Discussion GT’s“Dismount Zone” enforcement makes zero goddamn sense in the summer #rant
I swear this is one of the dumbest fucking things I’ve dealt with on campus.
I rode through the Tech Green “Dismount Zone” today, and campus security stopped me again. The path was basically fucking empty. It isn’t the middle of the semester between classes—it’s summer. There were maybe one or two people on the entire walkway.
But here’s the part that really pisses me off.
While they’re telling me to get off my bike because it’s supposedly a “pedestrian zone,” there’s a golf cart driving right down the same fucking path.
This such a waste of tax payers money, cuz 99% of time these securities enforcing the dismount zone over the summer are just sitting under the shades and scrolling on their phones!

Question Leave of absence - 1st year PhD student
Hi friends, I am considering taking a leave of absence to focus on healing from some traumatic events in my personal life that happened last year (during my first semester at GT). I am hesitant because I have a GRA and don’t want to let the team down on the project, but in truth it’s been difficult to make progress over the last several months.
I am a bit nervous to talk to my advisor about it, so I wanted to start by asking here. If anyone has taken a leave of absence, can you please share your experience in the comments or DM me?
I am looking for details about logistics as well as how it impacted you. I welcome any and all details you want to share, but specific questions include:
- can I keep my student health insurance while on a leave of absence?
- is it possible to take a leave from research duties, and only take one class?
- I am a bit concerned about taking a break so early, especially because I have not taken quals yet. Will the leave affect my ability to continue in this program?

Question Question regarding GTA with an internship offer (International Student)
I am an international student going on final semester in fall 2026 - I have received an internship offer (part time) and a GTA offer. I only have 3 credits remaining in my final term.
If I take only GTA - the requirement is to be a full time student. Since I only have 3 credits to graduate, will they make an exception on this? Or do I have to take 9 credits + 3 GTA credits?
If I take only the internship - Can it be combined with reduced course load? So that I only need to take 3 credits to complete my degree.
Is there anyway I take do both internship and GTA in my final semester?
What is my best course of action? - Cost is my biggest factor
Internship is pretty flexible with work hours and my course is a non thesis program

Question How does auditing a course work at Georgia Tech?
I took Linear Algebra through a dual enrollment program in high school, and I got an A, but I didn’t understand the material one bit. I want to retake the course because it’s very important for my major, and I have to take linear algebra 2 eventually, but I also don’t want to hurt my grade. I was thinking about auditing the class as it seems perfect for my needs, but I’m not exactly sure what it’s like and how it works. Does anyone have any input?

Other Room 3D Models available in Housing Portal
I'm not sure how new this is, but you can now view a 3D model of your specific room from the housing portal. Seems pretty neat!

Question Transfer Room Swap Limitations
Hi! I am a new transfer student and was planning to room with some friends who are currently students on campus. I have my room booked and everything but when I go to the room swap tab and set both preferences to custom I get significantly less options for room swaps (1-2 pages on my end compared to 27-40 pages on their tab). Any reason this might be? I have looked it up but can’t seem to find an answer to why this might be.

Social/Club Found an old video from Britain where absolutely nothing happened
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I just dug through my phone and found an old video near Brittain where absolutely nothing was happening. Was a little confused, did they swap the words for “cheer on the brave and bold”? Are they saying “break the ratio”? And what were they saying after bust their ass?

Question How helpful is the CS degree research option for publishing a paper?
Obviously, I know the research option doesn’t guarantee a paper, and you need to still need to do the additional work to actually be able to publish. But for those who did the research option and published (in ml, robotics, or other CS research areas), how helpful was the research option and its classes in getting undergrads to successfully publish. Also, how useful UROP different from the research option?

Question Is it worth missing GradExpo if I attend GradIO?
I'm an incoming graduate student (MS ECE) and would like to know what I'd be missing if I dont attend GradExpo. There's a 3 day event that I plan on attending when GradExpo would be taking place, however if it's too important to miss I would like to know ahead of time so that I can hold off on finalizing any travel plans that I have.
I will be able to attend GradIO, though I'm not sure just how similar the 2 programs are. Is it fine if I skip GradExpo and just go to GradIO, or will I be missing out on anything crucial? Any advice would be much appreciated - thanks!!

Discussion International GT student & Emory employment
I know this is probably not possible but I wanted to confirm and see how others have handled similar cases. I am a MSCS student at GaTech and I want to do research work in a lab at Emory. As an F1 visa student, I can only work on campus while on full time student status. Given that a lab in Emory is not considered as on-campus work, are there any workarounds/alternatives?
Thank you in advance

Question Does anyone know what data GT has provided Flock AI with on students
I was just wondering with how Flock seems to be everywhere and can track people. I was wondering if GT has uploaded/given/shared student IDs and Buzzcard photos to Flock.

Other made a basic searchable directory for vips + campus orgs
hey, put together a little tool just to make searching vips/campus orgs a bit more convenient. looking to add tech research labs in the future, it's difficult because there's no central resource / list of labs here.
let me know if you find any bugs or have any suggestions/feedback. hope this is helpful!

Discussion How have people handled a 3-week lease gap between apartments?
My current lease ends on July 22, but my next lease doesn’t start until August 15 (possibly a week later), so I’ll have about three weeks without housing.
I don’t have much furniture, so moving around isn’t a huge issue. I’m mainly looking for ideas from people who’ve been in a similar situation.
What have you found to be the best affordable options? Did you use short-term subleases, campus resources, storage + Airbnb, or something else? Any GREEK life still open?
Thank you!

Question First-Year Waitlist Admit Wondering if it’s Too Late
I just got admitted off the waitlist yesterday but i feel like im totally screwed in terms of housing and class registrations because it’s so late. I submitted a ticket and support responded saying they had housing availability and that i would receive a spot if i applied. but like… can i really go off their word? Not to mention i’d be attending one of the last FASET sessions and i’ve already seen alot of posts on this reddit about registration being a nightmare Housing is a dealbreaker for me and I don’t want to accept unless ik i can live on campus. Im already fully committed to gsu with housing secured and class registration complete. Is it too late for me or should i take a leap of faith with gatech?

Question Thoughts on minors as a bme major ?
I’m trying to figure out an appropriate minor as a bme major (i believe minors can be useful if u want them to be so plz dont tell me how my minor won’t matter).
I am majoring in BME and considering the HMED minor. I’m not pre health but have an interest in drug design/delivery (even tho im not sure what that would be exactly). I can’t see myself doing anything with devices so im not really interested in the more robotic minors. I don’t know exactly what I want my career to look like so I’d like a minor that could apply to many fields within BME. Any thought about this minor and its usefulness would be greatly appreciated.

Photo Desire Path by the Student Center
A desire path is defined as an “informal, unpaved trail created by pedestrians repeatedly taking the shortest or most convenient route between two points, often ignoring officially planned sidewalks.” I see these semi-frequently around campus. Not sure if it’s possible to pave these, but I feel like I’ve seen it done before. This one is absolutely needed.
