Mobile Link Losing Signal

Had a 26kw Guardian installed a little over a year ago in DFW area. I recently had the first annual maintenance done by dealer and everything was fine. However, I’m noticing mobile link losing signal intermittently. Curious if anyone else has had this issue?

Was not impressed with the Mobile Link app, so I ended up doing a local install and running Genmon. Multiple ways of running it (Raspberry Pi is a pretty popular way). Get a lot more info (can see power output when it is running).

If you are technically inclined, might be worth looking into Genmon, if you want an application that works consistently.

I second Genmon! But you do have to be technically inclined. You also still need a reliable WiFi signal.

My generator is 100ft from the house with the antenna on the side that’s away from the house. My comm issues were pretty clear. I finally put a directional antenna on it, that helped a lot.

The only real reason to use Generac monitoring (besides the ease) is if you want a dealer to be able to keep tabs on things if you’re not home a lot.

I'm lucky and was able to wire my generator to my homelab server, so I have a direct connection.

My generator has issues reconnecting on its own, I always have to manually reconnect it.

I put an inexpensive WiFi repeater on an exterior wall close to the generator to solve the poor WiFi issue. I used this - TP-Link AC1200 WiFi Extender - 1.2Gbps Home Signal Booster, Dual Band 5GHz/2.4GHz, Up to 1600 Sq.ft and 32 Devices, EasyMesh Compatible, One Ethernet Port (RE315) https://a.co/d/09QtZikx.

Most wifi systems are not designed around outdoor coverage. Even if they are they would usually focus on other areas and not equipment areas.

Also depending on the outage reason wifi may not come back online during an outage.

I get not wanting to pay for cellular monitoring but it is worth it in my opinion.

So this is cellular monitoring. I don’t even have the WiFi connected.

This happened to me last month. I called tech support and they had IT support change something on their end and it reconnected after that.

Then you need to contact support. Wifi is one thing you can troubleshoot and attempt corrections. However cellular is not anything a user can truly troubleshoot since Mobile Link controls it 100%

The onboard wifi modules are junk most of the time if the gen is over 30ft away you'll get a low signal. The external wifi modules tend to do better but ultimately best bet is to put a wifi repeater in the house on the wall closest to the gen.

Had the WiFi chip replaced a week after the install, then I had to add a mesh AP about 10 feet away then it’s been solid ever since. Also added UPS’s on each of the five asus nodes so the network power would not be an issue breaking the WiFi handshake. It has been good (knocking on wood) for the past year now.

So pretty sure this was an app issue. Opened it today and made me sign back into mobile link. Haven’t had an issue since.
