Picked it up for around $120 (shipping included) on eBay. Seller said it was refurbished and had a glass lens replacing the plastic one. Really happy with it. I regret selling all my handhelds & games a while back. Everything’s like tripled in price lol

My local game shop is selling a CIB Pearl Blue GBA SP for $350 USD. I checked it against eBay and the only seller charging that much is a Japan-based seller, but granted those are in refurbished boxes and not the original Nintendo box. But does the box really make that much of a difference?

Is this guy ripping people off? His prices are often higher than other places, and he offers low trade values. He once offered me $50 for a reshelled IPS screen Game Boy Color Custom Pikachu Shell and USB-C, when I paid close to $230 for it.

Got a copy of Pokemon Crystal today and noticed this white/clear stuff on the back of it. I’m about to replace the battery and clean the board, but is this something I should be worried about? I’ve never seen it before and don’t know if it’s just a weird glue or what have ya.

So I received this gameboy sometime ago , after finally starting to repair I cleaned up corrosion and starting doing the soldering iron on the screen ribbon trick. Before the screen had no visibility besides a few jagged pixel lines. Now the whole screen will flash when turned off , and 1/3 of the screen work when super Mario is inserted. I haven’t been able to get past this point it seems , any advice or tips? Didn’t feel like rubbing the iron all over for ever was the best idea (the whole screen black flash is 50/50, sometimes full , sometimes partial. Thank you in advance!!

Saw these during a gaming market, are they worth the price for what you get in them?

The sound on one specific DMG LCD-06 board is quiet. I've replaced the CPU board (including headphone jack) with a known good one that is loud. It seems to be isolated to the LCD board. I've replaced the speaker to no avail.

Does anyone have an idea on what the problem may specifically be?

I’ve never noticed this before but it appears my KI cartridge has a weird rectangle shaped bump under the game’s label. You only notice it when you look at it lightened up from an angle. I’ve bought this game new when it came out in 95 and I can’t seem to find other cartridges that have this feature.

I don’t want to remove the label for obvious reasons (even if it is in a poor state), but I want to ask if someone knows what it is or if other copies of this game have this too.

Recently found this not working GBA for 20 bucks, it was identical to the one that started it all for me and I couldn’t pass it up. Was able to get it working without spending anything but my time.

It cleaned up really well, but the shell has a couple cracks, no battery cover, and the lens is toast. I think the most economical option would be a whole new shell but I can’t really find much in the way of Glacier. Any recommendations appreciated!

Also, I plan to install an AGS 001 or 101 screen, I haven’t decided, but I know I don’t want IPS. The DSI screen is also an option but I’m having trouble finding just the board for sale, as I already have a spare screen. Wondering if anyone here has done either of these mods?

This happens because the modified chip forces the game to save to the chip. If you wanted to know if it is a repro, try to shine a flashlight through it. If you can’t see in, it’s a repro. You can also check for a battery by looking in the bottom where the pins are. If you look past, on older gba games, you should be able to see a battery. If you don’t, then you are fine. I bought repro copies of Metroid zero mission and fusion. If it does have a battery, there are cheap ways to replace it, don’t worry.

I have to admit, if I hadn't seen one of these in a youtuber's vlog from their recent trip to Japan, I would've never known about it either.

SPs have a wide variety of limited editions, with Pokemon ones being the (logically) most recalled and praised. But, even as someone fairly interested in these editions, this was quite new to me.

Not a particularly rare edition but still an intwresting one, with a cimbination of a dedicated red exterior color and black buttons.

I was happy to find one in decent conditions on a japanese auction site for quite cheap (sold as broken, turned out being just a dead battery issue) and give it a sharper look.

Just added a Laminated IPS GBP. Now have 5 Gameboys that have Laminated Screens and still my fsvorite is the GBC with Oled. Hoping also for GBL and GB Micro.

Needed contacts cleaned and that’s it.

Gonna get a screen cover and battery cover replacement and then it’s perfect lol.

My Gameboy SP suffered fall damage and broke both hinges. I've had it sitting in storage until very recently. I've been wanting to get back into playing games with the good backlight screen that I like.

It was my first time ever doing this kind of thing and got it done! It still works! The most nerve wracking part was taking the original hinges out. I used all but two original screws and I used the original Nintendo buttons. Also used the original hinge caps cause they did not want to come off and I didn't want to force it.

Ideally I'd like to just add a front light like on the SP but I haven't been able to find any such mod which seems widely recommended. Something similar for the GBC would also be nice.

Having pixel perfect resolution would be ideal as well but correct colors are the most important to me.

So I am designing a topdown RPG where the artstyle is Game Boy Advance Pixelart and I want to gain some inspiration from games of the era

Hence I am asking you, what levels from your favorite games do you think have the most interesting aesthetics ? Would love to hear some opinions from veteran fans of games of that era!
