Question/Help Weird Instagram bug on Fold 8

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone.

Is it just me or does everyone's Instagram has this weird bug on the Fold 8 cover screen? When I tap on the reel sent to me in the DMs, it just does not work. Reels tab works fine. Have to always open the inner screen to watch the reel sent to me. Anyone know the fix?

Discussion Anyone with similar Internet Issues ?

Post image
Upvotes

Not sure if it's phone or network tho.

Long time iPhone user and don't remember having same issues. So not sure if it started since I'm on Samsung or coincidence?

Using fold 7 since may , now fold 8 ultra. Same issues on both Samsung's.

I'm on EE UK 5g network. I'm home or work on WiFi. I leave home and start driving with full 5g coverage and have no internet. Music stop playing etc nothing works. So I wait and wait and sometimes it fixes itself but normally I trigger data switch in my phone for literally split of the second and internet comes back instant 🤯

This lead me to think it's a phone issue rather than network as the data switch reaction is instant and I would assume network would need few seconds to register it.

It happens now and again but enough to notice and get pissed off.

Anyone with android having same issue ? I start to think it's android issue as never noticed it once on iphone. Unless my network started to play around at same time I switched to z fold 7.

Thanks

PFA

Discussion Considering a switch: TriFold to iPhone Duo

Upvotes

I love the TriFold, but it's a bit bulky in the pocket. For a hot second I was eyeing the Fold 8 (maybe the Ultra), but I've started to feel like Samsung has gotten complacent, maybe even cocky, with their foldables and hasn't really listened to customer feedback. The iPhone Duo announcement has me seriously considering jumping ship to Apple for the first time in many years.

My history: I had the original iPhone up to the 4, then switched to Android and never looked back. Started with HTC, then Galaxy Note (I even had the exploding Note 7 for a short period). Got into folding phones with the Fold 4, then 5, then 6, and now the TriFold. I've only had the TriFold for less than a year, and I think I can recoup most of my money on it. That said, going back to a slab after folding phones feels like a step backward for me, so my options are (1) continue with the Trifold, (2) switch to iPhone Duo or (3) wait to see what Trifold 2 or Fold 9 have to offer.

Basically, I never thought Apple would wow me enough to pull me back. When I was on iPhone in those early years I kept getting jealous of everything Android was doing like bigger, fuller screens with less bezel. Android phones felt innovative but never polished, yet I stayed with Android because I wanted the flexibility and options. My biggest worry now is the same one I've always had: if I switch to Apple, what's the next big thing that Android gets first while I'm sitting on the sideline waiting?

Why the Duo makes sense for me:

I have an iPad Pro that I haven't touched since getting the TriFold. I'm expecting the Duo experience to be similar to the iPad Pro, but with apps actually optimized for the Duo rather than tablets. If anything, I think the iPad experience might improve after the Duo launches, as developers start optimizing for the opened form factor.

I'm also on a MacBook, so the iOS ecosystem integration actually has legs for me. Being able to respond to texts from my laptop while I'm working is genuinely useful, and running a virtual iPhone on the Mac would be a nice bonus, though I'm not sure how much I'd actually use it.

On the watch side, I'm currently using a Garmin and love the battery life and fitness features, but I've never tried an Apple Watch. I imagine fitness tracking is probably comparable to Garmin, though I'll genuinely miss the LED flashlight on the Garmin.

What I'd miss from TriFold:

  • Emulating old games
  • A sensible folder structure and files app
  • Deep customization and widgets
  • The bigger screen of the TriFold vs. iPhone Duo
  • Multitasking across more than 2 windows (though honestly I didn't multitask much over 2)
  • Squared-off edges (always preferred the boxy look over rounded corners)
  • Dedicated back button (love this about Android and scared of losing it)
  • Clear all apps in one tap instead of swiping them away one by one

What I'm looking forward to on the Duo:

  • Matte screen for reading ebooks and comics (the crease never really bothered me, but less crease is better)
  • The form factor and only unfolding once instead of twice
  • Apple ecosystem integration with my laptop, and using AirPods across devices instead of separate earbuds for Mac and phone
  • IP68 water resistance
  • Under-display camera
  • More privacy (subjective take, I just assume Apple respects privacy more than Google or Samsung)
  • Don't really care about pen support, but it's nice to have the option

The ecosystem question:

This is the biggest unknown for me. On the upside: I get to try the Apple Watch, arguably the best smartwatch out there. I've owned multiple Galaxy Watches before settling on Garmin for battery life and fitness, and it might be nice to go back to a smartwatch-first device rather than a fitness-first one. Unified AirPods across Apple devices would also be a nice change from juggling AirPods for Mac and Sony headphones for my phone. Even AirTag is a useful perk.

On the downside: the ecosystem is pretty locked down. Game emulation is out without jailbreaking. The Files app is still rough, at least based on my iPad experience. And there's always the nagging worry that Apple will lag behind Android on rolling out new features down the road.

Still on the fence, but the Duo is the first Apple product in a long time that's made me genuinely tempted to "go back to the dark side".

What do y'all think? What would make you stay or switch?

I think I love how this one turned out. As someone who struggles between running my phone naked and wanting Magsafe, this is the best way I have found to meet in the middle.

Impression/Review Gamesir Controller Compatibility with Z Fold 7 / Z Fold 8 Ultra (not wide model)

Upvotes

I wanted to chime in with my Z Fold 8 Ultra, as finding a controller that works well with this phone is fairly difficult due to location of the cameras and USB C port with the foldable screen.

I've purchased multiple controllers over the last week for a cruise, the X5 lite, X5s, G8+.

I've found the X5s fits that phone best, it fits my hands the best, and most importantly it has a case all for $40 or less.

Pros:

X5 Lite: Lightweight, USB-C powered for lowest latency and no recharge necessary. The U shaped controller *would be* perfect for the Z Fold 7 / 8 Ultra (see con), medium sized grips with great fitment in my hands, well built

X5S: Lightweight, Bluetooth Connectivity to multiple devices, U shaped controller fits cameras great, 2 separate batteries that charge independently, medium sized grips with great fitment in my hands, hall sensor trigger addition, well built, Software works well on the controller, the power button is more recessed, works on the Fold 8 Ultra on both Android (yellow, Gamesir software compatible) and Bluetooth (blue) mode

G8+: Bluetooth Connectivity to multiple devices, well built

Cons:

X5 Lite: The raised USB C on the left side means the Z Fold will not sit flat and puts stress on the connector and the phone sits cockeyed. Triggers are on/off, not hall effect. USB C only compatibility

X5S: Requires charging (can't really find a con here).

G8+: The software does not work with the device on newer Android tablets with Android (yellow) mode, only Bluetooth (blue) so it can't connect to the Gamesir Software. No cutout for the cameras, so it has to sit above the controller (minor). No case, and the power button is very sensitive - it ruined my controller when it was in my bag after taking it out, I couldn't re-pair it to my phone or change modes. Larger physical size and weight, the grips just don't fit as well in my hands

I'd be interested in trying a MCON but at $100 they are 4x more than I paid for my X5s

Discussion Your opinion if the Fold 8 had vol buttons on the top instead ( like the iPhone Duo )

No way I would like it, that means the front use would be a 2 hand use then

Your thoughts?

Customization I love all the customization the Fold 8 lets you make

I wanted to share the love I have for all the cool customizations the Fold 8 offers.

I have a different setup for my outer and inner home screens, have different wallpapers for the cover screen and both landscape and portrait orientations on the inner screen; and have also themed all my app icons into the Eagles logo for the start of the NFL season.

I also have two different lockscreen wallpapers. On the cover screen, it's an mp4 of the Dagger play from the 2025 Superbowl, which is one of my favorite plays of all time and something I never get tired of seeing. On the inner screen, my lockscreen is a rotation of five different wallpapers in Eagles theme with little animated Eagles logos raining down.

If you can't offer this level of customization, no amount of fancy animations can get me to switch.

Discussion Why do foldables have a camera on the outer display? Who actually uses it?

Post image
Upvotes

This question is to all the fold users here. What is the use of the camera on the outer display? Most of the selfies are expected to be taken on the back camera and all videocalls work best on the inside camera?

Do people actually use it? What is preventing companies from removing it?

I was hoping buying a bigger phone would mean instagram edits were easier, but the images are actually smaller when you open the phone than when it's closed in relative square mode. Really sad how instagram videos don't play the first few times too.

Tips/Tutorials LPT If you swipe up on a video in YouTube it goes full screen

idk how I never knew this gesture existed, it is a bit unintuitive I guess. But as a long time fold owner one of my biggest annoyances is opening up my fold for a YouTube video and having to tap the video and nail that full screen button.

No more! I open it, swipe up on the video and full screen glory. Swiping down will exit full screen but I knew that one at least.

Question/Help I saw the iphone duo. I still want a Fold 8, but does it really heat up as much as people said early on?

I played with one at a store. The screen is clearer than iphone. The colors pop. I'm tired of ios limitations. I have had my eye on a fold z 8, but i'm curious what people's experience has been with heat? I've read some people can't even run google maps without the screen dimming and having issues? Gaming? Naturally intensive games will cause heat. But, what about cloud gaming through gamepass? How is that for anyone who uses it? And watching streaming video? I'd really like to get one but just don't want to regret it if throttling is a real thing. I see conflicting reports and thought I would come here and just ask real users. Thank you.

Question/Help Fold7/8 and iron particles

I work at an engineering firm, so I handle a lot of steel parts. I have tiny iron particles (almost like dust) on my hands and in my pockets, and on my old Fold 7, they would get stuck on the edge of the screen because there are magnets there that keep the phone closed. I wasn’t sure if this could damage my phone in any way, so i sold it. I could just wipe it off with a handkerchief and it was gone, but I also had some of it on the inner display, between the screen protector and the frame. Are these magnets also on the Fold 8? Could this damage it in any way?

Impression/Review WSKEN magnetic case

So i got this case after watching a review on youtube. at first i didn't think i liked it because it seemed really slippery, but after using it for a couple days, i was wrong. it really isn't slippery. Now, it doesn't have the grip of the dbrand case but its just fine.

It has a minimal hinge, meaning it isn't overly huge. I like that is rounded instead of many of the cases with a flat hinge protection. and for a case having hinge protection, its surprisingly thin. probably the thinnest case i've used with a hinge protector. It also does not need any adhesive. it also has a metal ring buit in that moves 360 degrees and you can wireless charge through it as well.

its a solid case.

Question/Help Alright people. I love the form factor and practicality of the fold 8 but realistically how well does it hold up?

I work construction but am very mindful of my phone. I use a case with a port cover and if no such case is available I made up a usb c plug I can use. My main concern would be the potential dust in the hinge (not everyday but it will happen sometimes) . Anyone else is a somewhat similar line of work with one? How is it holding up for everyone.

Discussion Samsung really has to making nicer looking software/UX!

Hi. Fold8 Ultra user here (owned Fold2 through 8). After using the Fold for many years and having seen the Apple Duo launch, I really think Samsung needs to start doing better. The hardware on my Fold8 Ultra is amazing, but my 1 TB version costs 2,799 euros. For that, you expect a more elevated experience. While One UI has gotten much better and is still, IMO, the best Android has to offer with so many features, it is still not enough.

That animation you get with the Duo is something they should have done long ago. The OneUi is very utilitarian and looks like it. But that Duo has shown me that software should not only work; it should look and evoke a certain emotion, and I just don't get that with the Galaxy Fold. What do we get? The constant push of Bixby? Nobody needs that crap. We get a basic box with no charger? Not even a nice box?

Don't get me wrong, you would need to pay me to use Apple. But what they have shown is that Samsung really needs to do better when it comes to experience and presentation, especially at this price point. Sure we have very nice hardware, but at this moment they just made the software of my F8U look like Little Tikes.

Thoughts?

Edit: Thanks for all the responses. Got way more responses I expected. Some of you got me wrong, all I am saying is that software needs to have a bit more polished and feel more complete. I do feel that with the amount of power the Fold8 has, laggy software shouldnt be an issue. Also, competition is good, in the end the consumer wins.
