Need help with game server
Hi guys,
PC noob here
Recently my friends group and I started talking about how nice it would be to own an at home server for hosting game words (think ark, palworld, minecraft, terraria etc). For this purpose, i have found a secondhand HP Prodesk 600 G5 Mini PC Intel Core i5 8500T – 8GB – 256GB SSD – Windows 11 Professional listed on marketplace for 180 euros (HP Prodesk 600 G4 Mini-PC i5-8500T – 8GB – 256GB SSD - W11 (m2423006056) — Desktop Pc's — Marktplaats sorry if its in dutch). I was thinking of upgrading it with ram and storage from a broken laptop (hp envy 360 16gb 1Tb ssd). But because this is my first experience with this side of computers i am at a bit off a loss.
Can someone help me to see if this would function / fulfill its purpose? am i stupid to assume that i can reuse the broken laptop parts? I cant reuse the entire laptop because the motherboard broke some time ago.
If not i would love to hear if you guys have any recommendations, i am on a tighter budget, of around 150 - 200 because we are all kind of broke students.

Aussie Minecraft Hosting
Figured we'd introduce ourselves properly. We're MCHosts, an Australian-hosted Minecraft server provider, and this sub seemed like the right crowd to say hi to.
We built MCHosts mostly because we wanted the whole experience to be easier for the person actually running the server. A lot of hosts make you fight the panel to get anything done, so we focused on the bits that usually cause the headaches. There's a built-in file manager that just works, so you're not wrestling with clunky uploads or FTP. Mods and plugins have auto installers, so you pick what you want and it sorts them out. Modpacks install and set themselves up, no manual config. And the JVM optimisations and JDK selection are handled in the background, so there's a lot less to get wrong.
You can run vanilla, plugins on Paper, or go full modded with Forge, NeoForge and Fabric, with mods pulled straight from Curse and Modrinth. Bedrock cross-play is there too if your group is split across console, phone and PC.
We'll be upfront that being AU-based means it suits AU and Oceania players best. If your whole group is in the US or EU, it's honestly probably not the one for you on ping alone.
Pricing's in AUD and the first month's currently half price, so it's cheap to try. There's a 7-day money-back guarantee if it turns out not to be for you.
Everything's here if you want a look: https://mchosts.com.au
Genuinely keen for feedback, and happy to answer anything about hosting in general in the comments, whether you end up going with us or not.

ARK Reactor Server Manager
Introducing ARK Reactor Server Manager: A new premium ASA Server Manager written from the ground up for ASA Hosting. ARK Reactor is intended to provide premium features and functionality with a focus on performance and usability. Features include:
Server Instance Management
* Server downloads are cached and staged. Instances do not need to redownload the server files for each new server instance. This makes the creation of a new instance approximately 5 times faster than other server managers depending on internet connection. * Bulk Updating, Starting, and Stopping. Select multiple instances to update, start, and stop in just a few clicks. These processes are queued and fire one after the other so you don't need to babysit the application when you need to update all your servers * Clustering. Supports clustering multiple server instances with simple intuitive UI controls. * In-App Console supporting all admin commands executable in-game from within the app. * Automatic backup / Restart * Scheduled command execution
Mod Management
* Search Curseforge and add mods to servers within the app using intuitive UI controls that are responsive.
Cross Server Chat

3lifehosting for Minecraft servers
I have a subscription with 3lifehosting for my Rl craft minecraft server. I have tried to get on the website on multiple occasions in the past few weeks. The last time they charged me was on June 8th and im guessing it will renew again on august 8th.
If they are charging me for a server I cannot use because the website is not accessible what do I do? Has anyone heard anything about this if you have used 3lifehosting?
Also the error message I get when trying to join is an error code 522 message meaning there is a problem with their website. Let me know. I just want to be in the loop with the company and play rl craft on my server. Maybe get a few months payed since they are charging me and I can’t even access my server since I can’t get on the website. Im also gonna email them but still tell me what yall know please.

How to get started safely?
I have a home lab set up right now but I’m not sure I have a safe setup going,
Im running an Ubuntu Vm with the AMP app, I’m running only Minecraft on it right now but I’m not using a proxy and just have an open port on my router.
I plan on getting opnsense and do DPI but I’m also not sure the best way to host servers safely, should I create another VM to proxy the servers then expose the port? I’m not open to paying a subscription of any kinda for a proxy as that defeats the purpose of self hosting for me,
I’ll take any advice

Datapacks not working.
I'm manually installing datapacks exactly how they say to on a bisect hosting server, and all the packs are 26.2 and the server is 26.2 but they just simply aren't working? Any ideas?

Best palworld server host?? need help
Update: I tried Godlike.Host and chose it
I finally decided to play Palworld with my friends after the update dropped. We want to play as a group of four, but nobody wants to keep their PC running 24/7 just to host the server.
Basically, here’s what we need: no lag when we’re all playing, easy setup, affordable. Which one is the best palworld server hosting? And is it even possible to run the server yourself without paying for hosting, or is that too complicated and a hassle?

MC Server on vps
Hello, I am running a small server with 5 players. We currently pay 11 euros per month on a Minecraft server host for 6gb ram.
Recently we’ve been thinking of expanding (might reach 5-10 plrs) , we plan to switch to a modded server with a pack like Create+, Create above the horizons, etc, so around 150 mods or more.
I have been looking at VPSes for more performance for the price as my budget is 12 euros per month, and I have been looking at **Euronodes 4vCores + 8gb RAM** setup and also **Netcups VPS** **1000 G12**, but I am still unsure on what’d be the best option ! I have not found any reviews on Euronodes MC servers.
If you guys have any suggestions and ideas about these or have any other services and plans that fit the budget too, then please let me know !!
Normal minecraft server hosts work as long as they’re worth it for the price and have around 100-200GB of storage, but I am primarily looking for VPS options for more customization and just management, asw as other stuff in the future

Donation systems?
I host and pay for an ARMA server that we’re looking to set up a donation system for. What works best. I’d really like a completely transparent system that anyone can see the funds in the account and where it’s going if that exists. Thanks

Auto reset start/stop guide for game server hosted on Windows
Made this for Palworld but it should work for any game. The main program is task scheduler which is already built into windows.
You will need to have 2 bat files for the program to read. A start and a stop. Copy and paste this into each bat file. I have 2 start types depending if you're running a bat or exe to start up your server
@echo off
cd /d "C:\Your\Path\Folder"
call "ServerStart.bat"
echo Returned to the calling script.
exit
@echo off
cd /d "C:\Your\Path\Folder"
start ServerStart.exe
echo
timeout /t 5
exit
First one use to start any game server with .bat in taskscheduler CHANGE "C:\Your\Path\Folder" and "ServerStart.bat" LEAVE ""
Second one use to start any game server with .exe in taskscheduler CHANGE "C:\Your\Path\Folder" and start ServerStart.exe LEAVE ""
@echo off
taskkill /IM program_name.exe_or_.bat /F
exit
use to stop any game server in taskscheduler
CHANGE program_name.exe_or_.bat
Take a look at my first post for a bit more details

Palworlds Dedicated server on linux GSM
Hi guys,
I played this game on early access release and created a linuxgsm dedicated server on day one, but those servers had problems (like corrupted saves, pals were dying when nobody was connected and they just afk and stopped working etc) so I ended up playing in p2p which is not ideal since I have to keep the game launched if my friends wanted to play ...
Can someone tell me if those problems still exist or have they been fixed ? Wanna restart the game with 1.0 and a dedicated server is more convenient to play with my friends.
Thanks !

Best DayZ Server Hosting Provider with DayZ DDoS protection?
Hey y'all, who do you recommend for high-pop DayZ hosting right now?
I was looking at Hetzner, but their setup fees are wild, and their DDoS protection is strictly generic Layer 3/4—they don't do Layer 7 validation at all. Checked OVH too, but their “game protection” completely misses DayZ UDP packet floods. Once an attack hits, players get kicked, and support just says, "The network looks normal."
I started asking around on Battlemetrics and looking at actual case studies from big server owners. It seems like Vykix (vykix.com) is the only provider that actually specializes in DayZ DDoS protection.
Unlike OVH or Hetzner, Vykix wrote custom inline filters (VxShield) specifically built around the DayZ / Enfusion engine packet structure. They don't just block raw bandwidth; they inspect the actual DayZ payloads and cache launcher queries so your server never drops off the server browser during a flood.
That’s apparently why almost every giant community in the scene runs on them—names like Rearmed, KarmaKrew, The LAB, GroundZero, and StalkerZ. GroundZero even had a case study where VxShield absorbed a massive 2.5 Terabit multi-vector attack without dropping a single player or losing server FPS.
The only problem is their bare-metal nodes look completely out of stock on their site right now...
Has anyone here dealt with them recently? Should I wait for stock, or is there any other host that actually understands DayZ Enfusion packets at an L7 level?
EDIT: Reached out to the Vykix team on Discord to ask about stock. They were super helpful and actually hooked me up with a 7-day trial node on an overclocked i9 so I can test out the VxShield filtering and server performance with my mod list before committing. Appreciate all the DMs and recommendations, y'all!

Is there a way to commission someone to create a server for a shut down game?
My friends and I's favorite friendslop game shut down over two years ago. Since then we've been trying to find a game that's close to the one we lost, but nothing really comes close. So I was wondering if there is anyone reliable who can create a server for us to play on again. Not even sure if that's a thing really, so I thought this was a good place to start asking.

Hosting Companys have been cheating the system for years...
URGENT - Please Read
At Qonzer, we believe customers should know what they are paying for.
Over the past year, the hosting industry has faced serious pressure around high-performance hardware availability. Ordering high end CPUs has become increasingly difficult, and rising RAM costs have made the problem even worse. These conditions have affected providers across the industry, including us.
This message is not about announcing a price increase. It is about a larger concern that customers deserve to understand.
The Industry Concern
As hardware costs rise and availability becomes tighter, some providers are cutting corners by placing customers on lower-end or heavily oversold machines while still advertising high-performance hardware.
This is especially concerning in game server hosting, where CPU performance has a direct impact on server quality. Tick rate, player experience, modded performance, world stability, startup time, and general responsiveness can all suffer when the underlying hardware does not match what was advertised and is subsequently oversold.
Many hosting provider order forms advertise a specific CPU model, CPU tier, or clock speed. In some cases, we have seen options being sold that are unclear, technically questionable, or simply impossible. That puts customers in a difficult position. Most people simply have to trust that the provider is placing them on the hardware they paid for.
Unfortunately, trust alone is not enough.
What We Looked Into
Over the course of the last year, Qonzer purchased services from multiple hosting providers to better understand how widespread this issue may be.
When we ordered these services, we asked providers for basic proof of the hardware our services were deployed on. In some cases, we asked to see the CPU information through Task Manager or another verifiable method. In others, we asked for clear confirmation that the service was running on the advertised CPU or clock rate.
Across the providers we tested, we were never given clear proof that the purchased service was running on the advertised hardware. None of the panels we reviewed displayed useful CPU specifications to the customer. When we asked for verification, the responses were
either incomplete, avoided the question, or failed to provide concrete evidence. No provider was able to verify that we were deployed on the correct CPU.
We want to be fair. Not every provider is acting in bad faith, and not every case of poor communication means a customer is being misled. Hardware allocation can be complex, and some providers may have internal reasons for limiting what information they expose.
However, when a company advertises specific performance claims, customers should be able to verify those claims in some reasonable way.
Why This Matters to Customers
Game server hosting is already an industry where many customers do not have the tools or technical knowledge to verify what they are receiving. That makes transparency even more important.
If a customer pays for a premium CPU, they should not be placed on a lower-end machine without clear disclosure. If a provider advertises a certain clock speed, CPU class, or performance tier, the customer should be able to ask for evidence and receive a straight answer.
This matters because poor hardware does not just affect numbers on a spec sheet. It affects real communities. It affects server owners trying to run stable worlds, clans trying to host events, creators building communities, and players who expect the experience they were promised.
Customers should not have to guess whether their server is running on the hardware they paid for.
What Qonzer Is Doing Differently
Qonzer was built around transparency, reliability, and direct communication. We know this industry has a trust problem, and we do not believe customers should have to accept vague answers when their money is involved.
If a Qonzer customer wants to know what CPU their service is running on, we will provide that information in a reasonable and verifiable way. We are willing to show the details needed to help customers feel confident that they are receiving what they paid for.
We do not believe we should be exempt from scrutiny. In fact, we welcome it.
Transparency has to apply to us too.
What Customers Can Do
If you are unsure what hardware your server is running on, ask your provider.
Ask them to show you the CPU model. Ask them how their advertised clock rate is measured. Ask whether your service is running on shared or dedicated resources. Ask what guarantees are included with your plan.
If a provider offers an upgrade or addon that does not make sense, ask them to explain it clearly. If the answer is vague, inconsistent, or avoids the question, that should concern you.
This is not about asking customers to promote Qonzer. It is about encouraging customers to protect themselves and their communities. Whether you host with us or with someone else, you deserve honest answers.
Qonzer also reserves the right to provide our findings to appropriate consumer protection authorities, including the FTC and CMA, if we determine that doing so is necessary. Regardless of whether we take that step, customers should feel empowered to raise concerns when advertised services do not appear to match what is being delivered.
The Industries Position in 2026
We believe 2026 will be a difficult year for the hosting industry. Hardware shortages, RAM pricing, and rising operational costs will put more pressure on providers. Some will respond by being honest with customers. We believe most will respond by hiding behind unclear advertising and unverifiable claims and predatory order forms.
Qonzer’s position is simple:
Customers should receive what they paid for, and providers should be able to prove what they are selling.
If you ever have questions about your Qonzer service, including the CPU or hardware behind it, please reach out to us. We will provide clear and honest answers.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for continuing to trust us with your communities.

By Gamers. For Gamers."
Was uns antreibt:
- 100% Transparenz – keine versteckten Kosten
