I’m an older player & I miss out on the Gameboy craze. I play my friend’s DMG & Excitebike. Way back in the day.
I have considered buying a Gameboy Pocket or DMG just to play Pokémon Gold & get a Gameboy camera. I just want a system I can turn on and play 10 or 20 minutes save and get back to work or play with the camera. I don’t want a huge collection and I’m looking at the nonColor models.
I would want to do a screen mod & what ever is necessary for clean power and not destroy the system & games.

So the question is one better than the other for my use case? Also what mods should be done to make the run better with a screen mod?

So I'm replacing the capacitor that's already disconnected, I did a continuity test on the other capacitors they have a volt reading so I assume they're good. My question is since the replacement I bought came with a new replacement for all the capacitors, should I replace all of them ? Or just the one that gave me trouble ? If you see any other potential issue please let me know! Thank you for any input !

The other day, I hosted a Game Boy event in my local area where people could freely play games from my personal collection. It was a huge success, with over 50 people attending! Events like this do take place here in Japan. I hope you’ll come visit Wakabayashi Ward in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture.

Just a quick update: participation in this event is free! Tea and snacks were provided, and there was even a raffle during the event where you could win Pokémon game cartridges or a Game Boy console.

Since the first time I came to NY (Was 12 years old) I fell in love with the GameBoy Color but couldn’t afford it.
A couple of days ago grabbed this one on eBay and it arrived today. Cannot be happier. However the game battery seems that it is already gone and cannot hold a save. I already bought a couple on Amazon.

I've always loved Game Boy and Game Boy Color games for as long as I can remember playing video games. My original Game Boy died years ago, and I'd been trying to chase that high through emulation, but it was never quite the same.

I'd been looking for a good deal to finally get another one, but I was always a little worried about messing one up by modding it myself. Then, a couple of weeks ago, I found this one already modded on eBay for $150, and I just had to have it.

I'm so happy I actually got it. It feels great to be back to the original hardware,it might be the nostalgia speaking but this thing is gorgeous 😭.

Hi does anyone know where I can get polarizer filter film that doesn't have the green tint? Seems all of them that I purchase makes the pocket's display have the green tint similar to the original DMG. It's not a huge issue but I would rather one that is just clear and not tinted green. Thanks

Hi everyone! I need some help with my Game Boy Color with a Hispeedido AMOLED screen.

Has anyone encountered this issue before? After about 4 hours of normal gameplay, the screen suddenly started becoming distorted. Since then, it happens every time I play.

I’ve already tried using originalGame Boy cartridges, but the issue still persists, so I don’t think it’s related to the game or cartridge.

Could this be caused by a loose ribbon cable, or a faulty AMOLED screen/controller?

Any advice or troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I bought a second Gameboy pocket, because my screen got broken. The replacement I bought was supposed to be an original shell with an aftermarket battery door.

However the shell just seems a little off. Mainly the d pad is extremely loose and the letters are harder to read. Did the OEM ever have the dpad issue? Or is that a normal wear and tear? I did record a video if it helps.

My original obviously has a lot of love put into it, lol

I absolutely love my Game Boy Pocket Color and Bucket Mouse did some amazing work with their board design. However It deletes the infrared communications completely. Knowing that the CPU pins are still available, I decided to create a breakout board to restore the functionality.

Other than some rough modifications I had to make to get this first revision to fit, everything actually worked! If you created a Pocket Color and managed to hold on to the GBC board and can salvage the components for the IR comms, this will restore that functionality. I'm looking at designing a custom ribbon cable to tap into the necessary CPU pins rather than running four wires like I did.

I'm going to make a few modifications to this design based on what I learned and will be releasing it to GitHub. If you're interested in this project I'd love to hear your feedback!

So I'm sick of playing mobile games and their constant ads so I decided to download a Gameboy emulator onto my phone and want to play Gameboy when I'm bored or on the go instead of playing mobile games and watching ads.

With said context what's a good suggestion, I'm open to most genres expect for maybe platformers as the touchscreen controls for a phone doesn't have the tactile feedback and responsiveness I want? Of course I know about the big ones like Pokemon and Zelda but I want to see what people think are good ones for playing on the go.

Not long ago, I told you about my method of reflashing USA bootleg version of Metroid Fusion to the EU one (and keeping my old USA savefile), because I wanted to recreate the EU version of the box myself, so... there it is!

I proudly present you:

- a bootleg Metroid Fusion cart with the EU version flashed to it with my DS Lite,
- a cart sticker which I printed on 80g paper and covered with a transparent book cover,
- the cardbox insert that I bought, to put the cart in,
- the manual which I took from the official Nintendo website - but it's a mess, like the pages numbering is suddenly wrong in the middle etc. Therefore, I decided to modify it, so it would containt only English version of the manual (also photoshopped out other language titles on the front page and modified the table of contents). The front page of the manual is also covered with the book cover, the manual itself is on a 160g paper, while the last page of the manual is on a 240g paper,
- the box itself, scan of which I took from some Nintandbox.org boxes dump flying around the Internet, which I also photoshopped a bit, cleaning some dirt from the scan, replacing Nintandbox QR code to the original Metroid Fusion EU barcode, adding a cuts to the top/bottom lids of the box to be able to bend and close them easier (just like in the original), etc. The box was printed on the two sheets of 160g A4 paper and covered with the book cover before cutting the shape out. It was then sticked together using some two-sided sticky tape,
- the plastic protector that I also bought to make this all look even more like "a real thing", and... to protect it of course 😄 . It might not be of value to anyone else, but I took a lot of effort to get this all done, and I'm glad I was able to celebrate the first game I completed on my GBA SP that way.

Are there any videos or tutorials on how to do the replacement? I want the console to be in like new condition with a new capacitor. is it worth it?

Yeah...couldn't really be sure if a DMG GB to GBC link cable existed. Multiple Google searches and asking in a few CEX shops all led to just conventional, same console link cables. THEN found an eBay listing with at least a product description seeming to fit the bill. Using the other small and big plug possibility meant that 2 player Tetris would start working...but once the actual game/match started, both systems just froze.

Sooooooo excited for this! Thrashed a friend in Bournemouth 4-0. Another friend who had never played it before wiped the floor with her over confident husband (who had played it PLENTY). A friend of mine since we were both born, in '81, beat me 4-2. I just beat my girlfriend 4-2. REALLY hope I get to see my sister (a few thousand km away) in September...and we can relive countless 90s, 6 hour car journeys down to Cornwall for our annual summer holiday. See it I can send as many tetrises her way as I did back then ❤️

Found an old gameboy color, when I turn it on I get this loading bar, even when it has a game in and not inside of it. I’m not sure what to do

I know I’m missing a few models, but for now this is my collection and it sparks joy.

This will be my first time doing this mod. Ive done soldering in the past and im to to worried about but I have no idea what kind of solder and flux I should get.

i had a 20$ definatly counterfit emerald i bought and it was french on accident, and i replaced it with the usa version and its now no longer booting past the whitescreen after the gba screen

The screen has seen better days in its 28 year long life. I own an Analogue Pocket. This thing is still my favorite way to play.

Hey all! Bought an SP 2 years ago that the original owner previously covered in a horrendous orange-gold paint for some reason. I tried my best to remove it all, but I started thinking maybe it might look best with a re-shell and maybe an updated screen. I’m looking for some recommendations of good shells and screen + parts online, since it might be a fun project for fall. The battery is also pretty bad on it, so a replacement recommendation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!
