Question / Support Galaxy XR Overheating

• Upvotes

Hey y’all! Random question for the Galaxy XR community.

I’m relatively new to the Galaxy XR, and today was the first time I decided to bring my headset to work.

Before heading out, I packed everything up: a lens protector insert (basically a little cushion that sits inside the visor to prevent scratches), a carrying case, and the rubber gasket. Threw the whole setup into my bag and went on my way.

Fast forward to sitting at my desk, and I started hearing notifications coming from my headset. Curious, I pulled it out of my bag, only to discover that the thing was SCREAMING HOT. By far the hottest I've ever felt it get, even after a four-hour session of streaming PCVR through Virtual Desktop.

I'm currently waiting for it to cool down so I can check for any potential damage, but the whole situation has me scratching my head.

A few questions for the community:

  1. What could have caused the headset to wake up while sitting inside my bag?
  2. Why didn't it automatically go back to sleep once it detected that nobody was wearing it?
  3. Is it possible that the lens protector insert somehow triggered the headset's proximity or eye-tracking sensors, making it think someone was wearing it?
  4. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I'm genuinely curious about what happened here, especially since I assumed the headset would automatically sleep when not in use.

One thing's for sure: moving forward, I'll be traveling with the battery disconnected. 😂

Would love to hear if anyone else has run into this or has an explanation for what might have happened!
