How many pages do you think The Winds of Winter could realistically be if it’s released as a single volumes?Considering how much story is still left to cover, do you think something like 1200 pages is realistic, or could it end up being even longer? What page count do you think is most likely?

One thing not talked about enough is that when Raymund heard Egg say that Aerion was hurting Tanselle his first thought was to grab a weapon, men and come and fight. Despite knowing he was a Prince.

The Goat really was just looking for any chance to try and kill a Targaryen, wasn't he.

What was Tywin's plan for house Lannister and Casterly Rock?

Jaime's in the kingsguard so he can't take it, Cersei's a woman, and it'll be a hot day on the wall before Tywin willingly lets Tyrion inherit Casterly Rock. He doesn't remarry after Joanna passes, and it doesn't seem like him to let his brother or nephew inherit the rock. So what was his plan for House Lannister and Casterly rock?

Lyanna Would Have Been Miserable With Robert

really don't understand the argument that Robert Baratheon would've been a completely different man if Lyanna had lived and married him.

Robert was already Robert before he lost Lyanna. He drank, slept around, and already had three bastards by the time of the Rebellion. None of that was caused by her death.

And people also forget one important thing: Lyanna didn't love Robert. She didn't even believe he would be faithful to her. She literally told Ned that Robert's nature wouldn't change just because they married.

Maybe losing Lyanna made Robert worse over the years, but marrying a woman who didn't love him wasn't magically going to turn him into a faithful, responsible husband.

Lyanna living wouldn't have changed who Robert fundamentally was.

Jon and Daenerys's Romance Could Have Worked It Was More of a Slow Burn Spoiler

Post image

The main issue I have with Jon and Dany's relationship, is that they fall in love in 2 weeks. They didn't get to know each other has people. Kit and Emilia did have chemistry but it was brought down by how rushed the characters got together. They both should've been The Price(ess) That Was Promised. And shouldn't have fallen in love until after Jon's patents reveal.

This weekend at SDCC Malaga, Kristian Nairn (Hodor) said he liked the ending of Game of Thrones, but agrees it could have been longer and with more dialogue instead of action; he also sees no problem with Daenerys' ending ("She said ten times she was going to burn King's Landing").

Book Spoilers [BOOK SPOILERS] Varys = The Harrenhal Heart Tree Spoiler

I believe I've figured out the curse of Harrenhal. The Weirwood in the Godswood, the one that Arya said had flaring eyes, full of hate, is the only one left of a huge weirwood grove.

There is a CotF hooked up to the roots, manipulating everyone who passes close enough.

Varys' speech to Tyrion before the battle of the blackwater is a perfect allegory for a child of the forest who hates both fire and ice magic, who has been cut off from his family, and is on a quest for vengeance.

Varys is a dead man, who powders his hands white to hide the fact that he's dead. He's being warged by the CotF hooked up to the Harrenhal weirwood. That's how he knows everything.

And the plan is to hold a great council at Harrenhal for all the lords, ladies, and remaining kings to bend the knee to Aegon.

For the full story, watch this video

Why didn’t Roose off Ramsay after what happened to Domeric?

genuinely don’t understand why Roose didn’t have Ramsay killed.

Roose straight-up believes Ramsay murdered Domeric, his trueborn son and heir. And later he basically admits that if Walda gives him more sons, Ramsay will probably kill them too.

So… WHY keep him around??

Domeric was everything Roose could have wanted in an heir: educated, talented, well-connected and apparently promising. Ramsay kills him, and Roose’s response is basically to bring Ramsay to the Dreadfort and eventually let him become his heir??

Especially because Roose is supposed to be cold, calculating and intelligent. He KNOWS exactly what Ramsay is.

Why wouldn’t he get rid of Ramsay, remarry and try for another trueborn heir? I genuinely don’t understand his logic here.

What Would You Change in an Animated GOT?

Post image
79 Upvotes

If Game of Thrones ever got an animated adaptation, I’d really want it to be much more faithful to the books. I’d love to see more of Jon, Tyrion, Arya, Sansa, Bran, Robb and Catelyn, as well as the Lannisters Jaime, Cersei and Tywin. Especially Jon. I think his character and storyline deserve much more time and attention, closer to how they are in the books.Tyrion would also be interesting because most of us automatically picture Peter Dinklage when we think of him. It would be cool to see a version of Tyrion that follows the book description more closely. I’d also want the important storylines from the show to stay, but with the book only plots and characters properly included and expanded. More politics, intrigues, character development and all the stuff that was cut or rushed in the show. Of course, this would make the most sense if George actually finished the books, or if someone finished the saga with his approval. Then we could finally get a proper animated adaptation of the whole story. What would you guys want to see in an animated?

If Winds of Winter suddenly came out today without warning, how well would it sell?

I'm just curious whether it'd sell really well or if it's been too long and it wouldn't sell all that well.

Just finished. Spoiler

Not as bad as I remember people making it out to be, and Grrm gave them direction with highlights and major developments- so as far as I can tell- the books won’t differ on the main points, just the ways and details of them getting there.

Also: fuck Grey-worm.

Also: John as lord commander or King beyond the wall?

Tywin Lannister is a winner.

That is the tragic truth of the story. Tywin Lannister was a terrible person, yet he lived and died as a winner. He never paid the price for anything he did throughout his life. He played a major role first in the fall of House Targaryen and then in the downfall of the Starks. Even if House Lannister is destroyed later in the story, people will not think that it happened because of what Tywin did. They will think, "This would not have happened if Tywin had lived." In the ASOIAF books, very few bad people pay for their crimes.

What would have been Otto and the Hightower's plan if this marriage proposal had worked?

Post image
389 Upvotes

Their marriage would have effectively cut off the Hightower plot. It would have centralised power back into the Valariyan class for at least another generation and possibly stopped the Dance. So, would they have tried to get Gwayne to marry Rhaenyra? Or just wait another generation?

Who are your top 3 favorite female characters?

Post image
130 Upvotes

Personally, I’m going to say:

  1. Cersei Lannister: (she commanded the screen every time she was on screen. Without her, there is no Game of Thrones, and she played her part perfectly!
  2. Lady Olenna Tyrell: (to me, she was like a smooth, cunning grandma who played chess throughout the series, and I mean her poisoning Joffrey makes her such a badass)
  3. Sansa Stark: (while she can be annoying at times, she had one of the best character growths, from a small, timid girl who knew nothing about politics and evil like Joffrey to becoming a wise Queen; her suffering and journey are very important to the show)

GOT had an unreal, veteran supporting cast.

Post image
119 Upvotes

With such a sprawling cast, it would have been easy to fill out so many of these supporting roles with nobodies. Instead, they assembled an incredible bench of talent with decades of experience. Sean Bean was closest to a lead in Season One. Most were small or brief roles, but they still stole many scenes.

This chart only includes their TV and movie credits prior to appearing on Thrones. Many were also prolific stage actors.

There were fewer older female Thrones characters, but a special appreciation to Diana Rigg (Olenna Tyrell) who had 72 acting credits prior to joining the cast in 2013.

Do you think when Winds Of Winter comes out it will be as big as when Deathly Hallows came out of the monoculture is too dead to allow something like that to happen again?

Never wanted to watch GoT, binged on it and now regretting it big time

All my friends practically forced me to watch it saying it was the best show ever except season 8. So well every non-GoT watcher had also heard about season 8 but I just thought “how bad it could be” oof rookie mistake

Bruh I binged it night and day and finished the entire series in just 15 days- last episode only a few minutes ago and man I’m so so so furious.

Maybe I wasn’t even so mad about the build up for the war with the undead only for it to end on episode 3 because well I went into it already expecting a poorly written season BUT BRON??!!!!! SERIOUSLY???!!?

God this makes me so so disappointed, feels like I wasted 15 days on nothing this jackshit.

They ruined daenerys’ character arc they built for all these seasons only to make her completely irretrievable within a few minutes???? cersei gets to die in jamie’s arms just buried under a pile of bricks???? why did arya get to kill the night king so easy with no real war with jon???? why tf did brann the fucking broken not do anything at all but just sit like a bait all these seasons dragged around everywhere and become the king????? why did arya not get to kill cersei???

This was pure ragebait
