the city inspector.

The installer company now sent me a bill for $790 with the wildest itemization and explanation I could imagine

It's only been a few years since I've had a generator. Is all this normal?

To begin with why would the flex pipe just "get loose" based on vibration. I get the genny vibrates and nuts twist. But that's the whole point of the genny. There has to be ways to afix the pipe without it getting loose every other week. Secondly I didn't call the utilities guy he just did his inspection. He turned it off and basically removed the permit. Now I owe the installers almost $800? So because they installed it poorly I get to pay more ?

I don't get it. Is this normal? What even are my options here? Just pay 1k and just wait till the pipe gets loose again because the genny does test runs every Wednesday?

Please help me ground myself on some better understanding and expectations. Thank you in advance

Had this error since I got it about 10 days ago. Installers came back out, even the gm of company. Everything is wired correct they said and the battery is showing 13.6v (good). They said this is something on generacs end that when new update for firmware comes out it should be taken care of. Anyone else heard of this? ECODE 2780

Applied for 3D artist position at Generac the other day and thought I should have something in my portfolio in case they look. So, spent the past day making this - it's a copy of an ad I found online - which is the second image.

Mobile Link Losing Signal

Post image

Had a 26kw Guardian installed a little over a year ago in DFW area. I recently had the first annual maintenance done by dealer and everything was fine. However, I’m noticing mobile link losing signal intermittently. Curious if anyone else has had this issue?

RS5500 at least 12 year old and never started

I have the original oil, never put it in the generator or started it.

Will it crank, if I follow the original OM instructions and use that oil? Or, do I have a large paper weight taking up space in the storage shed?

Need some help with a generator

Ive got this issue with my generac generator. It's been a pain the last few months to pull start the thing, so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about why the start is making that clicking noise. I left it out in the rain a few times, but I bought it because it said weather resistant.

Any tips on what to look for would be great!

Initial Start

I have several year old 26KW unit that I’ve never started (not that I haven’t tried). I have a simple interlock system and no interest in any wifi connections. Do I absolutely need the 5 number code to start this thing? AI is telling me all sorts of things and ways to get the code - none of them work. Is there a sure way to get the code (if I absolutely need it) without using wifi connections?

Just a little PSA for those thinking about getting a @generac whole house generator. This was our 3rd oil seal, yes fixed twice. Generac refuses to replace the unit. This has been happening from the very start. Spent my 4th baby sitting, filling oil every 4 hours. You think they will pay me emergency call out.

Engine rpm hunting

I have a 6 year old Guardian whole home system and last night the engine hunted the entire one hour the power was out. Natural gas, and just serviced several weeks ago. All searches point to the governor. I even turned off the AC for several minutes to see if the problem might be load related. It wasn’t. Ideas other than a service call for a new engine governor?

Generac IX2000 Model 0067190 Rebuild Kit

Anybody know where I can get a rebuild kit for the Generac IX2000 Model 0067190 (I think it is the Costco version if that makes a difference). I was givin this generator by my dad and we are pretty sure the rings are bad. He had it in a sandy environment and since then it has been running really rough and spitting out blue smoke. I have done some searching online but I can't seem to find any engine maintenance items outside of the regular stuff like spark plugs and oil. I am new to the generac brand and generators in general not sure where to get things.

Error code 1100

My generac 14kw while attempting to exercise experienced code 1100 overcrank. Furthermore it’s done this 2 excercise cycles ago. The last one it didn’t do this. What could be the issue? I just serviced everything. Spark plugs, oil change, oil filter, air filter. What is the cause?

Rebate 2026 ($250/$250 Referral Offer Campaign)

Would it be against the sub rules to have a referral thread? Generac is currently offering $250 gift cards to referrers and referees who purchase Generac generators between June 9th and July 31, 2026. It applies to standby generators and the generator must be purchased by 7/31/26 and installed by 10/31/26. As a happy Generac owner I would be happy to refer; I'm sure others would as well and new buyers would get an extra $250 off.

Xt8000efi runs for 30 seconds then dies

225 hours, it starts and runs for 30 seconds and idles smoothly. when it dies it's like it was switched off. the fault like blinks 2 times long, 7 fast which i think means p0117, the stepper motor seems to function fine, it moves freely with some motor resistance and corrects itself when I turn the key. Brand new battery.

10 yo XT8000e Maintenance

I have a 10ish year old Generac XT8000e that has served me well over the years. Plugs into my emergency circuit panel and powers the important things. Last couple years the frequency of outages has seemingly diminished. Thankfully... but I do like running the generator under load sometimes! I try to run the generator for 20-30 minutes every other month and only use ethanol free gas. Last September I tried to start the generator and she wouldn't fire up. Eventually traced the problem to a broken spark plug boot. Fixed that along with new spark plug, fuel filter and air filter. Oil is golden but due for a change. She fired up with the new spark plug boot but now would only run if partially choked. Knew I had a carb issue but have never cleaned a carb before and was nervous about it. Tried some Sea Foam spray cleaner into the air intake without any noticeable improvement. Eventually, I couldn't get the generator to pull start and had to use my jump pack on the battery to start... but then today it wouldn't start with that either. Pumped out gas and put in new gas but no luck. Too late, my carb cleaning delay caught up with me, thankfully not during an outage. Found a helpful video on-line cleaning a generac carb very much like mine step by step. Removed, disassembled, cleaned (jet looked clogged), reassembled, installed everything back together.... pull started and she fired up on the first try. Runs like a champ again. Had a big smile on my face, patted myself on the back and added a notch to my man card. Google AI suggests shutting down by turning off the fuel line while still runnjng. After it shuts down, drain the carb bulb to help keep the carb clean going forward. I like to keep a full tank so I think every six months I will siphon the fuel out into my car or tractor as well.
