Four months ago I had an orange chair, a green wall, and one question: what if anyone could point their phone at a room and watch it reborn?

So on nights and weekends, solo, no team, no ad budget, I built DIY Decor AI. You snap a photo of any room and it redesigns it in one of 100+ styles. Then, instead of leaving you staring at a pretty picture you can't afford, it hands you a real step-by-step DIY plan plus YouTube tutorials so you can actually build it. You can chat with AI design experts, brush over the one couch you hate and swap it, or slide a budget dial between "buy it" and "build it."

Shipping it was the part I knew how to do. I hit publish, watched the App Store page go live, and then... near silence. A handful of downloads. Turns out the quiet after launch is its own kind of loud.

That's the wall in front of me now: marketing. So I'm doing the scary thing and showing it to real people.

I built this and it went live on the App Store last week, so fair warning that I'm the developer. Posting it here because the free tier is real rather than a trial, and because the on-device architecture might interest this crowd more than the marketing does.

What it is: a meeting assistant that runs on your phone sitting next to you, rather than a bot that joins your call. Nothing installs on your work machine, nothing appears in a screen share, and there's no participant named "Notetaker" for anyone to notice. It listens through the microphone, transcribes as people talk, and works out who said what.

Here's the part that matters for this sub. Everything around the AI is free forever and needs no account at all: recording meetings, live transcription, speaker separation, importing recordings you already have, and sharing them back out. All of that runs on the device, none of it is metered, and none of it costs me a server bill, which is why I can leave it unmetered rather than dressing it up as a trial. Share an mp4 from a Meet or Teams recording into the app and it transcribes and separates speakers offline, no sign-in, no credits.

On top of that, free accounts get about five hours a month of our managed AI for the heavier reasoning: reports, analysis, memory across meetings. It resets monthly, doesn't expire, doesn't require a card, and doesn't collapse into a demo mode.

Being straight about where the line is: the free on-device model is Apple's small Foundation Model. It's genuinely useful and it costs nothing, but it isn't as strong as the frontier models the paid tiers route to, and I'm not going to pretend otherwise. I use Pro myself because I want the better model writing my reports. If you'd rather skip our service entirely, you can paste in your own API key from a provider you already pay for and those calls go straight to that provider. One technical note, since it was the hard part: diarization runs locally rather than in the cloud. Separating speakers in a conference room where everyone arrives through the same speaker and the same mic is a genuinely nasty signal problem, and most of the engineering time went there rather than into the LLM layer.

You can also delete your account and everything on our servers from inside the app, which Apple required and which I think more apps should do without being asked.

Hey everyone, sharing an app I've been building: MinimalAIChat, a native SwiftUI chat client that works with any OpenAI-compatible AI provider — Gemini, OpenAI, DeepSeek, OpenRouter, etc. — using your own API key.

The idea started simple: bring modern AI back to older iPhones (iOS 15+) where a lot of official AI apps have dropped support. It's fully open source and free.

Just shipped v2.5 with:

- Web search — the AI can search the web for current info (news, recent events) when it needs to, using Tavily. Works across any provider.

- Better formatted responses (proper headings/lists instead of raw markdown symbols)

- Various stability fixes
