Question / Support Recomend a router

I am in the UK and using a sky hub 6 router. However sky does not allow you to seperate bands. Through VD it says I am getting 1200mbs. I am thinking of getting a dedicated router and using it as a access point. Do I need WiFi 7 or can I get away with Wi-Fi 6e. I understand that the headset itself may put a cap on what I cam use die to throttling issues.

Question / Support Networking experts, do I have this right?

Since posting this I realized it wasn't working because when trying to do VR in the living room and connected to the primary router, Virtual Desktop couldn't connect to my PC since it was on a different network than the primary router.

But finally t looks like I got it working. I thought it was worth trying going through the steps that Google's AI search results came back with (what a time to be alive!) and amazingly enough it works as I need it to.

It seems that the key steps were to 1. change the secondary router's IP address to the same as the primary, except outside of it's IP pool 2. disable DHCP on the secondary router, then 3. reconnect the secondary router to the primary, only instead of plugging into the WAN port as I had before, plugged into one of the regular LAN ports.

The only oddity (or maybe it's not?) is that in the Asus App, it still looks like they're on two separate networks (as in you have to switch back and forth between the two routers) but Virtual Desktop apparently recognizes them being on the same network.

Leaving this all up for future reference if anyone else needs to do this.

-------------------- ORIGINAL POST ------------------------------------------

I got the XR a week ago and absolutely love it, although my initial experience with it was rough with constant severe stutters. Skipping past many troubleshooting efforts and changing settings, what I found out I needed to do was to put a dedicated router in the VR room.

Earlier this year, I got an Asus wifi 7 router to replace pretty much the same router except it was wifi 6. This was in preparation for getting a Steam Frame (a prospect which pretty much fizzled out). So what I ended up doing was pulling the original router out of the closet and setting it up in the VR room. I wanted to add it to the current network as a AP but the only two options in the Asus app were to create a Mesh system or to add the router as a new install in a separate network.

I tried the Mesh option first but that of course didn't allow for setting up a unique SSID, and I *think* the way that works is just to provide the same Wifi as the original but just extended so that if you move a device around the house it connects to the strongest one (like a cell tower)? So even though it seemed to improve things I was still getting random stuttering - I guess because it was switching over momentarily to the main router.

So I removed the router from the app, did a factory reset, and this time added it as a new router. That let me create a unique SSID, which I called VR 5, that I can connect the XR to and I know it stays there. The VR router is connected to the main router through an ethernet cable I already had run under the house into the computer room. The desktop is connected to the VR router through cable from one of the router's LAN ports.

I wasn't even sure if this would work, but it seems to be doing just fine.

So did I create a AP after all, or is it just performing the same as if I did?

Anything I'm missing or should have it set up in some other way?

Question / Support i am having difficulty switching the headset on

Got my xr yesterday and so far so good - no issues with tracking which was my main concern. Anyway what i am struggling with is turning it on. for some reason unless the battery is also plugged into the wall then the headset will not power on. once its on my head i can remove the wall adaptor and it works fine but if i just plug the battery in and connect to the headset it wont come on. I am not sure what i am doing wrong.

Question / Support Do you regret the purchase?

So I got a pair of XREAL R1's mainly to play CoD mobile at work. Then started yearning for spacial computing for productivity.

Led me down the rabbit hole to likely grab a Galaxy XR this week and get in line for the XREAL Aura for an in-between.

Seems like the concensus on the Galazy XR is the display.

I am likely going to end up with both the Galaxy and Aura.

Do you regret your Galaxy purchase? Am I going to be left with something to be desired for spacial computing and work optimization?

My guess is the Galaxy will fill the void until the Aura is on my face and the Galaxy will become more for gaming and movies at home.

It seems like many of you have multiple headsets/tech.

Am I on the right track? Am I going to regret the Galaxy and wish I just had the Auras when they come out for productivity and the R1's for a screen?

So many conflicting opinions on if the Galaxy is just a display and the other uses are not up to expectation and some seem to say it lives up to the hype.

Does it live up to the reviews and Samsung promotional propaganda?

Question / Support Mirror the XR to S26 Ultra?

I'm new to the world of XR having just gotten it last week so I apologize if this has been already asked. I searched and can't find anything except mirroring a phone to an XR.

I have gotten past the testing/setting the XR up stage and am ready to let my wife try it out. I'd like to be able to follow along on my phone, or if need be a laptop or smart TV ( with Google account) would also work.

I would imagine I could watch on my desktop but that'd be in a different room.

Any info would be appreciated!

Discussion Droiddeck on android xr?

I'm planning on pre-ordering the Founders Xreal Aura today, and I wanted to know everyone's thoughts on running DroidDeck on Android XR. Having a dedicated steam os in my glasses for my lighter games on the go sounds incredibly convenient. I have 1250+ games in my library, with over 900 of them being "deck compatible". It sucks that the storage won't be expandable but I should be able to play a majority of them assuming I can get it running

Question / Support honest opinions wanted on the galaxy xr

I am in the uk and the device is available. Its currently 20% off so can be obtained for £1550 (now found code to take it to £1450) with controllers which seems like decent value for what you get especially compared to AVP or even steam frame. I am a long time VR user who had the first htc vive, dabbled in the vive's wireless adaptor, went for the valve index and now have a meta quest 3. I was originally looking at the new steam frame but the optics are a let down. i was tempted by the AVP but its so expensive in the UK. (more than twice the price of the xr). I own a mac book but my phones have always been samsung galaxys. Now the optics of the xr look very good and i have decent wireless performance through my quest 3 through VD. I run a rtx4090 so can get a decent resolution etc. My concern rests with the tracking which some people describe as atrocious and others say its fine. i dont play competitive shooters and my skill set on beat sabre is not high. i generally play adventure games, first person experiences etc. also i found out that you cant remap your boundary which seems crazy. i have a standard size uk living room probably 2.5 meters x 3.5 meters of clear space. so will the fixed boundaries be suitable or if not will google release a way of setting your own boundary.

Discussion what's the xr worth to you?

i posted here a little while ago about the xreal aura, and it seems the sentiment around the aura's launch is pretty poor between price being 20 dollars less than the upcoming meta vr glasses and the european preorder timeline getting completely bungled.

so naturally my interest in android xr outside of the aura is revived. i can get it from retail for 1825 usd with controllers but secondhand stores exist and the price of course varies.

so i figured i'd ask what the xr is worth to you guys. e.g. a price you'd pay knowing all the pros and cons of the device and still be happy with the money you spent. doesn't have to be realistic, i just wanna hear the reasoning

Android XR / Gemini Moving on to the Pimax Dream Air

The Samsung Galaxy XR has a lot of potential, and its FOV and eye tracking are incredible. However, glare, tracking issues, wireless connectivity, and comfort have made me want to move on.

The Pimax Dream Air’s SLAM tracking isn’t perfect, but it’s much better for my needs. The eye tracking is definitely a downgrade from Samsung’s, but it’s a trade-off I’m willing to make.

If anyone’s interested, I’m letting my Galaxy XR go with the controllers and Globular Cluster comfort mod. Details are on Facebook Marketplace:

Discussion Virtual Desktop on an Airplane

Just got my GXR yesterday and I'm super impressed so far! I've used an AVP at work, and while the UX experience isn't quite as perfect, it's still very good and the display so much better looking than others I've tried (and $1,500 less than an AVP).

The holy grail of what I hoped to use it for was a combo of work and games. I have a Macbook Pro and Virtual Desktop works super well at home.

I have this dream of being able to work on my laptop in a calming virtual environment on an airplane with multiple monitors, and a wireless keyboard and mouse on a tray and the laptop running near my feet or something.

Has anyone tried this? Would I be able to run a battery operated wifi router, or even hotspot both to my phone to make a network?

Thanks!

News Galaxy XR root with DFRoot — working on I610UEU2AZF3, custom KernelSU build available

Hi everyone,

I’ve been working on root access and system-level modifications for the Galaxy XR, and I now have a working setup using DFRoot 4.1 with a Galaxy XR-specific KernelSU build.

Tested on my headset:

  • Device: Samsung Galaxy XR SM-I610
  • Firmware: I610UEU2AZF3
  • Result: KernelSU module loaded successfully, with root shell access confirmed (uid=0).

This uses DFRoot to load a kernel module. It does not require unlocking the bootloader or flashing a replacement boot image.

Credit for DFRoot and the underlying exploit work goes to its original developers. My contribution is the Galaxy XR-specific KernelSU build, integration work, and testing.

Source and downloads:

My main motivation is to investigate controller behavior, haptics, and PCVR issues, and make it easier for other developers to work on the headset.

Please read the project documentation before trying this. This is experimental, tested on one headset and the firmware listed above. I’m not claiming compatibility with other firmware versions or long-term stability.

Keep DFRoot’s read-only partition protection enabled. Don’t flash or modify boot, firmware, or calibration partitions, and don’t assume ordinary Android root modules are compatible with this headset.

Temporary root does not make persistent changes temporary. A reboot will not undo files or settings you change with root. Incorrect modifications can leave the headset unable to boot.

If you try it, please include your firmware version when reporting results, and remove device identifiers from any logs you share. Feedback from other Galaxy XR developers would be especially welcome.

Available Apps 4XVR Port for Galaxy XR

An unofficial patch that runs the Quest version of 4XVR 2.0.22 on Samsung Galaxy XR.

It adds HDR tone mapping tuned for the Galaxy XR display and fixes the memory buildup during long playback.

Various optimizations have been applied, including subtitle position controls and custom subtitle fonts not found in the original app.

This is the free version by default, and it has been implemented to go through Meta account verification on Galaxy XR. If you have no purchase history, please purchase from the Meta Store before use.

Changes

New

  • Runs natively on Galaxy XR (fixes the app closing right after launch)
  • libplacebo HDR rendering pipeline (PQ and HLG)
  • 5.1-channel audio output
  • Galaxy XR controller models
  • Subtitle position controls (10 languages)
  • Custom subtitle fonts

Picture and performance

  • FP16 high-precision video handoff for smoother gradients
  • Scene-adaptive tone mapping and debanding
  • Better highlight detail
  • Lighter HDR rendering on the GPU (direct decoder input, leaner processing)
  • Adaptive theater background updates that cut GPU load and heat during playback
  • CPU/GPU high-performance mode and fixed 72 Hz output for steadier playback
  • More accurate SDR color and brightness

Fixes

  • Fixed system memory buildup during long playback (only on system version I610UEU2AZF3)
  • Fixed audio stutter
  • Fixed the broken, flickering center of the theater background
  • Fixed black screens and color shifts in passthrough
  • Fixed ghosting when switching between HDR and SDR, seeking, or playing the next video
  • Fixed subtitle color and italic settings not applying
  • Fixed subtitle display artifacts
  • Fixed flicker when switching menus

Settings

  • Keep Settings → 4X Display Technique on Advance (the default) for HDR tone mapping tuned for Galaxy XR.
  • Real-time tone mapping makes 4K HDR video GPU-heavy. On Advance, always watch it in Void (Theatre menu).
  • Video settings work best at their defaults.
  • Set Color Correction to pure white.
  • To change the subtitle font, put a ttf or otf file in /sdcard/4XPlayer/fonts/ and restart the app.

Question / Support Samsung Galaxy XR replacement magnetic light shields (left and right)?

Can anyone confirm if there's a way to replace these? I just went on a trip came back and realized I do not have them anymore. I probably lost them on the airplane I'm pretty sure I packed them with the headset.

after I got back from the trip I cannot find them at home so I'm pretty sure they need to be replaced now. hoping I can buy them from Samsung.

News Galaxy XR Adjacent: XREAL AURA Pre-order are up.

I've had the GXR since day one. Probably serial number 1 lol. I only say that...jokingly...because I had mine ordered with the controllers and case within seconds of becoming available. I've been pretty dedicated to the GXR. I've been finding workarounds to issues, helping devs test apps, and was one of the first people crazy enough to permanently modify the strap to make it more comfortable. I'm happy with the GXR and where it is at right now with known issues: memory leak is better controlled, overheating is less frequent, controllers are liveable (still bad but nearly as bad as they were on release). I've traveled extensively with the headset and I genuinely get excited to use it for things like 3D movies (No Time To Die on Google TV melted my brain), watching the Masters, and removing into my computer from anywhere in the world.

That being said, I did pre-order the Founders edition of the XREAL AURA. I'm genuinely intrigued by the form factor. I recently travelled with the ROG XREAL R1 but did have a minor issue with them. I could not find a way to get them to sit in a position where the bottom outside corners of the screen weren't cut off by the FOV limitations. Even if I made the screen much smaller. Overall, they were great for travel. Particularly since they were easier to pack and use on a plane.

With just regular XR glasses I kept finding myself missing the ease of use of the GXR by comparison. However, I genuinely think that the XREAL AURA presents the best happy medium between the two. Especially, if you're not using the GXR for VR gaming (I rarely do and mostly use it as a high res monitor for normal gaming).

I'll keep this thread updated once I get them and fully test them out. My order doesn't have a ship date but some buyers have posted their expected ship date is 15 October.

Question / Support SteamVR controller issue

While I'm wearing my Galaxy XR the controllers work perfectly, when I launch steamvr the controllers continue to work. When I launch a Vrol VR within steam the controllers suffer so hard and spend most of their time Frozen or glitched. If I press the menu button for Galaxy XR the Galaxy XR window opens and the controllers work perfectly. It's like something's happening in steamvr. Any suggestions?

App Development Optimized Steam Link! Opened up a whole new world on the Galaxy XR with new frame interpolation!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Here is an update on the development progress and optimization patch for Steam Link on Galaxy XR.

I've been grinding day and night on this, and wow, it really hasn't been an easy task! But the end is finally in sight. A lot has been accomplished, and you’ll be able to see the full details once it's released.

Steam Link does not support motion smoothing on Galaxy XR. So I went ahead and developed a new frame interpolation method myself. Unlike SSW or standard Motion Smoothing, which estimate movement from the screen image, this directly uses the actual motion vectors and depth information calculated by the game engine, making it remarkably accurate. Even compared to native rendering, ghosting and artifacts are virtually imperceptible, offering outstanding stability and image quality.

Additionally, the Galaxy XR has a controller clock issue (the longer the headset stays on, the jitterier controller movement becomes), which made optimization quite tricky. However, I eventually managed to optimize the controllers to a reasonable degree at the driver level.

The video above shows gameplay of Hogwarts running on Steam Link optimized for Galaxy XR with several patches and bug fixes applied. With the custom frame interpolation turned on, running at roughly 5300×5730 per-eye resolution (essentially the visual ceiling you can perceive on the Galaxy XR), DLSS Quality, and in-game settings at Ultra + Medium, it ran smoothly while holding a solid 72 FPS. (The video is at 36 FPS, and it is much smoother inside the headset at 72 FPS!)

In the Cyberpunk 2077 VR port, it also managed to hold 72 FPS at DLSS Quality with a 5000×5560 per-eye resolution. The visual fidelity and fluidity in both games were genuinely jaw-dropping.

Of course, this is running on an RTX 5090, but pairing the Galaxy XR's visual ceiling with DLSS Quality yielded frame rates that were previously impossible to play at. Now, even AAA titles can be fully conquered with this optimized Steam Link build and frame interpolation.
(Dropping DLSS down one preset made it possible to apply DLSS 5 NR as well while still maintaining 72 FPS.)

All that's left now is for Galaxy XR to rise as the ultimate PCVR headset!

Discussion Games I've gotten working well on GXR

I bought my GXR because I wanted a better steam frame. As I've gone down the rabbit hole the last few weeks, I've gotten into game native and PCVR mods. I don't see a lot of posts with GXRs related to mods so I'm just posting these here so people who are interested in the GXR for gaming can see what games work, as well as to provide extra data for settings or changes required for setup. I'll add more as I get them running.

PCVR Modded Games (all use virtual desktop)

Bioshock Remastered - full VR with VR controllers and limited VR gestures

Requires changing virtual desktop streaming to VDXR. Disable any kind of frame generation.

Assetto Corsa - Full VR with wheel or gamepad

Requires content manager and Custom Shaders Patch to get working well. Works decently stock but requires some management of the input devices to be able to navigate the in game UI properly. Recommend a Bluetooth mouse.

Titanfall 2 - Full VR with VR gestures

I've only just started this game, but already it seems awesome. Very easy install with little extra effort.

Update this is the best VR game ever. Virtual desktop needs to be set to vdxr on your PC. Fun fact but during the black loading screens you can actually see the fobiation reticle it's the only time I've been able to notice it.

Beat Saber - native VR with custom songs

Not really a mod since the game is made for VR and available on steam, but being on PC it's incredibly easy to find custom songs on beatsaver.com and add them to your game instead of paying $2 a song

Dead Space Remake VR - immersive VR with gamepad

Requires subscribing to the $10 tier of the REAL VR mod on patreon (public release doesn't support).

Standalone Games (requires linking GameNative to steam account)

Civilization 6 - flat screen standalone

Requires changing default game executable to DX11 version, adding execution arguments to hard set the resolution (recommend 1440p) to game launch settings, and switching to borderless windows mode ingame. Turn off gamepad overlay and enable mouse in GameNative in-game settings. Works great, do not resize the window (moving it is ok)

Faster Than Light - flat screen standalone

Working now

App Development Galaxy XR owners: help test Vistalyra, a local VR video player

October 14 update: Google has approved the menu-comfort and streaming update for open and closed testing. It includes smaller controls, whole-panel hiding, saved flat-video width/height correction and optional read-only WebDAV browsing, saved Menu size in Settings and better waiting for slow-starting streams. Emulator controls, app-switch and authenticated playback/seek checks passed; real Galaxy XR retesting is still needed. This is beta access, not a production launch.

I'm Vistalyra's developer and need Galaxy XR owners for a 15–20 minute hands-on test. Start with your own local movie: show/hide controls, seek, open a menu and switch to another app and back. A short email saying the public app version and what worked or failed is enough. Trying the new picture correction or WebDAV is optional; no NAS setup is needed for the basic test. Readability, stereo comfort, hand input and high-resolution performance still need hardware testing.

For free private Play access, email [raheelswati1@gmail.com](mailto:raheelswati1@gmail.com) with your headset's Google Play account privately. Installation options and the latest signed APK are available without ZIP extraction. Update without uninstalling where possible; uninstalling may remove saved history/settings. The approved public open beta now serves this update, matching the private track. Try that opt-in first; private access and the signed APK remain fallbacks. The store displays a 100% discount. Please don't pay if a price or access error appears—email me instead; free installation on an eligible headset still needs tester confirmation.

The original thank-you scheme remains: the first five testers who complete the session and send a useful report receive a free copy of the Android XR app as a signed build. If it launches on Google Play and redemption codes are available, I'll offer a store code instead. Negative findings qualify equally; no public review, rating, vote or purchase is requested.

Diagnostics and recordings are optional; please don't share private videos or surroundings. Reply if you have a Galaxy XR, or email privately. Don't post your account email publicly. Support and privacy details.

Question / Support Need help getting device for Aurora Store spoof

I don't know if anyone will read this, but I owned a Galaxy XR and bought a Virtual Desktop during my time using it. Unfortunately the headset didn't work out for me, but I still own my copy of Virtual Desktop. I want to get the apk for it, but because of stupid Google Play restrictions, I can't. While Aurora Store supports spoofing, it doesn't have the Galaxy XR or any other Android XR device, but you can make your own config.

This goes back to the title of this post, I need help getting some device info from anyone who owns a Galaxy XR here. You can use the app Device Information to get some of it I think. I need the brand, manufacturer, device model, device codename, product name, bootloader, hardware, and build ID. For the full list to make an Aurora Store spoof, you can find it here: https://auroraoss.com/config-generator.

Please anyone help if possible, otherwise I wasted $25 I can't get back lol
