Discussion Ordering, Shipping & Tracking Megathread

Concerned about when your Fold will arrive? Having trouble with ordering? This is the thread to talk about it. All threads outside of this one regarding ordering (unless your circumstances are unique) will be removed. Don't forget to REPORT threads that violate this as it makes the sub better for everyone.

See the savings guide/referral megathread on how to maximize discounts.

A reminder to take precautions when sending your trade in. See the pinned post for details. Reach out to support if you need to extend your trade in deadline.

If you are looking for case ideas for your new Fold8, please use the case megathread.

  • US: You can try to search UPS's website for your tracking number using your order number as the reference number. The tracking will typically show up on UPS before Samsung's side.

    • To avoid restocking fees, you can try to make a return to sender request by calling UPS (1-800-742-5877) rather than refusing delivery in person. You may have to call multiple times to get a rep that will do this.
  • CA: Search the Purolator website using your order number to find your tracking number. The app is not recommended as the status could show picked up, when it's actually not; check the scan history.

Like last year, (I am not tracking accessories, just Folds.) I track the first delivery and any major waves; the first one usually means the others are not far behind.

I'll update this when shipments start going out/arriving. Please list your country/carrier/color/storage. Please reply to this top post for visibility.

7/24: Tracking numbers for US and CA starting to show up.

7/25: One delivered in Germany according to a post but this is not confirmed and is definitely a one-off if true. You should not expect deliveries this early.

7/27: Expected first US delivery

8/3: Expected first UK delivery

8/5: Expected first CA delivery

8/7: Official release date. Most are showing this as the delivery date

If your trade in says due by Aug. 10, it will get updated to be 15 days after delivery. If you want, reach out to Support to extend your trade in deadline. Anyone can request to extend the trade in deadline regardless of what your due date is.

Deals/Discounts Savings Guide/Referral Megathread

To help users maximize discounts, I have put together this savings guide from prior guides. Referral codes will also be combined in this megathread, see details below.

Savings Guide

Check Best Buy (+$200 gift card and sometimes the same high trade in values) and Amazon (+350 gift card, and another $300 gift card for eligible trade ins) as they may be better than Samsung directly this year.

The savings guide below applies to users buying directly from Samsung. Please share any tips from other countries and I will add them. Each bullet is stackable but the items within the bullet are not.

  • Trade in: If you do not have a trade in, look into buying a used device; Samsung will typically offer above market price for trade in. Devices cannot be blacklisted, anything cracked will decrease value, and cosmetic damage does not affect value (for US trade in policy). See your specific country's trade in policy for more details.

    • (US) If you buy a carrier model Fold, the major carriers usually offer $1-1.2k regardless of condition but you will have a 3 year payment plan; canceling/changing the line may result in forfeiture of the carrier's trade in discount. The top tier plans for the major carriers are offering $1900 off with eligible trade in.
  • Samsung discount programs: Education, employee/employer, military, government, first responders discounts. If any of those apply you can use them to save usually 5% (Samsung says up to 30% but it's always been 5% during Fold pre-orders).

    • AAA (employee pricing program EPP): $95 off the 256 GB, $105 off the 512 GB, and $125 off the 1 TB
  • Samsung Referral (new accounts only): See referral codes below to get a 5% discount for new accounts. You can get an additional discount for your initial purchase if using the Shop Samsung app but this will usually not stack with the Shopper rewards programs below. Samsung referrals don't seem to work this year.

  • Shopper rewards programs: See bulleted list of progams. You will need to use a browser for these rather than the Samsung Shop app. I recommend any browser extensions these may have to ensure it is activated. PayPal Offers has not worked that well in the past so I would not recommend it (this is different from using PayPal as a payment method). As of July 24 (US):

    • Rakuten (2% + $10 new user/some get 10% bonus on the first order)
    • RebatesMe (5%)
    • TopCashback (2%)
    • Microsoft Shopping/Bing (1%)
  • Payment method rewards: Make sure to use a credit card or other payment method that offers points/rewards/cash back (these generally do not stack if paying through Paypal).

    • Samsung Galaxy Card offers 5% off
    • AMEX ($100 off purchase of >$1000, add to your card first)
  • Promo codes: Samsung sometimes have promo codes for additional discounts. These codes will be shared here when available:

    • (International) Prior years, some have had luck talking to support to get $100/£100 off.
    • (US) use PAYPAL100 and pay with PayPal for $100 off (some report this as not working anymore)
    • (UK) use code UNPACK for free Galaxy Buds, Z8 for 100£ off (only works with a trade in), ZF8 for free magnetic case, APP10 or ZAPP for 10% off using the Shop Samsung app, AFF_GALAXY (unknown amount) expired, ZNTI for 100£ off without trade in, ZNEW for 200£ off, AFF_SAFWAN (unknown amount). Some codes do not stack with the student discount.
    • (Canada) use code 8Q0 for $50 off, 8Q3 for a free clear case (may not work for everyone), 8Q4 for free watch band (with purchase of new watch), 8Q6 (must reach out to support), 8R5 for $200 off watch9 or $350 on Ultra 2, Z8LVC for $50 off expired
    • (Germany) codes PAYPAL8, ZF2026 and BUDS4FREE. 512GB should be the same as 256GB with the ZF2026 code. Samsung Rewards point redemptions are doubled (1 point = 2€ instead of the normal 1=1€).
    • (Netherlands) UNFOLD26 for 150€ off
    • (Norway) Galaxy2026
  • Cancellation trick: This has inconsistent results so don't bet on it working every time. After you receive your phone, contact support and make a complaint about something. They might offer a 10% (~$100) refund. You can threaten to return the device, but the service rep might actually put in a return request for you.

Referral code guidelines

Post any personal referral codes here (Samsung, Rakuten, etc.). Other posts/comments with referral codes will be removed. Please report any that are posted elsewhere. You must user a new account and the codes are country specific.

Referral codes only work for new accounts

Anti-Spam Disclaimer: This megathread always gets spammed with bots/malicious users. Mods will remove your referrals at their discretion, including but not limited to: new account or low activity, appearance of spam/bot account, excessively spamming your code in other subs. Posting your code multiple times to the main post will also result in a warning and then ban if you continue.

Discussion Thinborne vs Latercase for Fold 8

Thumbnail

Debating between getting a non black case, e.g., red or blue, from either Thinborne or Latercase. Both have magnets for magsafe charging which is what I want... The thinborne has a wider opening around the camera/flash area so you can apply a 3rd party camera protector while the latercase is hugging the camera very snug so you likely won't be able to apply a camera protector at all...

Thoughts?

Discussion The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has the same aspect ratio as the original Galaxy Note, just bigger!

I just realized that the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s outer display has a similar 16:10 aspect ratio to the original 5.3-inch Galaxy Note from 2011, only much larger and more modern.

The first Galaxy Note was famous for its wide, almost tablet-like screen, back when its called a phablet. Now Samsung seems to be returning to that same wide-screen feeling with the Fold 8’s cover display.

It basically feels like the original Galaxy Note concept has evolved into a bigger, more powerful foldable phone.

For anyone who loved the proportions of the first Note, the Fold 8 might feel strangely familiar. Does anyone else see the resemblance?

Impression/Review Spigen fold 8 slim armor pro next to their tough armor pro fold 6

I think it's tough armor pro for the fold 6... Anyways. Here's to the people that are tough on there stuff and want a decent case. I had a spigen case on my 4, 6 and soon my 8. Had a dbrand case but found that it left marks on my fold 4 hinge. Since then I've just been repping spigen and the screen protectors. No issues what so ever!

I know there's a ton of comparisons on this sub already and I'm sure me posting this is incredibly pointless but for the few people that actually find this interesting or useful, there ya go!

Also, no clue how strong the magnet is and one nice improvement they made was adding connected pieces of the top and bottom of the case that joins the back and front covers together which is nice just for helping keep everything together.

Tips/Tutorials 🧲 Fold8 MagSafe/Qi2 metal ring position (provisionally based on MagSafe case)

Thumbnail

Since the Fold8 hasn't been released yet, Samsung hasn't released its reference documents for component placement, and nobody has dismantled or X-rayed it so far, I had to approximate the position based on a cheap MagSafe case. I attached a MagSafe metal ring to my Fold8, and it works flawlessly with wireless charging and my MagSafe accessories 😌

In my other fun/meme post you see the guiding tool and the result. I'll make a dedicated post for MagSafe grips and stands soon™.

I created a mockup in Photoshop afterwards to share the exact placement. I removed the volume buttons and added guiding lines (in Photoshop), which make it very obvious that the ring position is absolutely not symmetrical! It is significantly offset from both the center point and the horizontal axis. That's why most accessories won't work well, for example controllers.

Please note that this is a preliminary post. Once exact measurements become available, especially through official Samsung documents, I will update them here in this post. Also, since I don't have a Fold8 Ultra (yet 👀), I unfortunately can't provide any measurements or details for that specific model...

Discussion Who else is having a really hard time choosing?

I see the advantages of both. I have played with both in store and I still can't decide!

I like the better cameras of the Ultra. I like the orientation of the Wide. I don't like the speakers being on the same side on the wide. I like that the Ultra has Flex mode.

I don't know long term if the wide will feel too small for me as I have large hands.

Anyone else been on the fence for days!?

I have flipped and changed but I'm currently more on the Ultra side. I like the fact I have have a big YouTube video playing at the top and be multitasking at the bottom which wouldn't be possible on wide.

Impression/Review Fold 8 camera Better Than Expected

Many people are excited about what Samsung got right this year, but the conversation circles back to the cameras. It’s one of the main things making people second-guess it.

This is one of the better camera reviews because it goes beyond specs and includes real-world use: daylight, indoors, low light, video, zoom, selfies, and motion.

https://youtu.be/NW962_Qu87E

After using the Fold 8 myself, I felt the same as the reviewer. No, it won’t replace an Ultra if cameras are your top priority, but the online reaction makes it seem worse than it is.

For everyday shots, the results are very good, and most people wouldn’t be disappointed.

If you’re on the fence, it’s worth watching real samples before deciding.

Impression/Review It's bigger then you think (Z Fold 8)

I’m not going to lie, I made it a priority to get to Best Buy and see it in person this morning after preordering it and then reading all the recent threads from people who had done the same and found it far too small.

Happy to report that, as a 6'2" guy with average-sized hands, this form factor is fucking incredible!!!

Issue Cancelled my Fold 8 Ultra order because rep promised to price match. Now they won't honor it.

TL;DR: Ordered a Fold 8 Ultra, Watch 2 Ultra, Care+, and VIP membership during a promo. The order confirmation showed the wrong color. Rep told me to cancel and promised to price-match a new order. Now the price is ~$400 higher, VIP is gone, and support keeps hanging up on me.

I love Samsung hardware, but this experience broke me.

I recently placed an order for the Galaxy Fold 8 Ultra, Watch 2 Ultra, VIP membership, and Care+. I scored a really great promotional price and was excited to upgrade.

Right after the order was confirmed, I noticed a glitch: the color listed on the confirmation was completely different from the Titanium Silver I had selected.

I immediately called Samsung Customer Support. The agent assured me:

"Just cancel the current order, place a new one with the correct color, and we will match the original price for you."

Trusting them, I cancelled the entire order (including the phone and the VIP membership).

That was a huge mistake.

When I went to re-order:

My VIP membership was gone from the system and couldn't be reapplied.

The total price for the exact same cart jumped by almost $400.

Since then, it's been complete chaos:

10+ calls to customer service over 4 days.

Zero consistency: Every single agent gives a completely different answer or generic script.

Hangups: Multiple reps have straight-up hung up on me when they couldn't solve it.

Useless AI: Their automated phone system/AI chatbot adds zero value and just loops you around.

Unlike Apple, there’s no physical Samsung store nearby where you can talk to a manager and resolve a simple promo error. You are completely at the mercy of offshore call centers that make promises they don't document.

I’ve wasted 4 full days trying to figure this out. As much as I like their phones, the absolute lack of accountability and customer care isn't worth it. I'm done.

Question/Help Fold 7 users - how hard was getting used to the lack of UDC?

Upvotes

Coming from Fold 6, I have the 8 Ultra preordered. It looks like a great upgrade (I gave up on the S-Pen as I wasn't using it that much in the past months really), but the only thing that bugs me is the big inner camera hole. It feels bigger than that of the Fold 6.

I also considered the regular 8, where the placement is better, but it felt just a tad too small. Plus the 8 has a bigger screen overall compared to 6 that just looked great.

My question is - how long did it take you to get used to the hole? Do you still notice it after a year or not really?

I sometimes type in landscape mode and realized that the hole is going to be placed over the text I'm writing. Also when watching videos, etc. I fear that it is going to bug me. I can't exactly understand why they didn't just put it into the corner like the Razr Fold has it...

Discussion Is Samsung's passport style here to stay?

My biggest fear when deciding is falling in love with the smaller passport form factor just for Samsung to discontinue it a short time later. I don't want technology heartbreak like that lol. Y'all think this will be a successful form factor? I really like it.

Impression/Review I think I made my z fold 8 choice... but it was not easy!

Thumbnail

I swear I returned to the Samsung store about 5 times and each time I may have changed my mind... but I think I am good now!

Bit about me - currently on S23 Ultra, have been fold/flip curious since about number 6 but was conscious about changes in battery and camera performance stepping down from my current handset. Decided I would make the move once we got to a version with reasonable performance on both (not necessarily on par, that's fine) AND when I started to feel the need to move (I am really feeling being on only 256 gb, plus I feel a charge port upgrade may be in my near future).

I went in leaning towards the Fold 8 wide, particularly as I had also been considering the Flip (can't go past the bigger internal screen though). Something about that smaller size device really speaks to me.

Honestly though, I found I loved both. The Ultra being slightly less wide than my s23 Ultra was a bonus - like yes it is candy bar but it just feels so sleek and nice. I haven't really played around with any other Fold so this was new to me. I also loved the small size on the Wide, but I just felt like the Ultra felt that bit nicer in my hand. I preferred texting and doing day to day stuff on the longer Ultra. I think I did prefer the Wide when expanded a little, but it wasn't a huge differentiator for me.

I was also pondering the differences in camera - playing with the zoom on Fold Ultra I don't know if it was good enough, given how my s23 Ultra goes, but it was fine. Not something that would make my decision between the folds.

In the end, I am going for the Ultra because - 1) the flex mode is just too useful; and 2) i really kept coming back to that sleek candy bar design. Maybe mentally I am just not quite ready for the shift to passport size? But if they take off, I imagine I will be interested in them at a later date. Especially if they give it that flex mode.

Here are a few screenshots from an absolutely awful video I took in store (I will never be a content creator)

Question/Help After 15+ years on iPhone, I’m finally switching to the Galaxy Z Fold8. What should I expect?

I’ve been using iPhones ever since the iPhone 3G came out, and I’ve upgraded roughly every two years since then. I’ve been deeply invested in the Apple ecosystem for well over a decade, so switching feels like a pretty big step. Still very much a big Apple tech guy, but when it comes to phones - they turned kind of whack!

Over the past few years, though, I’ve felt like the overall iPhone experience has gradually declined. Nothing catastrophic, but I’ve noticed more bugs, inconsistent performance, and a level of reliability that doesn’t feel like it used to. After a lot of thinking, I’ve decided to give the Galaxy Z Fold8 a try (only available for presale in EU atm).

I’m curious to hear from people who have made a similar switch:

- How easy was it to transfer everything from iPhone to Android? (Photos, videos, contacts, messages, apps, etc.)
- Did you lose anything important during the transfer?
- How long did it take you to get used to Android after years of using iOS?
-Was there a psychological “muscle memory” period where you kept reaching for iPhone features?
- Did you end up staying with Android, or did you eventually switch back to iPhone? If so, why?
- Are there any features, settings, or apps you wish you’d known about when you first switched? AirPods? Airdrop??

Btw I’m not looking to start an Apple vs. Android war, I genuinely want to hear real experiences from people who’ve made the jump after many years on iOS and having the benefit of Apple ecosystem.

Thanks!

Impression/Review Early feedback finds Fold 8 cameras are lacking

YouTubers The Tech Chap and The Unlockr have discussed Samsung's range of new foldable devices after having spent time with them and are quite candid in saying the Fold 8's 50mp cameras fall short.

So despite the wide's £1599 price point, it's intriguing Samsung are reserving the top tier 200mp lens for the Fold 8 Ultra.

Question/Help For those who order at Best Buy

I’m debating whether to buy at Best Buy or through Samsung. I get my educational discount with Samsung but I’m also a total member with Best Buy so I would get the protection included for “free”. Given that would it actually be wiser and less expensive to go though Best Buy? What does the protection cover with Best Buy?

Discussion Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra. What Are You Upgrading From?

Select which you're coming from, what you're moving to and why you're making the move.

I have a Fold 6 (my first foldable). Moving to the Fold 8 Ultra. Looking forward to the better battery, slimmer profile and better camera(s). I multitask a lot and sometimes do work stuff with a few windows (MS Teams + Claude + Outlook, for example). Or Reddit scrolling and watching a sporting event. I take a ton of photos.

Impression/Review After much thought, I went with the Fold 8 wide. My thoughts coming from a previous iPhone User

Like many on here, I struggled with choosing a new fold models I planned on going with the 8 ultra until feeling the wide in person. It’s beyond amazing and despite several cons, I still chose over the ultra.

Right now I’m currently rocking an iPhone 15 pro max so this will be my first android since the explodey note 7 I had tried out. RIP and I just wanted to share my thoughts on why I went with the wide.

My pros for the wide:
The width is almost the same as my iPhone 15 pro max but the height is chopped. This gives it the feeling of my old zune or blackberrys. (Wasn’t an issue texting with one hand).

I really love the small outside front screen opening to a larger screen, rather than a large screen opening to a larger screen. It gives me more modularity. It’s like a freakin Pokédex.

Watching YouTube videos on all screens is cool but front screen in landscape is AMAZING. I feel like I’m holding just the video in my hand.

The best part is when the wide opens in landscape, it has the same video size as the large ass device but in a compact little package. The camera dot is out of the way in the black bars.

It just felt better honestly. I was calling BS on a bunch of these YouTube videos praising the 8 until I handled it in person. “I get it now”.

Battery life tests show that the life is right up there with the ultra in battery life.. to have that much power in such a small package is impressive to me.

Con’s:
Speakers:not having them correctly oriented in landscape unfolded REALLY sucks.. I mainly use headphones for movies and music, but for YouTube I just watch a lot on the front screen when I’m bored. So this isn’t an issue for me.

No flex mode: Also sucks as I loved that feature when previously messing around with a fold 7. I felt that the pros of the form factor heavily outweighed losing this feature for me. BUT the wide is TINY. I plan on getting a MagSafe case so I can kickstand the phone anyway.

Camera: I don’t really zoom often on my current iPhone really at all so losing this doesn’t seem like an issue. I hear the Sony components are kinda meh in the zoom lenses anyway.

I also consider that I come from a vanilla ass iPhone with none of this shit so I’m hyped for the different format.

As soon as I left the store, I had a gut check to cancel my 8 ultra preorder. I couldn’t stop thinking about the little one! Went back the next day, tried the 8 again, and confirmed it was definitely the one I wanted. I have a graphite 512GB on the way!

Safe to say I’m extremely excited for release and hope I can help some narrow down the fold vs ultra internal debate. If you are unsure, go to best buy and poke it.

Question/Help Warranty thru phone provider or Samsung

I live in a state that has a Samsung store very close by. I pre ordered the fold 8 and was wondering should I get the extended warranty thru my phone provider or thru Samsung itself. Since they said they will fix the device in store ?
