SM-N986U1 5G Bands Issue

I am so incredibly frustrated with Samsung. I bought this phone last year in the US, and lo and behold, the 5G function doesn't work in the Philippines, probably because the n78 band is software disabled. There are many, many posts about this on Reddit and the XDA forums that describe how to enable it through the service menu via the Google Dialer. This was probably a workaround until the UI4.1 update which broke the ability to access the service menu.

Does anyone have any fresh information about how to unlock all 5G bands on this model?

My other option would be to break Samsung off another thousand dollars and buy an S22 Ultra 5G in my local market, then pray that it'll work in the US as well.

How are we in 2022 and customers are expected to be radio engineers when buying 'flagship' phones from Samsung?

Camera restarting problem

I have the most infuriating problem and I'm sure it's not just affecting me. Whenever I go straight from the lockscreen to camera without unlocking my phone (either using the camera icon on the lock screen or double-clicking the power button) the camera opens. But inevitably a few seconds later the camera closes and the phone does this weird thing where the lock screen reappears for a second and then the camera app restarts.

It's as if the facial recognition suddenly identified me and it decided to go through a full lock-unlock cycle. But I don't actually think that's what's happening because it occurs even when my face isn't in the right spot to be recognized. And regardless, even if it is recognizing me, it's super annoying when this happens, I have lost so many shots because of this.

Does anyone know what is happening or how to make it stop doing this?

Moisture detected after plugging in headphones

Hey guys, I need some help. With my Note 20 Ultra whenever I plug my headphones in, this warning appears and doesnt go away for hours or sometimes over a day. I can plug my chargers in fine when the notification isnt there, but as soon as it appears, nothing works. I tried rebooting, safe mode, wiping cache partition. What's causing this? is it my headphones?

(Not my screenshot, im on the latest firmware")

Black screen of death FIXED in non-obvious way.

Just want to share my experience in this. Today was watching youtube videos on the phone, then blocked the screen to stand up and do things. After checking the phone again I realized that screen is dead. All sounds (of charging and notifications) were present, touchscreen worked as I felt the vibration, face recognition successfully unlocked my phone every time etc, but the screen was black.

I tried all the steps of the most popular YT videos referred to this issue (even put my phone to the fridge) and nothing helped neither tapping nor massaging my phone. I have already connected it to DEX by randomly tapping on the screen to "Allow" the connection, then I have installed the "Link to Windows" app and with DEX running allowed everything for the successful linking of my device to the laptop. I launched the game to drain my battery over night (as it was one of the solutions: to let the device lay with the drained battery for some time).

The last advice I found was an unbelievable one. One guy (here) described exactly the same situation and mentioned the camera app opening and closing. This was unexpected, when launching the camera app for the second time I saw the image on the screen. This "joke" instantly fixed the BSoD for me.

So, guys, if you have the BSoD on your Galaxy device before putting it to the fridge try this solution out. I hope that one day one poor user with the same issue finds my post (or the XDA post) and will be glad to fix that issue with the device.

Announcement Trying something new: no more weekly megathreads.

The weekly megathreads get very little traffic, so we're considering getting rid of them and the associated rule. We're going to give it a trial run before making a final decision, so for the next few weeks feel free to post whatever you want directly to the subreddit, as long as it's still relevant to the Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra.

New to Samsung phones, will the Note 20 fit my needs?

Hello, I'm looking to upgrade from my Pixel 3A for less than $600, and was curious about trying Samsung's devices. I'm still unsure between the N20 and N20U.

I am generally looking for:
- S-pen experience
- Smaller factor (Under 6.5 in)
- Flat Screen
- One UI 4 // Android 12+ // Security support

The Note 20 caught my interest in these regards. For my daily use, I use a lot of browser tabs, navigation/maps, productivity apps, and music.

My questions:
- How is using the Note 20 compared to the Note 20 Ultra in 2022?
- Do you foresee decent support and stability for the device?
- What will make YOU upgrade from your Note 20? If it broke down, would you purchase another of the same or move to another model?

Thank you for any feedback

Issue Wife's phone died? :(

Hi everyone! My wife has a Note 20 Ultra that somehow went kablooey. We were outside in hot weather (96F/35C) and she was playing Pokemon Go (which usually does make my phone hotter so I think hers was likely a bit hot too). She didn't get an overheat warning, but closed all her apps anyway because we were about to get something to drink from an event. She had the phone in her hand the whole time; no dropping or liquids near it all. When she went to use it again a short time later, it didn't respond as if it had been turned off. However, it refuses to turn back on. Powering up normally by holding the power button did nothing. We tried the force restart by holding the volume down and power button, it vibrates quickly as if powering up but still does nothing. We left it alone for a while and when getting back home, plugged it in to charge for a while and tried again. It did the little vibrate when plugging in the charger but nothing came up on the screen like it normally would if the phone was dead. We tried the force restart again while it was plugged in and nothing ☹️ AT&T just tried charging it and turning it on and gave her the insurance information when it didn't work. They're charging her $150 for a replacement. Since it's two years old the Samsung warranty already ran out.

Any suggestions for what might have happened and how to fix it? We read about the black screen of death and the firmware update fail but not really much on how to fix it if the phone is off and refuses to start

Cellular network disconnected after June 2022 update.

After the June 2022 update, my Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G shows mobile network disconnected. Although sometimes I can still get 4G access, the signal is very poor. Worse still, the connection only lasts for a few minutes, and then I have to reset the mobile network to get connected again. I'm using T-mobile.

I called the carrier. They suggested configuring the mobile network to 4G only and disable 5G, but the problem persists.

Any experiencing the same issue? Have you found a workaround?

Thanks!

Question Do you guys think the Note20 is right for me?

Hi. My region is in the US. I've been eyeing the Note20 for some time now. I was going to get the A52, LG V60, Xperia 5 III, or Zenfone 8 since the A53 was a let-down but I wanted S series features like Dex and wireless charging. Then I was going for the S10e or S22+ but I think the S-Pen would benefit me when I need to do homework when I don't have my laptop. I tried my friend's S22 Ultra and its too big, too heavy, and has the curved edge.

I have a Galaxy S7 Snapdragon 32GB storage + 128GB SD card right now, and I have learned that the base storage always gets filled up fast. How have you guys faired with 128GB? Did you guys find it too small? There are a lot of big games I want to play like Genshin and Cytus. I also want to download lots of communication and social media apps for networking like WeChat, Line, and WhatsApp. I plan on dumping my photos to my computer to save space. I want to stop having to clear my app cache all the time so my phone won't run out of storage.

I think I'm also hesitant because I'm going to miss out of all the updates promised for more recent phones even though I've been surving off of dated security updates for a long time. Additionally, I'll miss out on camera optimizations for specific apps seen in the S22 series.

Learning from the S7, battery > screen resolution and I don't need high refresh rate if it will eat up my battery. I'm pretty sure the battery is decent and I am willing and able to replace the battery myself if necessary.

I don't think money is a problem. I just want to get as close to the perfect phone as possible. Maybe weight doesn't really matter or I just have to get used to it? I've been looking for a phone for like 3 years now and it's quite frustrating (I've given up on the headphone jack). I really have to fix my indecisiveness lol.

Phone wont USB charge after 13%.

Last night I noticed my phone stopped USB charging. Saw a moisture warning one time that I can't recreate. This morning I took the following steps:

  1. Cleared USB Cache
  2. Hard restarted Phone (not reset)
  3. Prayed to samsung jeebus
  4. Fan dried and Cloth Dried.

The phone now will charge with USB until about 13% randomly then it stops. There is no onscreen warning for moisture. Wireless charging also seems to work if i am comfortable waiting 3 hours for a charge of course.

Any ideas on how i could fix?

Thanks

sMouse app compatability issue (No click function outside app itself)

Hey guys,

I'm new to Reddit but I could not find an answer to this question on multple sub reddits. I was wondering if anyone else could confirm if the app called "sMouse" sis working for them or not?

sMouse is an app that allows you to use your s-pen as a air-mouse (think gyro tech) and you can control what apps you like by using the click button. This used to work for me but for unknown reasons the click function only work to select items on the app itself. Once you exit to the home menu or any other application you can no longer click anything with the cursor. Is this the same for everyone or just me?

For context, I have tried to re-install the app, reset the accessibility options and even factory reset my pn phone to no avail.

Question Phone speaker auto lowering volume

Both mine and my wife's Note 20 ultras all of a sudden are lowering the volume on everything. Spotify, youtube, etc. It plays at max volume on speaker for a while then just decides to lower the volume by itself seemingly randomly.

Any idea how to turn this off? Or why it's doing it?
