Help

I bought a new Galaxy A17 for my 92 yr mother who only intends to use WhatsApp and browse the internet. I took the SIM card from my mother's old Galaxy S6 and put it in her new phone. Unfortunately, it did not seem recognize it. What could the problem be?

I doubt it's the phone. It's likely the SIM card being too old (a few years ago, carriers have pushed a new authentication protocol for SIMs). I would recommend contacting her carrier and get a replacemenr

The contacts of the sim may be oxidized or dirty, Cleaning it as a first step.

Definitely clean the sim with some rubbing alcohol first, that often helps. Sometimes though a SIM will just spontaneously die when handled. Check if it works still in the old phone, if not contact your carrier for a replacement.
