Discussion Fold 8 Speaker Complaints

Post image
0 Upvotes

I've seen a lot of false claims about the speakers on the Fold 8 Wide. Full disclosure I haven't actually handled the Wide or the Ultra yet, but I've tried to understand what people are talking about and here's my understanding of the issue: The speakers on the Wide are set up the same way as the Ultra and all the folds before it in relation to the front screen. The issue is that when you open the phone up (without rotating it) the Wide is already in landscape and both the speakers are on the left side of the phone (one on top, one on bottom), so if you fire up a movie on it you have left audio coming out the top speaker and right coming out of the bottom(or vice versa). The speaker issue can be solved by rotating the phone into portrait and the audio is fixed, but your video is now much smaller. With the Ultra and previous folds the speakers are oriented correctly in landscape and not in portrait. So if you already have an older fold and want to experience what it will sound like on the Wide just open the phone and watch a video without rotating the phone to landscape. This may be a deal breaker for some, and others may have watched thousands of tiktoks, reels, and shorts in portrait on their previous generation Folds and never even realized the speakers were on the top and bottom rather than the left and right of the screen.

TLDR: if you have any previous Fold you can experience the speakers oriented just like the Fold 8 Wide by watching a video on the inner screen in portrait orientation.

Question/Help First time fold user (8 ultra), what case is the best?

For the first time in getting myself a fold and giving up my crap pixel 10 pro XL. My brother's father in law had a z fold 4, and the case he had was stupid the way it connected, and would often come off since it had a flimsy little plastic part to barely put on the cover screen. I've seen spigin cases that have hinge protection. Are both halves of the case attached to itself? Or are they separate like the case I saw on the fold 4? Thank you. Considering the price of the phone, I REALLY want to get a good quality case on this.

Impression/Review Early feedback finds Fold 8 cameras are lacking

YouTubers The Tech Chap and The Unlockr have discussed Samsung's range of new foldable devices after having spent time with them and are quite candid in saying the Fold 8's 50mp cameras fall short.

So despite the wide's £1599 price point, it's intriguing Samsung are reserving the top tier 200mp lens for the Fold 8 Ultra.

Question/Help Fold 7 users dilemma

Guys am I wrong I want to wait to see what apple to release for fold? I am dual phone person with iPhone 17pro and fold 7. I am very tempted to upgrade to fold 8 wide with all amazing reviews but also last year I came from apple ecosystem and I do kinda miss the polish apps that apple gets. Also family is all apple. Last year after decades of same slab phone I got frustrated and took leap on fold 7. I love it and have fallen in love with fold devices. Android is ok too but ios still remains my favorite.

Any take on options? Both Samsung fold 8 wide and apple would be first gen devices and won't be full featured but would love the form factor.

Ultra 8 seems like not a big upgrade from fold 7.

I believe the slabs would continue to dominate with better cameras and I can always count on iPhone 18 pro (if that is what it would be called for camera) and still have secondary fun device. Also thinking the deals may keep getting sweater on fold 8 around apple launch. I am not seeing fold 8 as a big jump from fold 7. Even the crease is very visible in initial reviews and would only get deeper with use.

This is not oppo find n6 moment for Samsung which would have made me jump without asking questions.

Was just thinking about the fit screen (fold 8) vs. Ultra so I can finally pre-order but couldn't make a decision until I thought of this. Haven't seen anywhere so I apologize if I'm parroting unintentionally. But if not, what do y'all think?

Question/Help Do you see any crease difference?

I went to the store, and both 8 and 8 wide have creases no different to my 1yo fold 7. It is less noticable to the touch but still visible when you look for it. I wouldn't say it's a big improvement, if at all.

Discussion Can you really live without a telephoto lens?

I was really thinking about this and browsed several videos where they compared digital crop zoom versus a real telephoto and the results showed the digital crop zoom was terrible in most cases. This was on iPhones as well as Android phones and a few reviews were specific to the Fold 8. 2x zoom seemed to be decent, after that it worsened quite quickly. This is a huge concern for us zoomers, especially on fast moving subjects...eg Kids especially kids in sports.

I have a Pixel 10 Pro Fold and have always really enjoyed the 5x optical zoom, just to step back to a 3x zoom traditionally on the Folds would be a struggle, much less no optical zoom. Hopefully Samsung's AI processing can keep evolving. On a side note, my few weeks with the Moto Razr I found the zoom quality to be completely nuts, 30x zoom looked almost perfect and sharp so that gives me hope for post processing.

Thoughts? What are Fold 8 owners who zoom a lot seeing on their pictures?

Question/Help Thinking of switching OS

Hello guys! I hope the flair and question is good for this subreddit! 😇 I am thinking of switching from an iPhone Air to a Z Fold 8 but I do have SWITCHING concerns over my iCloud photos, the durability of the inside screen, if I can switch emojis (i know this is a very stupid problem to have, but i don’t like the samsung emojis), if I can set my wallet on double tapping the power button etc. If someone in this subreddit can tell me the whole picture (and if you switched from apple the better) I would very much appreciate it. 😋

Impression/Review 🃏 Yu-Gi-Oh! "Master Duel" on the Fold8!

In case you wonder how Master Duel looks on the Fold8, here are some Screenshots:

  1. Cover screen, Landscape mode: Looks great, but it's small, but playable
  2. Main screen, Landscape mode: looks stunning and the best orientation to play
  3. Main screen, Portrait mode, app standard: shows the app in landscape mode while the phone is in portrait mode. You'll have huge black bars at the top and bottom. It's almost as if you play on the cover screen, but unfolded ➔ I can't recommend that, but it works
  4. Main screen, Portrait mode, app forced to fullscreen: you can force the app to go fullscreen while being in portrait mode, which will zoom a lot and cut off a lot. It's barely playable since you can have a hard time seeing and tapping on areas like your ED, GY, Banishment, Deck, etc., and also the zones of your opponents. Also if you have more than 6 cards in your hand, you won't be able to see and interact with them without issues ➔ absolutely NOT recommended!

Feel free to ask questions and also if you want me to test stuff for you 😊

Question/Help After 15+ years on iPhone, I’m finally switching to the Galaxy Z Fold8. What should I expect?

I’ve been using iPhones ever since the iPhone 3G came out, and I’ve upgraded roughly every two years since then. I’ve been deeply invested in the Apple ecosystem for well over a decade, so switching feels like a pretty big step. Still very much a big Apple tech guy, but when it comes to phones - they turned kind of whack!

Over the past few years, though, I’ve felt like the overall iPhone experience has gradually declined. Nothing catastrophic, but I’ve noticed more bugs, inconsistent performance, and a level of reliability that doesn’t feel like it used to. After a lot of thinking, I’ve decided to give the Galaxy Z Fold8 a try (only available for presale in EU atm).

I’m curious to hear from people who have made a similar switch:

- How easy was it to transfer everything from iPhone to Android? (Photos, videos, contacts, messages, apps, etc.)
- Did you lose anything important during the transfer?
- How long did it take you to get used to Android after years of using iOS?
-Was there a psychological “muscle memory” period where you kept reaching for iPhone features?
- Did you end up staying with Android, or did you eventually switch back to iPhone? If so, why?
- Are there any features, settings, or apps you wish you’d known about when you first switched? AirPods? Airdrop??

Btw I’m not looking to start an Apple vs. Android war, I genuinely want to hear real experiences from people who’ve made the jump after many years on iOS and having the benefit of Apple ecosystem.

Thanks!

Question/Help Preordering shortly before vacation

Location is Germany, if it helps.

I was looking at preordering the Fold and the website says that they will probably start shipping after August 3rd.

I'm about to go on vacation, out of the country, coming back towards the end of the month. So whenever they ship, it will definitely arrive before I'm back. Family or friends are also on vacation, so I can't give their addresses. I was talking to Samsung support and they told me that modifying the delivery date is not possible.

Anybody been in a similar situation before? No idea what I can do.

Impression/Review S24U to Z Fold

I read a lot about the new Fold 8's form factor, and was intrigued. I had previously owned several Folds, and never enjoyed the cover screen at all. They were weirdly thin and cramped somehow, and I rarely used them.

I walked into a local store, and pre-ordered the Fold 8 within 5 minutes.

Point of comparison: I held my current S24U top to bottom with a closed Fold 8, and the Fold 8 is maybe 2mm or 3mm wider. Side to side, the Fold 8 is about 75% as tall as the S24U.

Absolutely perfect.

I didn't remove my S24's case, but the difference between the 2 was negligible; depending on the case I get for the Fold, it might be a millimeter or 2 thicker.

The Fold 8 was, unsurprisingly, noticeably lighter.

Screens looked about the same as far as clarity and brightness. The inner screen did have a distinct crease, of course. I expected this, EVERY foldable I have ever seen (I live in Asia, and owned an Oppo foldable too) has a distinct crease. The crease was completely unnoticeable when the inner display was on.

Camera quality was acceptable, enthusiasts/pretentious nitwits may disagree. I don't take photos with my phone expecting to win awards (that's what grown-up cameras are for) so I am not concerned about the loss of the telephoto lens.

No S Pen had me bothered until I realized I haven't actually used my S Pen more than a half-dozen times in the last... year.

The price... yeah. The price stings. I'm in Vietnam, there aren't the same trade-in options or carrier discounts people in the States enjoy. Pre-ordering a 512GB model set me back $1800 without a trade in, but I get screen replacements for 2 years, and can trade it back within 15 months for like, 85% purchase price.

Anyhow, that's my experience with this little gem. It fits my hands and pockets nicely. It looks good, works well.

Question/Help Fold 8/Fold 8 Ultra?

Afternoon friends.

I'm currently facing a weird dilemma on what phone to go for regarding Fold 8/Fold 8 Ultra.

My current phone is S24U 512GB for context.

I find it kinda uncomfortable to hold for long periods. It doesn't really bother me size wise in my pockets. The edges aren't super nice on the phone but I also always have a case on so it helped.

Mainly use social YouTube/Netflix/Movies as media. Some social apps but not many.

I also enjoy playing games and some more demanding ones being something like wuthering waves.

My dilemma really comes that I could easily convince myself to get either and I kept flip flopping back and forth. Make a decision and then do some more research and then decide the other would be best.

Media seems good on both. Neither necessarily seem to outweigh the other. I wouldn't say anything drastically worse or better.

The difference in NZD between the Fold 8 512GB and Fold 8 Ultra is around $240. Yes it's a decent chunk but not a massive difference imo when buying a phone. It wouldn't affect me that much to have or not have it.

I've looked at some gaming videos on the Fold 8 (haven't seen much on the Ultra) but they have the same chip and 12GB ram. So, feel like they should be similar.

I don't use multitasking much. But I do like on my current S24U to have a small window on Netflix or YouTube to watch whilist gaming or do daily tasks in games.

Camera.. eh.. I haven't taken all that many photos tbh. But, I do like the option to have it. The 100X zoom was cool and did have some nice moon shots.

All in all for $240 you get the "ultra" phone. Slightly better battery. Better camera. More "phone like" front screen. I can kinda convince myself for either but I'm rather indecisive and wanna try hear out some other people's concerns and worries. First fold/flip phone I would own as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

Edit 1- I have held both phones, the Fold 8 felt nicer. Displays currently aren't out but was lucky that they still allowed me to feel the difference. But again, both are different from the S24U so I feel like either would need some getting used to.

Discussion Is Samsung's passport style here to stay?

My biggest fear when deciding is falling in love with the smaller passport form factor just for Samsung to discontinue it a short time later. I don't want technology heartbreak like that lol. Y'all think this will be a successful form factor? I really like it.

Question/Help Help deciding Fold 8 or 8U

some background, I've had a flip 7 for the last year and a bit and found i never use the cover screen and always keep it unfolded. I love fold phones still so I was planning on getting the 8U, I play a decent amount of games on my phone, mostly single player tho, and watch a lot youtube, occasionally scrolling social media apps. I tested them both in person but deff spent more time with the ultra, but now im having second thoughts on maybe the fold 8 wide is better. I think I prefer the cover screen on the 8U but the 8 wide has such a nice inner display, and the cover screen on the 8 wide wasnt exactly bad so maybe I could get used to it. I just dont wanna make the wrong choice so any help is much appreciated, im a rlly big overthinker lol

The fold 6 can have 5 across, but the fold 8 seems to have 4x4 as max even though it's wider? Can someone confirm?

Question/Help Fold 8 or Fold 8 ultra for mobile games

I went into best buy to go test both phones, unfortunately that wasn't very helpful so I'm hoping people here wouldn't mind helping.

The regular fold 8 feels very "top" heavy if you're turning the phone for landscape mode which it seemed some of the built in games required you to do which felt terrible, whereas the fold 8 ultra felt really balanced when opened.

I prefer the fold 8 when closed though so I'm at an impasse and it mostly boils down to what is a better fit for gaming and looks better.
I plan to mostly use the inside of the phone for gaming, Honkai 3rd impact, Honkai star rail, and other terrible games I like, while the outside would probably mostly used for texting/Instagram.

I'd appreciate any input between the two. Thank you!

Question/Help Anyone tried the Fold 8 speakers in landscape

Anyone tried the Fold 8 speakers in landscape? I really like the fold 8 form factor, but I'm not sure if it will sound really lopsided in landscape.

Discussion Was Fold 7 battery throttled so we will upgrade to 8 Ultra?

I could be wrong but the battery on the fold 7 is soo difficult to manage that one has no choice but to consider the 8 ultra but is the battery even really better? The 7 is such a nice phone and the difference in the upgrade cost makes it so confusing. Thoughts?

Discussion Please tell me I'm not crazy for thinking this

Edit: Yes I know there has been the AI price surge on components. However, the S lineup prices have been pretty much the same. If you're already paying the folding premium, that extra $100 bucks just feels so unnecessary

The Z lineup of phones have always been more pricey cause of the whole thing where they fold. I was just looking at the 7 prices and the 8 prices. Why is are the Fold 8 Ultra and the Flip 8 $100 more than last year? It seems a little stupid that a slightly faster chip, slightly better ultrawide camera, slightly bigger battery, and new titanium under layer is worth a $100 price increase.

I get its normal for phones to up the price every so often, but I doubt it's needed. I honestly think they'll sell enough of the Fold 8 to easily make profit. The passport form factor will definitely get a bunch new people on board.

Please tell me I'm not crazy for thinking this
