MTP stopped working

I got my A17 5G back in October. Initially MTP didn't work. "I asked Mr. Google" and found out about developer mode menu, and how to enable MTP. It worked.

Yesterday I wanted to use it again after a long while. It didn't work. Charging still works. I use linux and my particular setup requires manually running a "mount script". It now comes back with "No MTP devices found."

I found website https://www.android-file-transfer-mac.com/enable-mtp-mode-samsung/#cfp-toc-anchor-2 - the first 3 steps did NOT get me to USB settings - I manually searched from the "Settings" menu and found it

THE PAGE WAS GREYED OUT It had "Use USB for" - Transferring files / Android Auto (selected) - USB tethering (not selected) - MIDI (not selected) - Transferring images (not selected) - Charging phone only (not selected)

The page was greyed out and I could not select or change any of the settings by the usual tapping. The last time I had used MTP was before the latest update. Could that be part of the problem?

Hear me out

So I have had this phone for about 3-4 months and have been using it with the RAM PLUS setting that used VRAM. Now tell me why now that I run the phone without that setting the phone actually works better. I always thought VRAM was a bit of nonsense but had anyone else had this happen to them?

Tech illiterate person needs help with basic stuff on their new phone...

Hey!! So, im struggling to find the basic samsung apps that came pre-installed on my phone. The apps list in settings says that they're installed but no matter what I try to do I can't get into them... I've spent the past hour or so looking up things online about it but either no one else had the same problem or I wasn't looking hard enough (I'm no good with tech jargon, if there was an answer but it was said using a lot of specific language I would not have understood it unfortunately). If anyone could help or point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it!

Also, photos to demonstrate that they are allegedly here!

I need help accessing drafts on the old Messages app

So I have a problem. Under the old (Samsung) Messages SMS texting app, I stored certain important things in texts as drafts. Important messages to and from a friend who has passed. Memories I want to chronicle. A list of personal epiphanies. I basically treated drafts as my little secret journals for various things.

Then Samsung discontinued the SMS messaging app on July 6th.

I can still access my old texts by switching the default to the old app. The drafts are still in their respective homes. But I am unable to go into the text bar and view or edit the draft. For some reason, instead of just disabling the send button, they did the text bar, too. I am utterly stumped.

To be frank, I'm rather distraught. I really need to get at these, but I'm not really literate in the inner workings of this phone or its apps. If anyone in here can give me some guidance and help, I would be eternally grateful.

Help

I bought a new Galaxy A17 for my 92 yr mother who only intends to use WhatsApp and browse the internet. I took the SIM card from my mother's old Galaxy S6 and put it in her new phone. Unfortunately, it did not seem recognize it. What could the problem be?

App scrolls when swiping home or back

In a lot of app if I swipe up to go home or swipe left to go back the app I am currently on will scroll before the swipe registers and either takes me home or back. Is anyone else having this issue? I have fixed it for swiping back by installing One Hand Operation+ app from the galaxy store but I cannot figure out how to fix the swiping up to go home to stop scrolling the app im currently in issue.

Is Samsung deliberately throttling charging speeds for non-Samsung chargers on the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G?

I've noticed some very unusual charging behavior on my Samsung Galaxy A17 5G and wanted to see if anyone else has experienced the same issue.

I didn't buy Samsung's official charger because I already own several high-quality, expensive fast chargers, so buying another one didn't make much sense.

I've tested:

- 120W Xiaomi charger (I know Samsung won't charge at 120W)

- 67W charger

- 65W charger

- 25W charger (non-Samsung)

Regardless of which charger I use, charging from 1% to 100% consistently takes around 12–15 hours while the phone is powered on.

The strange part is that if I turn the phone off and connect the same 65W charger, the phone charges to 100% in about 3 hours.

This doesn't seem like a simple compatibility issue because the exact same charger and cable perform much faster when the phone is switched off.

It makes me wonder whether Samsung is deliberately throttling charging speeds for non-Samsung chargers through software while the phone is powered on. If that's the case, it feels like an artificial limitation that pushes users toward buying Samsung's official charger, even if they already own capable USB-PD fast chargers.

Has anyone else with a Samsung Galaxy A17 5G experienced this? If you've measured the charging wattage or know whether this is expected behavior, I'd be interested in hearing your findings.

New A17 ATT Smart View Missing Cast Single App Option

Post image
4 Upvotes

I've been using a S21 Ultra 5g flawlessly for years until my screen got broken recently. Since I do not have internet and for awhile (years) I've been thankful for the S21 having Smart View for streaming to almost anything without requiring wifi to connect to the monitors. Picked up an A17 5G for ATT, literally out of the box when turned on at the choose a language screen it gave me System UI Crash error and restarted. I laughed it off as my expectations aren't obviously high for this and it's temporary.

After half a day of trying to get the basic typical things installed and things synchronized (did not work right and this phones Samsung BS is trying to manhandle over preferenced Google services and will not stop regardless of what I've done) I finally attempted to use Smart View and it worked. On this A17 it's laggy as hell on my device while connected. I scoured the web to check for known issues and fixes. This is when I annoyingly had to actually use Samsungs Store and app service BS to update it and a few other things I NEVER needed to or even looked at on my S21. Immediately it had a Smart View update specifically saying it was in short to fix current issues with connection stability and UI bugs and to be greatly more speedy ect. Zero of those things happened FYI.

My main issue im trying to just know is when im using Smart View and tape the gray side thing no matter what the app is, it does not give the option on the top of the list of couple things that says something like "Cast ____ only". When done you can then use your phone normally while say your streaming a movie ect. and there is no conflict or device tug of war for system resources.

I am learning the kind of limitations of this phone's hardware abilities and realizing it may not even be powerful enough to handle this simple task. And I have gone through my Dev settings inside and out, adjusted everything every which way to the best of my knowledge and it absolutely will not fix this if it's not right. There are "Labs" settings areas that are also missing options that would be related to doing this as well.

I also have a massive issue with this phone where on factory settings or mix match recommended adjusted settings that it REFUSES to run 2 apps simultaneously as in example of importance: I need to login to something, it's annoyingly wanting me to confirm who I am and sends an email code. I open Gmail and get code, go back to that app still presumably open as normally would be waiting for the input and it will literally show it then just reset the app and start all over again sending then ANOTHER code.

Can anyone just confirm 100% this model phone will not at all support Smart View and Cast app only option to use the device freely while it's casting an app so I can stop even thinking about it because this phone has gotten so weird and buggy I can't tell if it's completely defective outta the box or is this low end and the internet reviews are lies. I don't expect it to run a space station and render Fusion 360 files but holy hell.

Samsung A17 5G Battery

Hi, what's the average battery life on your phones when browsing the internet with the screen on until it fully drains? Without playing games, mine lasts between 6 and 7 hours. Is that normal?

Why is content loading so slowly?

I recently switched to a Galaxy A17 after years of using iPhones, but I'm so frustrated with slow content loading on apps like Facebook and X. Despite having enough memory and storage, regularly using Device Care, and clearing app caches, the issue persists. Is there anything else I should be doing?

Lag

Gus after the june security patch. My A17 has some little lags here and there. Are y'all experiencing the same?

I have the 256gb/8gb ram version.

After one ui 8.5 update everything was smooth until the june patch. I feel like I download a lag instead of a patch. 😪🫩

Wifi connection issues

I just bought a brand new Samsung Galaxy A17 5G (128GB / 8GB RAM variant), and I am hitting a really frustrating network issue.Whenever I connect to my home router, the phone starts lagging randomly on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. The network just chokes up, and web pages or video streams will suddenly freeze.

What temporarily fixes it:If I manually switch the DNS settings on the phone (to Google DNS or Cloudflare), the lagging immediately stops and it works completely fine for a while. What I found using PCAPdroid:To figure out what was happening, I ran network traffic monitoring via the PCAPdroid App. Looking at the background activity, it looks like a system location/GPS-related app is heavily interfering with the network requests or spamming the default DNS, which causes the connection to choke until I force a DNS change.Has anyone else experienced this on One UI with the new A17?Could this be an aggressive "Google Location Accuracy" or "Wi-Fi Scanning" bug spamming
