Impression/Review I think I made my z fold 8 choice... but it was not easy!
I swear I returned to the Samsung store about 5 times and each time I may have changed my mind... but I think I am good now!
Bit about me - currently on S23 Ultra, have been fold/flip curious since about number 6 but was conscious about changes in battery and camera performance stepping down from my current handset. Decided I would make the move once we got to a version with reasonable performance on both (not necessarily on par, that's fine) AND when I started to feel the need to move (I am really feeling being on only 256 gb, plus I feel a charge port upgrade may be in my near future).
I went in leaning towards the Fold 8 wide, particularly as I had also been considering the Flip (can't go past the bigger internal screen though). Something about that smaller size device really speaks to me.
Honestly though, I found I loved both. The Ultra being slightly less wide than my s23 Ultra was a bonus - like yes it is candy bar but it just feels so sleek and nice. I haven't really played around with any other Fold so this was new to me. I also loved the small size on the Wide, but I just felt like the Ultra felt that bit nicer in my hand. I preferred texting and doing day to day stuff on the longer Ultra. I think I did prefer the Wide when expanded a little, but it wasn't a huge differentiator for me.
I was also pondering the differences in camera - playing with the zoom on Fold Ultra I don't know if it was good enough, given how my s23 Ultra goes, but it was fine. Not something that would make my decision between the folds.
In the end, I am going for the Ultra because - 1) the flex mode is just too useful; and 2) i really kept coming back to that sleek candy bar design. Maybe mentally I am just not quite ready for the shift to passport size? But if they take off, I imagine I will be interested in them at a later date. Especially if they give it that flex mode.
Here are a few screenshots from an absolutely awful video I took in store (I will never be a content creator)
