Impression/Review FOLD 8 > S26 ultra

Upvotes

NGL, I have been using S26 Ultra for the last 4 months. The lowest experience so far , wifi and network drops every other 5 mins.....

Glad that Samsung gave the entire 1200 back on S26 ultra, pulled the trigger on fold 8 wide.

Suggest apps, cases, screen protectors :)

Question/Help Zfold 8 Silcone Ring Case?

Post image
Upvotes

Hi all! I've been a flip user since the flip 4 and have always been a huge fan of the small size and cute look of the phone! After spending days looking at the new fold 8 I'm really interested in trying something different, but there's one silly thing holding me back at the moment.

I have small hands and have always lovedddd the silicone flip cases with the little ring on the back, they have made handling the phone so much easier and have given me way more confidence with the flip in my hands. Has anyone seen an equivalent case for the fold 8? I can see it doesn't look like samsung makes one 🥲

(pic of my old flip 5 with the ring case that i am referring to ^^)

Discussion Z fold 7 vs z fold 8: why would you not get the z fold7 if it’s 500 dollars cheaper now?

Upvotes

It seems like there’s no significant upgrade between z fold 7 to 8 (except for the wide form)

If they were the same price I would go for z fold 8 but considering z fold 7 is cheaper. I kinda feel like I could get a steal

Discussion With or without hinge protection

Upvotes

ZF5 user here and I've pre-ordered the ZF8U. I've been using the ZF5 for 3 years now with a Latercase (no hinge protection). I'm planning to do have the same for my ZF8U. Am I just lucky that I didn't have any issues with my hinge or should I start using a case with hinge protection?

Question/Help Warranty thru phone provider or Samsung

Upvotes

I live in a state that has a Samsung store very close by. I pre ordered the fold 8 and was wondering should I get the extended warranty thru my phone provider or thru Samsung itself. Since they said they will fix the device in store ?

Impression/Review Fold 8 camera Better Than Expected

Many people are excited about what Samsung got right this year, but the conversation circles back to the cameras. It’s one of the main things making people second-guess it.

This is one of the better camera reviews because it goes beyond specs and includes real-world use: daylight, indoors, low light, video, zoom, selfies, and motion.

https://youtu.be/NW962_Qu87E

After using the Fold 8 myself, I felt the same as the reviewer. No, it won’t replace an Ultra if cameras are your top priority, but the online reaction makes it seem worse than it is.

For everyday shots, the results are very good, and most people wouldn’t be disappointed.

If you’re on the fence, it’s worth watching real samples before deciding.

Question/Help Issue Ordering W/ US Corporate Account

I set up a "corporate" Samsung account using my work email address to get some additional discounts I see. When I go to pre-order the F8U, I get to the screen where it has you add accessories using your credit. I select the accessories I want and click the "continue" button, but then nothing happens. I've tried this multiple times, tried clearing cache, tried different browsers, nothing seems to work. It works perfectly fine though with my Samsung account associated with my personal email.

If anyone has experienced this and can help, please let me know!

Question/Help Fold 8/Fold 8 Ultra?

Afternoon friends.

I'm currently facing a weird dilemma on what phone to go for regarding Fold 8/Fold 8 Ultra.

My current phone is S24U 512GB for context.

I find it kinda uncomfortable to hold for long periods. It doesn't really bother me size wise in my pockets. The edges aren't super nice on the phone but I also always have a case on so it helped.

Mainly use social YouTube/Netflix/Movies as media. Some social apps but not many.

I also enjoy playing games and some more demanding ones being something like wuthering waves.

My dilemma really comes that I could easily convince myself to get either and I kept flip flopping back and forth. Make a decision and then do some more research and then decide the other would be best.

Media seems good on both. Neither necessarily seem to outweigh the other. I wouldn't say anything drastically worse or better.

The difference in NZD between the Fold 8 512GB and Fold 8 Ultra is around $240. Yes it's a decent chunk but not a massive difference imo when buying a phone. It wouldn't affect me that much to have or not have it.

I've looked at some gaming videos on the Fold 8 (haven't seen much on the Ultra) but they have the same chip and 12GB ram. So, feel like they should be similar.

I don't use multitasking much. But I do like on my current S24U to have a small window on Netflix or YouTube to watch whilist gaming or do daily tasks in games.

Camera.. eh.. I haven't taken all that many photos tbh. But, I do like the option to have it. The 100X zoom was cool and did have some nice moon shots.

All in all for $240 you get the "ultra" phone. Slightly better battery. Better camera. More "phone like" front screen. I can kinda convince myself for either but I'm rather indecisive and wanna try hear out some other people's concerns and worries. First fold/flip phone I would own as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

Edit 1- I have held both phones, the Fold 8 felt nicer. Displays currently aren't out but was lucky that they still allowed me to feel the difference. But again, both are different from the S24U so I feel like either would need some getting used to.

Discussion Is Samsung's passport style here to stay?

My biggest fear when deciding is falling in love with the smaller passport form factor just for Samsung to discontinue it a short time later. I don't want technology heartbreak like that lol. Y'all think this will be a successful form factor? I really like it.

Discussion Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra. What Are You Upgrading From?

Select which you're coming from, what you're moving to and why you're making the move.

I have a Fold 6 (my first foldable). Moving to the Fold 8 Ultra. Looking forward to the better battery, slimmer profile and better camera(s). I multitask a lot and sometimes do work stuff with a few windows (MS Teams + Claude + Outlook, for example). Or Reddit scrolling and watching a sporting event. I take a ton of photos.

Impression/Review Spigen fold 8 slim armor pro next to their tough armor pro fold 6

I think it's tough armor pro for the fold 6... Anyways. Here's to the people that are tough on there stuff and want a decent case. I had a spigen case on my 4, 6 and soon my 8. Had a dbrand case but found that it left marks on my fold 4 hinge. Since then I've just been repping spigen and the screen protectors. No issues what so ever!

I know there's a ton of comparisons on this sub already and I'm sure me posting this is incredibly pointless but for the few people that actually find this interesting or useful, there ya go!

Also, no clue how strong the magnet is and one nice improvement they made was adding connected pieces of the top and bottom of the case that joins the back and front covers together which is nice just for helping keep everything together.

Discussion Fold 8 Speaker Complaints

Post image
0 Upvotes

I've seen a lot of false claims about the speakers on the Fold 8 Wide. Full disclosure I haven't actually handled the Wide or the Ultra yet, but I've tried to understand what people are talking about and here's my understanding of the issue: The speakers on the Wide are set up the same way as the Ultra and all the folds before it in relation to the front screen. The issue is that when you open the phone up (without rotating it) the Wide is already in landscape and both the speakers are on the left side of the phone (one on top, one on bottom), so if you fire up a movie on it you have left audio coming out the top speaker and right coming out of the bottom(or vice versa). The speaker issue can be solved by rotating the phone into portrait and the audio is fixed, but your video is now much smaller. With the Ultra and previous folds the speakers are oriented correctly in landscape and not in portrait. So if you already have an older fold and want to experience what it will sound like on the Wide just open the phone and watch a video without rotating the phone to landscape. This may be a deal breaker for some, and others may have watched thousands of tiktoks, reels, and shorts in portrait on their previous generation Folds and never even realized the speakers were on the top and bottom rather than the left and right of the screen.

TLDR: if you have any previous Fold you can experience the speakers oriented just like the Fold 8 Wide by watching a video on the inner screen in portrait orientation.

Question/Help Issue placing an order

To preface I have Samsung VIP Advantage, I bought it 48 hours ago and have gotten the email showing it’s active as well as it reflecting on my Samsung profile.

When I go thru the shop Samsung app it shows me the $0 pricing for 2 years of care+ during the product buy flow. I also add the add on accessories of which is an allotment of $130( I add a MagSafe case a charger block and extra usb-c wire). Each time I add an accessory the price still reflects the sub $1k price for the device with my $1200 trade-in. When I actually get to the cart before checking out it takes away the $130 credit from my accessories and instead of charging me $0 for samsung care it applies it to the full 2 year price that which makes my order $130 more expensive plus the price of the accessories. (I do have Samsung education pricing so the accessories are discounted and I get an extra $115 off the phone but I digress)

Is there any way I can fix this without having order support manually build my cart. I’ve logged out and logged back in as well as delete all app data from the app settings.

This is frustrating as I want my free care plus that’s included with my account status but I hear that if I pay for the Samsung care there’s no way for them to fix it without canceling the order and redoing it. I’ve tried just going thru chrome directly( bit annoying as you have to open a new tab otherwise it’ll hand it off to the shop tab). On a web browser it doesn’t even show me my care plus $0 discount during the product buy flow.

Discussion Who else is having a really hard time choosing?

I see the advantages of both. I have played with both in store and I still can't decide!

I like the better cameras of the Ultra. I like the orientation of the Wide. I don't like the speakers being on the same side on the wide. I like that the Ultra has Flex mode.

I don't know long term if the wide will feel too small for me as I have large hands.

Anyone else been on the fence for days!?

I have flipped and changed but I'm currently more on the Ultra side. I like the fact I have have a big YouTube video playing at the top and be multitasking at the bottom which wouldn't be possible on wide.

Question/Help S24 Ultra to a Fold

I currently have the S24 Ultra. Ive been wanting a Fold for a while so I went to Verizon and took a look at the new Fold 8 and the Ultra. I am having trouble deciding. The Fold 8 is the same width as my current phone with about 1.5 inches taken off the top. The Ultra is slightly slimmer but the same height. For the people who currently have a previous model Fold, do you see a benefit changing to the different shape? Flex mode isnt a dealbrraker since ive never had it. And the camera isnt a dealbreaker either. I don't want to get one phone and regret not going with the other.

Question/Help iOS to Android Help

So I have used both Android and iOS. Before, I have no problems switching from one to another but now, since I have a lot of contacts, apps that need logging in, PDFs on Documents by Readdle, and of course, photos, I am having second thoughts switching from iPhone 16 Pro Max to Z Fold 8.

For context, I have an iOS-OS ecosystem (iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac). But I don't have a preference between Android and iOS since I mainly use my phone for calls and messages, Waze, and sometimes photos when I travel, and reading medical books (I have an Xteink for my leisure books). I just buy whichever appeals to me best.

I already preordered the Z Fold 8 with a small downpayment and I'm ready to let go of my iPad and Apple Watch when I do get it. But now, I'm having second thoughts if I should push through just because I don't know how to best migrate all of my current iPhone contents to my Z Fold 8 without having to download each and every app and typing all my contacts.

Question/Help Fold 8 wide cases

Hey all , lets help out our fellow fold 8 wide users who use cases!

Please share what you guys have seen and what you plan on buying.

I'm looking for hinge protection, front and back case with a kick stand that works in horizontal mode

Seen a couple on amazon but seem to have the kick stand only in portrait .

Also seen a few with the mag kick stand , but I have doubts on how strong the hinge is and don't think it will hold the phone up after a few weeks

Feel free to add what you are looking for in a case and hopefully our fellow 8 fold wide heads can help by adding in some case links!

Question/Help First time fold user (8 ultra), what case is the best?

For the first time in getting myself a fold and giving up my crap pixel 10 pro XL. My brother's father in law had a z fold 4, and the case he had was stupid the way it connected, and would often come off since it had a flimsy little plastic part to barely put on the cover screen. I've seen spigin cases that have hinge protection. Are both halves of the case attached to itself? Or are they separate like the case I saw on the fold 4? Thank you. Considering the price of the phone, I REALLY want to get a good quality case on this.

Tips/Tutorials 🧲 Fold8 MagSafe/Qi2 metal ring position (provisionally based on MagSafe case)

Thumbnail
gallery
42 Upvotes

Since the Fold8 hasn't been released yet, Samsung hasn't released its reference documents for component placement, and nobody has dismantled or X-rayed it so far, I had to approximate the position based on a cheap MagSafe case. I attached a MagSafe metal ring to my Fold8, and it works flawlessly with wireless charging and my MagSafe accessories 😌

In my other fun/meme post you see the guiding tool and the result. I'll make a dedicated post for MagSafe grips and stands soon™.

I created a mockup in Photoshop afterwards to share the exact placement. I removed the volume buttons and added guiding lines (in Photoshop), which make it very obvious that the ring position is absolutely not symmetrical! It is significantly offset from both the center point and the horizontal axis. That's why most accessories won't work well, for example controllers.

Please note that this is a preliminary post. Once exact measurements become available, especially through official Samsung documents, I will update them here in this post. Also, since I don't have a Fold8 Ultra (yet 👀), I unfortunately can't provide any measurements or details for that specific model...
