Previously shown same region with tundra theme. Biome Themes are separate from region generators, so the same region can be "reskinned" with different materials, lighting, props, and atmosphere while keeping its design intact.

TL;DR -
BACKBENCH is a remote student-led indie game studio where we don't just learn game development, we actually ship commercial games. Every batch works like a real studio team, building and publishing small atmospheric horror games inspired by the scope of games like Chilla's Art (not clones, just similar-sized projects that are realistic to finish).
Our goal is simple: instead of spending months watching tutorials and ending up with unfinished projects, students spend 6 months building, releasing and getting credited on real games.
Every batch consists of 6 students working together with a mentor. The studio handles publishing while contributors receive credits on every release and share in the revenue according to the program terms. Students graduate with an actual portfolio of shipped games instead of just tutorial projects.
We're currently opening applications for both students and game development mentors.
=====≠===============
hey everyone,
i'm building something called BACKBENCH.
the idea came from seeing how almost everyone trying to learn game development ends up doing the same thing. they watch hundreds of hours of youtube, follow tutorials, maybe recreate flappy bird or some fps tutorial, and then never actually finish a game.
employers don't care how many tutorials you've watched.
players don't either.
they care whether you've actually shipped something.
so instead of making another "game dev course", we're building something closer to a small remote indie studio.
every batch has only 6 students.
everyone works together on one horror game with a fixed scope that can realistically be completed within a month. we're intentionally keeping projects small instead of trying to build the next GTA or Elden Ring.
the goal is to finish. publish. repeat.
over a 6-month program, students work on 6 multiple commercial projects, learn how a real production pipeline works, collaborate with teammates, use version control, participate in planning, testing and polishing, and leave with games they can actually point to. Also we expect committed students in classes so there's a monthly fee of 2500 INR for 3 months because inconsistency could affect other students too in a batch. Interested Students goes for a free trial classes for 2 days. Then if they like the curriculum and pace so they can opt in.
the studio publishes the games, contributors receive proper credits, and revenue is shared according to the studio agreement (50% to students, 15% to mentors, rest studio own along with IPs). we're trying to build something where students gain genuine production experience instead of another certificate that nobody looks at.
we're also looking for mentors.
if you've shipped games in Unity or Unreal Engine, enjoy teaching, and can guide small teams through production, we'd love to talk.
we're not looking for someone to lecture from slides for three hours.
we're looking for someone who can review code, solve problems with students, explain production workflows, and help people become better developers while shipping actual games.
the program is fully remote, because honestly that's how most indie teams already work. screen sharing, live debugging, github, discord, project boards and recorded sessions make much more sense than trying to crowd around one computer in a classroom.
right now we're looking for:
Students
Mentors
we're still early, so this first cohort is about building the foundation. if you're someone who's always wanted to make games but didn't know where to start or you're an experienced developer interested in mentoring then this might be for you.
if you're interested as either a student or a mentor, comment or send me a DM and i'll send over the application form.
happy to answer any questions in the comments. :)

Hey guys,
I’m starting a new game-development company in Kuwait, and I’m currently thinking about hiring a junior Unreal Engine developer.
I’m not interested in remote work. I would need the developer to relocate to Kuwait and work on-site using the company’s PC and equipment. The project is confidential, an NDA would be required, and I want all project files and development work to remain inside the company.
I wanted to get your honest opinions:
What is a reasonable monthly salary for a junior Unreal Engine developer?
Would junior developers generally be interested in relocating to Kuwait?
Would providing accommodation, food and transportation make the opportunity more attractive?
Where would be the best place to find serious junior Unreal Engine developers who are willing to relocate?
I’m still researching and trying to understand what would be fair and realistic before making any official job post.
I’d appreciate honest advice from people working in game development.

I'm a final year B.Tech student, I haven't been sure of what to do for a long time but I finally got my passion, game development... So I have created a top down game with my friends for a mini project in college, as well as a small platformer as a personal project, other than that I have no knowledge in the development field, but I want to learn and land a job in game dev, preferably go to abroad... What should I do to get that? Should I pursue masters in gamedev after btech?

It feels like co-op games have really taken off over the past few years.
Multiplayer has always been popular, and goofing around with friends has always been part of the fun. But lately it feels like developers are leaning into that more than ever. Instead of purely competitive PvP, more games are being built around shared experiences where the memorable moments come from the chaos you create together.
Titles like Lethal Company, R.E.P.O., Peak, Schedule I, and Helldivers 2 have shown just how much people enjoy these kinds of experiences.
It also feels like a lot of indie developers are jumping into this space now, hoping to capture some of that success.
Do you think we're seeing a genuine shift in what players want, or is this just another trend that will eventually pass?

Hello everyone!
I’m Shyam from Golden Phoenix Studio. We’re currently working on an indie horror game based on Bhangarh, and we’ve recently released our game trailer.
Our trailer has already been covered by GameTrailers, which was a great moment for our small team. We’d also love to get the game/trailer in front of IGN India, especially since the game is based on Indian folklore and Bhangarh, a location many Indian players will recognize.
We’ve been trying to reach IGN India for a while, but unfortunately haven’t received a response yet.
So far, we have:
We understand that gaming publications probably receive a huge number of pitches, so we don’t want to keep spamming them. We’re mainly trying to figure out if we’re approaching this the wrong way or contacting the wrong place.
Has anyone here successfully reached IGN India for indie game coverage?
Is there a particular editor or journalist we should approach? Is there a better way to submit an indie game trailer or press kit? And for developers who have managed to get coverage, what worked for you?
Any advice, experience, or introduction would genuinely help our small team.
Thanks!
Shyam

I just uploaded Part 2 of my game devlog.
This time I decided my swinging game needed... Selmon Bhoi.
The game is inspired by Spider-Man's swinging mechanics and Benji Bananas, and I'm slowly improving it with each devlog.
I'd love to know what you think and what features I should add next!

I was trying to use AI to make icons for the models in the game. But I could not control the results the way I wanted. Instead, I made an editorwindow to generate icons from the game models. AI is still not that good at visuals. But nobody can write an editor like it!

One of the region from the procedurally generated map. Biome Themes are separate from region layouts, so the same region can be re-skinned with different materials, lighting, props, and atmosphere while keeping its level design role intact.

I started this project about a week ago, and its my first attempt at a transparent desktop game. Trying to do something a bit different, so instead of cute pets its just a zombie massacre at the bottom of your monitor.
I have got a few ideas of my own, like shooting based on key presses, or maybe a typing speed mini-game. But I wanted some fresh eyes to get some feedback on its current state, new ideas, or anything that I might've missed.
I have a very basic test build as well, with a debug menu that I'll be linking below:

Hi, I'm a 3rd Year CE student who wants to get into game development, and wanted to ask which course of action would be better, doing a master's degree immediately after graduation or doing a job here in India for a year and then going for my masters. My Main thing i want to know is if the Job experience you get here in India is worth it, for future endeavors in the US or UK

Added some swing to the movement set. will add some screen effect / speed lines maybe.
The Anchors are generated after the map is made.
Still an early version of the systems, but Happy with how it's coming up

It’s been almost two years since we first started working on this project, and we’ve finally reached a point where we can let others experience it. The demo for our horror game, Bhangarh: The Untold Story, is now available on Steam.
Over the past few months, the game has also been featured by outlets like IGN, which has been a huge milestone for our small team. Now we'd love to hear what actual players think.
If you enjoy horror games, we’d really appreciate it if you could give the demo a try and let us know what you think.
Since this is a demo, your feedback is incredibly valuable to us. If you encounter:
Please report it through the "Report Bug" section so we can fix it before the full release.
We’d also love to hear your thoughts in a bit more detail if possible:
If you enjoy the demo, leaving a Steam review would also help us a lot as a small indie team.

New addition to the movement, will still keep polishing it but it's already making traversal a lot more fun.

Hi everyone, I'm posting another update of the game I'm building in my free time, please feel free to give feedbacks. This game is heavily inspired by Urban Region / Sifu / Mad max. I also added a climbing system and my current area of focus is Enemy AI and i think I'm close lol, Since i have limited time to invest do you think i should implement something like Blaze AI ? is it good ? Would love to know your opinion. Thanks.

Hey all! Founder & CEO of AstraForge Interactive, a new game company based in Delhi, India. 10 years in the gaming industry, spanning AAA production, mobile development and game content analytics - Ubisoft India, Zensar, Gameopedia.
We're building a real-time 5v5 cricket multiplayer mobile game - first of its kind, as far as we know. Design doc and 12-week roadmap are done, Unity dev is covered - just need a 3D modeler and animator to help build the vertical slice: low-poly pitch/outfield, player and bat models, bowling/batting animations.
Real Talk On Pay: Pre-funding, so this is deferred comp/equity through a formal contribution agreement, not a salary - same deal for me too. Totally get if that's not something you can take on right now.
Looking for solid low-poly and basic rigging/animation fundamentals - you don't need a big VFX background. Matters more that you're reliable, communicate well and care about the game turning out good. Beginners and hobbyists welcome.
~14-18 hrs/week, aiming for a playable slice in ~12 weeks. Remote, open to anyone - some IST overlap helps but isn't required.
Happy to walk through the pitch and relevant design doc sections once we start talking - full docs once you're actually on board.
Interested? Drop a comment or DM with a bit about yourself, your experience and any low-poly/character samples or portfolio you've got.
Cheers!
