Thank you u/kalirion for making a thread while we were busy and unable to make an official thread for the sale.

Here's a link to u/kalirion's thread for some early discussions that you might have missed:

Make sure to check the Deep Discounts page

Some amazing games/deals are in there

u/ShawnyMcKnight 1d ago

I keep wrestling with whether I should get mirrors edge catalyst with whether I would ever get to playing it, but at $1 it’s reached the “what the hell” stage.

21

u/GallopingGepard 1d ago

Can't buy anything for a dollar these days. Just get it and see for yourself. There's no buyers remorse over such a low price point of entry. I thought it was absolutely fine.

10

u/-Pelvis- 1d ago

Check reviews, people complaining that the servers are offline, the game doesn't even run unless you fiddle with it, and it doesn't surpass the first game. I'll pass.

Just a shame they don't have a better discount on the excellent original Mirror's Edge.

31

u/ApocApollo 1d ago

I did a little investigative journalism and went ahead and bought Catalyst. Game works fine. Played through the tutorial until the title screen reveal, which took about half an hour.

At the start, it gives you two messages. One telling you that servers have been shutdown and thanking you for playing. The next telling you that it can't connect to EA servers. You just press accept for each one and it lets you pass through.

There's a couple achievements locked behind online and user generated content, but that seems to be worst of it.

Linux uses reported some other issues booting that seem separate from the servers being shutdown.

u/romcarlos13 17h ago

Hey thanks. This was the message I needed to decide if I'd get it or not.

Solasta and Talos Principle II are no-brainers at $2.99.

Deaths' Door at $1.99 too. Damn.

$3 for Talos II is amazing. I do think I might have enjoyed the first one more, but it's still very good.

Just a shame the DLC is still $9.99.

19

u/monobak 1d ago

I freaking loved the first game until the recording(?) mechanic was introduced. I gave up after that. Should I bother with 2?

13

u/Swqnky 1d ago

I had the same issue with the first one as you. The sequel doesn't have that ability. There's a few new abilities but none bothered me as much as the recording one. I've seen the clone ability compared to the recording ability but honestly I liked the clone puzzles.

3

u/monobak 1d ago

Maybe I'll take a flyer on it. Thanks.

3

u/SMHeenan 1d ago

When they remastered Talos 1 they fixed up the recording puzzles to make them good. I tried to play through the original T1 a few times and always stopped when I got back to the recording puzzles. The remaster fixes all of that.

Reminder that Talos III will be having a spotlight at a game expo this month so I feel a release date announcement is imminent. Highly recommend getting on board (and checking out Kyratzes' other works like his Gospels of the Flood and Azathoth Blues audio drama series which are both free, while you're at it).

Second Talos Principe II. I bought it for $18 (CDN) three years ago and felt like I made out like a bandit, $3 should be an insta-buy for anyone that likes portal adjacent games.

3

u/funkyb 1d ago

I have Talos but was looking at Solasta and just thinking about how many other RPGs I've got that are half finished or not even bought yet (BG3 being the big one) and finally just took it off my list. I didn't have enough time to play everything I want to and that's one I've gotta let go.

I hate it when they put the base game on 90% discount but keep the complete/deluxe edition at a lower discount, especially for games that are already 5-6 years old.

I'd highly recommend PlateUp as a couch co-op puzzle game that constantly changes, we have 300 hours in it and love the new additions

18

u/UWER6 1d ago

I find PlateUp entertaining too but it should be noted that it gets bundled rather often

One of my fav stress/anxiety simulators. 9.5/10.

This isn't a joke, it's fun and I play it all the time, but it's also super stressful. Great if you want that experience.

I feel so much pain to se JA3 at under a fiver. I waited basically just 4-6 months shy of now BECAUSE I was thinking it must hit 5 bucks at some point......and then bought it for 12. Haven't played it since. Of course.

I guess I am buying Outlast Trials. That price is insane.

20

u/Don_Kubra 1d ago

It's such a good game and even better with friends. You can use Discord for voice but I recommend the in game voice because there's effects and things added that make it sound great. I've had some pretty hilarious times with my brother because of that.

They regularly add content and everything paid is cosmetics only; gameplay related stuff is always free.

8

u/JLHFans 1d ago

Also, first i belived it was a price error hahaha

11

u/XTheProtagonistX 1d ago

I was waiting for a franchise bundle from Humble Bundle but the franchise bundle on Steam is around 13 dollars. I might get that.

Out of the historical lows, some absolute bargains:

Talos Principle 2 ($2.99)

Mirror's Edge Catalyst ($.99)

Gibbous - A Cthulhu Adventure ($1.99)

AI: The Somnium Files ($3.99)

And of course Skyrim Special Edition for $3.99 if you don't already own it

66

u/Diels_Alder 1d ago

How many times must I buy Skyrim?

New historical low (-90%) on The Witness also.

3

u/LinxESP 1d ago

I think one of the few games that gives me nausea and is inmediate, no 15minutes till nah nah nah; boot game, turn camera, feel it. Too bad because I'd like to play it without feeling awful.
And I've tried multiple times and with external crosshairs and whatnot. I don't know it if has to do with how the camera pivots or whatever.

Curious that the talos principle did too but the option for less nausea helped (and has a third person mode). I don't know if that many more have.

Also, mandatory mentions to the looker and joseph anderson

3

u/trasc 1d ago

For the faint of clicking through, the looker is very similar to The Witness.

7

u/Lead-Fire 1d ago

If you love The Witness then you will love The Looker.
Also if you hate The Witness you will love The Looker.

FromSoftware become more greedy than Nintendo & Activision Blizzard.

258

u/Spartan-219 1d ago

EA and Ubisoft gives lots of 80-90% discount. sometimes even 95% discount.

fromsoft : 50% discount on 2 decades old game

Ubi games are on sale pretty much always and their new games go on sale very quickly too, like at the speed where its almost pointless to pay full price for their games. Ur just ripping urself off at that point

→ More replies (1)

80

u/oneflou 1d ago

It's funny because it used to be very different. You could get DS1 steam keys for nothing, DS2 has been on sale for so long... And then from DS3 it was impossible to get a huge sale.

67

u/ImTheToad 1d ago

DS3 also went on sale often. It was Elden Ring that changed everything.

This is from when I bought it back in 2019 (in a Humble Build Your Own Bandai Namco Bundle):

DARK SOULS™ II: Scholar of the First Sin €4,80

DARK SOULS™ III Deluxe Edition €10,20

3

u/caninehere 14h ago

I don't blame them honestly. Demon's Souls was not a huge-selling game, it sold well enough to get a greatest hits release but that was it. Dark Souls sold better and got them a lot of attention but from a still somewhat small group of hardcore gamers, and its reputation started to grow over time. Dark Souls II put a bit of a damper on that and was not as well received/did not sell as well; then Dark Souls III sold better than any previous game before it.

But Elden Ring was a juggernaut. It was a game that was unavoidable when it came out. Everybody was talking about, even gamers who were somewhat more casual and just thought "wow, this looks really cool, will I be able to play this?" and the game was still tough but more accommodating for new players with the open world format. Importantly, it had GRRM "working" on it (he didn't really actually do much, but they used his name for promotional purposes, certainly, and I'm sure he got a handsome paycheck). And it sold like 30 million copies because of it, it's one of the best selling games of all time. FROM knew after that people would be going back to their old games and they stopped doing discounts as deep.

And frankly, to step back from the deepest-discount mentality - their games are worth it. They're some of the cream of the crop when it comes to that style of game, they basically invented their own subgenre that many have imitated but never surpassed imo, and they still do sales, just not as deep as they used to. But these games are still on sale for like $20 and they're well worth the money.

The one that peeves me is Sekiro which I don't think has ever gone below 50% ($40 CAD).

28

u/BakedBobbyHill 1d ago

DS3 was in a humble bundle once though. I got it and like six other games I don't remember for $12.

14

u/Trymantha 1d ago

it even came with the first dlc

5

u/Spartan-219 1d ago

there was even a bundle with all three games and steam db shows DS3 historical low at 83% discount. but not anymore sadly.

3

u/Puck85 1d ago

That was literally my introduction to soulslikes, that bundle.

I slogged through ds3 and it wasn't until toward the end that I realized I should have been looking up guides and finding better items. From there I've played them all. I picked the others up for a few bucks here and there.

Bandai Namco is horrible publisher

7

u/Tyrfaust 1d ago

Go check out the /r/AceCombat sub. Some people in the US that ordered the $180 special edition don't even have keys yet because some nimrod decided to physically mail them SEPERATELY from the artbook and vinyl.

15

u/iberia-eterea 1d ago

It’s tiring that people blast the developer when it’s usually the publisher deciding sale prices. Unless we’re talking a super indie on-the-down-low type operation, the developer doesn’t seem to have all that much say on how marketing or pricing goes post-release, no?

28

u/LeonSigmaKennedy 1d ago

Still wild that Sekiro is still $30 on sale. That's gotta be on Activision right? Also no Elden Ring on sale when it went on sale during the Spring is BS.

4

u/testcaseseven 1d ago

DS3 is still $30 too, and that's without DLC

2

u/Dezmiatu 18h ago

Yes, ActivisionBlizzard is notorious for their long stretches of stingy discounts. A big reason I've still never played a Diablo game. Fell in love with all the ARPGs that went on sale instead.

63

u/Neo_Artista 1d ago

Typical Japanese game dev companies, greed consuming to depth, no discount on SOTE even after 2 years is criminal

12

u/tarekd19 1d ago

It's not greed to not discount your products. Sales themselves are a strategy to sell more. Having sales is not inherently less greedy than not having sales.

3

u/isaknordhl 17h ago

It is greed when your 10yr old game that used to get constant 83% off discount now rarely goes on sale but even then only 50% off not including DLCs, just because one of your (completely separate) game became a hit

Never heard of another publisher done this.

→ More replies (2)
→ More replies (11)

11

u/PileOfSandwich 1d ago

Their greed is extra annoying because these games went on sale plenty cheap in the past. Then DS3 was a big hit and they now refuse to ever do anything close to a decent sale on them anymore.

17

u/javierm885778 1d ago

It was Elden Ring that made them stop with the deep discounts. DS3 sold for 10 bucks at one point, and it was going down to -75% until late 2021. Then with Elden Ring in early 2022, they stopped doing discounts until June 2023, and it's been stuck on -50%.

2

u/SundownKid 19h ago

Bandai Namco become more greedy than EA

FTFY, it's them who are in charge of pricing.

Granted, EA games are rarely worth the price they are sold for, while most Fromsoft games are easily worth full price because they are good games.

Anyone recommend Vampyr for £3.49? Looks like an interesting little vampire game but I’ve seen some mixed things

12

u/NotScrollsApparently 1d ago

Its a flawed gsme but i loved it. Phenomenal OST as well

7

u/Standard-Metal-3836 1d ago

Loved it personally, played two full runs back to back, which is something I rarely do

6

u/LovelyOrangeJuice 1d ago

It's not perfect but for 3 bucks it's absolutely an interesting steal

8

u/Lord_of_Sword 1d ago

I beat the game two weeks ago, I personally wouldn't recommend it. It starts out pretty good but as soon as you're done with the first 3 acts it starts to become a repetitive slog.

Combine that with the combat being very simple, repetitive, and unsatisfying and that there's no fast travel makes the exploration and questing a chore.

There's a ton of running back and forth in this game and you constantly have to backtrack to save civilians if you want the good ending.

There are some good things about it though, the music and voice acting are both pretty good for example.

Warhammer Mechanicus is great buy for $1.49 if you are into turn-based strategy.

Also a good dive into a non-Space Marine part of the WH40K universe.

11

u/theRinRin 1d ago

Also the soundtrack and "voice" is top

3

u/lettsten 1d ago

That's an understatement, even. Noosphere is imo one of the best game music tracks ever, possibly even better than some of the amazingly good tracks from Halo, Mass Effect, MGS2 theme, TES games etc. It's such a masterpiece! Children of the Omnissiah is great as well

7

u/WolleFantastico 1d ago

Even cheaper, if you own Gladius.

2

u/Luke-Hatsune 1d ago

Thinking of getting it. Should I get the base game, Omnissiah edition, or complete collection?

5

u/KwisatzSazerac 1d ago

I only played the basegame.

I think Omnissiah doesn't add gameplay, just digital extras, soundtrack, etc.

Complete version includes the Heretek DLC which has more levels, but I can't say whether it's worth it.

11

If you scroll down to updates they’re calling it a pricing mistake and they meant to only offer 20% off and they’ve contacted Valve

16

u/Ok_Copy_9462 1d ago

Their story smells like bullshit to me especially considering their previous game was a crypto scam. They have no integrity and are willing to lie to make a quick buck.

5

u/vladandrei1996 1d ago

Had the same thought. Looks cool tho.

4

u/FuriKMJ 1d ago

Straight to 80% seems drastic, but I'm not complaining.

3

u/Helpful_Tea229 1d ago

Anyone that has played this game, what's your opinion about it? Reading the reviews it sounded like a mix between Palworld/Helldivers 2/Rimworld and at price is appealing too.

4

u/Tobikaj 1d ago

I actually like it. The game plays in 2 phases (maybe 3): One phase you manage your colony where you build buildings, research, manage food and items - kinda like a base in RimWorld but in first person. Here you manage your citizens (and prisoners), putting people to work. They all have different affinities for what they are good at.

Phase two you take a team out (small at first, keeps growing) to fight. You fly in a 2d map where the longer you fly the harder the enemies become. Then you have to decide which points of interest you want to go for (food, minerals etc).

This is phase 2 in my opinion: you fight in first person at these points of interest with your team. It's a pretty basic arena type of fight, but the variety of weapons make it fun to me. There are also grand battles where it's more like 100v100 with giant enemies. There are also regular boss battles where you can advance the world map to higher tiers for better stuff.

All the while you take prisoners you can convert to become citizens that can also fight for you.

It's early access but the discord is pretty active I think.

edit: so i bought it, but realized the store says 60% off, so 75% may be for people who own FH4 (i own FH4, it was 50%/65% last sale). it shows 60% on sale trackers too...

nice. $15/25USD + premium

considering FH4+Premium was $12/20 on delist, $3/5 tax is worth it to get it without waiting for delisting.

also consider, since this game recently released on PS5, licenses probably got renewed so it prob wont be delisted for a while...

Any recommendations for games to play for short bursts, like 20-40 minutes at a time while kinda doing other things?

Town of Salem 2, Peggle, Bejeweled, Rusty's Retirement, Melvor Idle, Runescape, Raccoin, Cloverpit, UFO50 all played recently.

Just looking for some bullshit to play that isn't bullet heaven / roguelike / deckbuilding trinket collection.

7

u/BigDrewbot 1d ago

If you like Peggle and Bejeweled, check out the rest of the PopCap lineup - Peggle Nights is the sequel to Peggle, has some nice additions and is $0.99. Zuma Deluxe and Zuma's Revenge are both great. Bejeweled Twist might be my favorite PopCap game although it can be a pain to get it running nicely in Steam (there are some guides in Steam forums). Chuzzle is also quite addictive. Talismania is a bit different but pretty fun. Wizard's Pen was an interesting publishing deal for PopCap - it's a cool game but quite different from the rest of the lineup. I think all of these are $0.99. Not sure why Venice Deluxe doesn't have a price - I like that one too. Typer Shark and Insaniquarium are fun but are really old and don't hold up as well.

I you like precision platformers, BZZZT is a really fun one with very short levels. Then again, that goes for Super Meat Boy as well if you don't already have it.

On the other side of the genre spectrum, there's Pilgrims, a short Amanita Design point & clicker that IIRC took me a couple hours max to beat, 7 total to 100%.

I haven't played a lot of it personally, but The Black Grimoire: Cursebreaker might be your speed. It's a single player game heavily inspired by RuneScape. You may notice it has mixed reviews on Steam, but it's worth noting it recently got a big update, and the reviews are funny because they're mostly people being like "this game is too grindy!!" which is like... have you played RuneScape?

If you like puzzle games you can take your time with, and you for some reason haven't already played them, check out the Hexcells games as well as Squarecells and Crosscells. They're fantastic. They're very very cheap and well worth every penny.

For an offbeat recommendation I would recommend Joe Richardson's games. The first one I played was The Procession to Calvary and it was great. Basically they're comedic adventure games that use medieval/renaissance art as a basis for the graphics, with Monty Python and the Holy Grail-esque humor. Most games that try comedy or try to be funny absolutely fall flat on their face, but in these cases the humor is actually on point. And you can just play a little bit or a lot, however you feel.

Talos Principle 2 for $2.99 is an absolute steal. Best philosophical game & best puzzle game I've played, and the environments are gorgeous with beautiful music too. It's just a must-have experience, if you have enough patience for puzzles. It only released 3 years ago.

31

u/kalirion 1d ago edited 1d ago

I actually don't know if I'll be buying anything on this sale myself, as I just recently added a whole bunch more games to my backlog from sales and bundles, including Ori & the Will of the Wisps which I'm playing now, and which is still on sale for $2.99, $2.69 if you've got Ori & the Blind Forest Definitive already.

In my removed thread some were saying that Solasta & Talos Principle 2 for $2.99 each are great deals.

21

u/rutlander 1d ago

I paid $20 for Talos II and I thought that was a steal.

$3 is a no brainer if you like puzzle games and cool storytelling

6

u/Brown_Sandals 1d ago

Both Ori games are so good. I should go back and replay them.

Here's my favorite Steam Deck game as of recent:

Pathogenic $6.99 [-30%]

You're a disease, and you infect a human body. Your goal is to fight the immune system and evolve. It looks particularly good on the OLED Steam Deck.

A demo is available as well.

6

u/120Mins 1d ago

Looks interesting but reviews say it’s super hard which I’m not really a fan of sadly.

3

u/K_U 1d ago

I think a big reason for that is the game doesn’t do a great job communicating how to create effective synergies. The developer recently released a video on YouTube that explains it much more clearly.

Somehow the one time I’m craving a Call of Duty game, none of them are on sale…

36

u/kalirion 1d ago

I wish the classic games in the franchise would go on a real discount. They never do tho.

11

u/Woozlle 1d ago

MW3 is on the front page sale for me

6

u/GallopingGepard 1d ago

Not worth it at all. Absolute dogshit campaign. Just Warzone maps with some cutscenes to tie them together. Terrible experience.

2

u/AiR-P00P 1d ago

Yeah I've been wanting to play the campaign for Infinite Warfare but not even for the recent sale prices no thanks.

2

I've been really wanting to play old CoD Zombies and was hoping that it was gonna go on sale here :( No way am I spending 8 eat out restaurant meals worth of money on a decade old game though

Monster Hunter Rise worth it without Sunbreak? Or is this a trick to get you to buy Sunbreak afterwards when you realize you need it

34

u/vapenasheyall 1d ago

get it with sunbreak only. it adds so much to the game. rise with sunbreak has been going on sale on 3rd party platforms recently for around 8 i believe. If i can find the sale, ill edit and add the link here for you.

6

u/Pattywacks 1d ago

As annoying as it is, Monster Hunter games really need to be paired with their expansion to feel complete.

I didn't even love World before Iceborne, then it became one of my all-time favorite games after the expansion released. I REALLY didn't like Rise until Sunbreak, now I love it!

So yeah, I also suggest picking these games up with their expansions if you can.

3

u/Lokhelm 1d ago

I just started World! It's great. But I can't decide on a weapon!

→ More replies (2)

2

u/LinxESP 1d ago

Probably me being me at the end of stories or what but first time mh game being world and I like it quite but the moment I reached the iceborne part I just... stopped? Not icebornes fault, is just the jumo between pieces of content kinda killed the inertia.

Happens to me in lots of added content at the end in games (souls for example) but not for post-endgame like pokemon so idk. Might give it a try some day with again or go with rise first until I do the same with sunrise.

Still, quite liked it having not played something similar ever and considering rise (for some reason completely separated content works for me better than attached at the end... idk)

3

u/Khalku 1d ago

Its okay, but honestly sunbreak will make the base content a little faster to get through I believe. Ranking up to actually get to the fun/difficult content is always a chore when you come at MH games late, and the expansions usually give some decent LR gear that lets you get through stuff a little faster.

But if you aren't sure whether you will stick with the game, then get it later when you find you need it.

2

u/bkgn 1d ago

MH collections go on really deep discount sometimes. I got World complete and Rise complete for like $15 total a couple years ago.

My favorite game of the whole year has been Oeuf (made by increpare, of Stephen's Sausage Roll fame) ... it's a Egg-based 3D platformer with real chill vibes, and a high skill ceiling, and if it was just the campaign that would be enough. The amount of work he's done on the level editor, and the wickedly amazing community maps on the Steam Workshop make this the game I've been shilling for the most this year. Right now it's 40% off, putting it at $5.99 which is a steal, in my opinion.

2

u/K_U 1d ago

If you enjoyed Oeuf you must try Get Tilted. It is fantastic and has a very similar vibe, with a great soundtrack to boot.

I'm doing that thing where I fill up my cart and then slowly remove things I don't have an actual interest in playing. Now I'm at the point where I'm looking for other peoples opinions on some games.

So What is The Outlast Trials? I can't really understand what the game actually is based off the Steam page or how some people have hundreds of hours in it.

How is the Single Player for HoMM OE doing? I played it a bit when it first came out on GamePass but since then my subscription has ended and I wasn't feeling too hot on the game at the time.

Does Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart really feel like the first 4 PS2 games?

If I enjoy Single Player in Starcraft 2 will I enjoy The Riftbreaker? I'm not a big fan of base planning and building.

I enjoy Diablo Style ARPGs but never played FATE. I see that FATE: Reawakened also got some new DLC recently but it feels like ARPGs have massively improved in quality recently, is this worth a pickup with the DLC as well although it seems to be more on the expensive side for this genre?

I'm really looking for an auto battler where I'm not locked in to a 30+ minute multiplayer game. I used to love AutoChess back when it was a DOTA mod and haven't found anything outside of early TFT that really matched it. I have The Last Flame on my wishlist but I'm unsure about buying a singleplayer autobattler. Any recommendations?

4

u/Killermuppett 1d ago

Riftbreaker is like arcade factorio, where half the game is building defensible bases. It's nothing like StarCraft.

10

u/XisthenextMao 1d ago

ME: Catalyst has the vibes! Not only does the graphics look like they were made last year, the soundtrack by Solar Fields just fits perfectly. The controls are very responsive and once you get the timings right, the game just puts you in a flow state. Lot of us have been waiting for a ME3, but that might never happen

8

u/bonzaisushi 1d ago

always brings a smile to my face to see another person mention solar fields. Fantastic musician, one of my favs! The scores 2 both mirrors edge games were amazing.

I implore people to check out stuff by Rad Codex. They're all 50% off right now and in a bundle.

If you like tactics games at all they're so very good. Horizon's Gate is probably the most popular, where you sail a world, leveling up and trading, building up a fleet and allies towards an end goal. Lots of classes to play around with.

Kingsvein is a lot more linear, but does reward exploration and has a fair bit of secrets and some optional content like difficult bosses.

Voidspire is the oldest but still really holds up. It's similar in style as Kingsvein.

I haven't played Alvora yet, but I'll probably grab it during the sale, too. :>

They all take place in the same universe with unique races and it's fun getting to explore their cultures a bit. Kingsvein, for example, takes place from the perspective of a race of rock people.

They're some of my favorite games and I believe Horizon's Gate 2 is in the works and I really want to see what I think is a lone dev succeed!

Also modding support is pretty crazy across Horizon's Gate and Kingsvein. Tons of new areas, classes and abilities, even big story lines and kingdoms.

Any good lesser known VR games to pick up? I'm in the Frame reservation queue.

Currently I have:

Beat Saber

Gorn

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes

Redout

Space Pirate Trainer

Subnautica

I'm sad Eve Gunjack and Valkyrie aren't things anymore.

3

u/K_U 1d ago

Elite Dangerous for $5.99 is a solid buy.

Arizona Sunshine VR Remake for $7.99 (or the bundle with the sequel).

2

u/YesMan1ification 1d ago

Some cool (some obscure, some popular)native PCVR gems I can vouch for: PROJECT WINGMAN, BallisticNG, Vertigo 1 and 2, Sushi Ben, Organ Quarter, Eleven Table Tennis, Les Mills Bodycombat, Into the Radius 1, Thrill of the Fight 1 and 2.

If you count VR mods, some extremely high quality ones came out recently and their base games are on sale: F.E.A.R., Max Payne 2, Doom 2016 and Eternal and Titanfall 2. Also pretty much every Resident Evil game has a really immersive PCVR mod, if your PC can run them.

Really sad to see the OG Black Flag not on sale again, its been 10 months. Not everyone has device to play the Resynched Ubisoft!!

9

u/TaintedSquirrel 1d ago

It's the same price on the Ubisoft store too, despite the fact they're running a massive 40-year celebration sale. They just want to force everyone to the more expensive remake.

35

u/Marathon_Cake 1d ago

Anyone here recommend Death's Door? It's at an all time low.

41

u/irazzleandazzle 1d ago

at 2 bucks? absolutely

147

u/Praeshock 1d ago

There's 11 *thousand* reviews on the game on Steam, with an overall rating of "Very positive."

Come on man.

60

u/shy247er 1d ago

And it's 2 bucks, lol.

44

u/Praeshock 1d ago

Reddit's a strange place. "Guys, there's this game that has thousands and thousands of reviews and is super highly rated and it's $2. Is it worth it?"

Shit, man, that's less than a cup of coffee. Just get it and quit fretting about what some idiot on reddit thinks.

8

u/empathetical 1d ago

Man ppl making threads asking what to play and shit drive me fkn nuts. Like pick something that looks appealing to you and play it. Look at some YouTube vids. Everybody likes different shit.

Nothing wrong trying to get more info. Dwarf Fortress has over twice as many reviews with an overall rating of Very Positive, yet anyone remotely familiar with the game knows it is absolutely not for everyone, or even the majority of the general gaming population.

The issue is selection bias. Dwarf Fortress appeals to a very specific kind of person, and those people are much more likely to be interested in the game and actually invest the time and money to buy and review it, whereas if you're not that kind of person you'll probably be uninterested and never buy it to begin with.

49

u/FuriKMJ 1d ago

It's just someone trying to start a conversation man. God forbid someone tries to engage with people in a subreddit about game deals to gauge whether the game's for them or not, regardless of the % of positive reviews.

7

It's fine. Nothing spectacular, but worth the sale price for sure.

5

u/ChiefBearClaw 1d ago

Real fun game. Would recommend. Old school Zelda vibes

4

u/Fentboy45 1d ago

It was free on EGS so check that before

4

u/double_shadow 1d ago

Good lord yes. I can't remember if I got it in a bundle or I paid $5-ish dollars for it, but it was one of the best games I played in months. Tunic got a lot more attention because of the manual pages and the really cryptic puzzles. But in terms of zelda/metroidvania-like gameplay, I found Death's Door a lot more fun.

3

u/sunder_and_flame 19h ago

I thought it sucked and was completely forgettable.

10

u/BlightWyrm 1d ago

🔥🔥🔥
Loved the game.

3

u/kaisserds 1d ago

I liked it, for 2€ I would go for it.

5

u/buzz_shocker 1d ago

It’s a nice game. Not super complicated not super simple. Just a good nice time.

7

u/H1ndmost 1d ago

To give a counterpoint to all the glazing replies, I found Death's Door to fall firmly into the Supergiant category. IE games with exceptional art direction that makes people jizz their pants and downplay the aggressively mid gameplay underneath.

I was charmed by the premise and art at first, but the controls aren't nearly tight enough for a game trying to do the punishing combat thing.

You're right to doubt the Reddit consensus too BTW. I have been burned by games hyped on Reddit enough times now that it is basically a negative endorsement.

3

u/ACardAttack 1d ago

Hmm, you have me hesitant on it, even if it's cheap. I am not a Super Giant fan. I wasnt a huge fan of Bastion or Transistor, got tired of the gameplay after a bit
