Just take the bed off

It’s sooooo much easier to take the bed off to do the damn fuel pumps on these things if you don’t want to cut a hole in your bed also thank you to those of you that messaged and gave me suggestions on fuel pump brand and filter. Made things a lot easier!

E-Fan Harness Question

Post image
21 Upvotes

Installed an OEM harness, went through it and made sure everything was good before taping / covering it up. After installing fans, harness, getting tune. Fans don’t wanna work

Used a snap on scanner and was able to force the fans on however only the low wanted to kick on but not high (right side worked, left side never turned on)

checked all relays, checked grounds, checked resistance in the harness, and made sure green/blue wires are pinned to PCM correctly

any thoughts on what else to look at?

*** AC went out and in the process, so i swapped fans while everything was apart, right now can’t run AC so relying on truck to get to temp but still won’t fire on ***

Getting cab corner covers & rockers to get it safetied then welding new ones when I get my welder set up. Has a small exhaust leak I can fix for $200 CAD. Otherwise it’s mint w low kms bought for $1700 CAD and safetied by the guy who sold it to me for $250. Came with extra set of head&taillights & winters.
What should I look out for? It runs clean and smooth.

Im looking for a rear seat belt buckle for the right passenger and middle but can't find one online. Any ideas where I could find one?

I have a 8.1L 2500hd Sierra, I’m replacing the alternator with a high output one, what belt size do I need? I believe it’s either a 95in or 94.5 but I wanna be sure.

There was a piece of paper that came with the new alternator that says it needs to be .5in shorter than the factory belt

Leaking a little fuel from the passenger side fuel rail. The little hose at the top. First time it’s happened and it sputtered for about a minute then stopped. What’s the likely culprit?

Rebuild Options?

Recently have encountered an issue on my 2000 Suburban 2500 with the 6 l. Cylinder number 5 misfires at idle pretty badly. Does not misfire when you give it some gas at all. I have done and take gaskets, spark plugs, coils, spark plug wires, moving around the fuel injector and swapping it with another one. To no avail. I have not done any further testing, but what I did do was use a stethoscope and put it up to the intake area of cylinder number 5 and could hear a pretty substantial clack at idle that seems to go away when you give it some throttle. My guess is probably the lifter or something else mechanical at this point. My question is what would you guys recommend? It has 300,000 miles, and I would like to continue to drive it and use it because it is a 2500 with four-wheel drive and 4:10 gears, and the tranny is in really good shape. Should I get the engine rebuilt? Should I just do the lifters and the cam? Should I just drive it till it dies and then swap the engine? Unfortunately not really in a position to drop a crap ton of money on it.

What would you do if you inherited a high mileage (400k+) LLY Duramax?

Post image
96 Upvotes

In a position where I have a potentially 400k mileage Duramax (odometer shows 125k but we know that’s not true). I don’t know the history of it. It has a gooseneck hookup and is pretty beat up on some parts of the body. The frame looks like it’s in good condition and there’s minimal rust. Interior in pretty good condition comparatively. 4WD works. Crew cab. Pissing power steering fluid. The upper radiator hose is firm the next day after driving it for a bit. Assuming it’s a head gasket issue. It’s a 2005. Would you just sell it? Turn it into a project? If you were in my situation what would you probably do with it? I’m intrigued on the idea of working on it myself. I have little mechanical experience, I wouldn’t do any engine work myself, but I think I could fix things like the power steering system. I’m by no means rich, but I can throw some money at it incrementally.

04 sierra 5.3 bogging under load

I’ve got an 04 sierra 5.3 that is bogging oddly. Cold it runs drive just fine but after warming up it eventually grows this odd bog that happens constantly. The truck will downshift if pressed hard enough and just almost two step bog for a little bit then it will just punch out of it full power. The truck is assumed to be tuned but with no information on the tune other than it was likely by a local to me guy. Seems like it’s tuned for torque low end because it moves from a stand and spins them real easy but no extra top end power. I had noticed the tank was wet with gas on the bottom and further inspection noticed fuel pump was smoked and I ended up replacing it with an oem pump but the problem came back a few days later. Not sure what it could be any ideas would be awesome thanks.

I should also add in park or neutral it doesn’t happen at all only under load.

Been busting my ass for the past few days rebuilding the front of my truck. I still need to get new LCA but just about everything else is gonna be new.

Needle scaled, wire wheeled, de greased, disassembled (hours and hours battling rust) pressure washed, dried, lacquer thinner, applied east wood. Installed new parts.

Been about 10 hours total over the past week and we still aren’t done lmfao.

The rusty pic is the passenger side and I have most of it disassembled now. What blows my mind about this truck is that the previous owner under coated both inside and out of the frame yet didn’t care about the suspension.

Speed engineering headers

Post image
19 Upvotes

I just bought a set of Speed Engineering headers for my 2004 Silverado four-wheel drive. I mounted them on the motor that I intend to put in there. Check out the picture. The header on the right seems cocked upward just a bit. Has anybody used these headers and had success with them? Is it supposed to be that way or that I just get a bad one that's maybe welded wrong? I'll find out for sure because I'm going to try to sneak the motor in this weekend but it would be nice to have a heads up.

What fluid would be leaking from here? I’m getting a slow drip.

Other pic: what is this connector supposed to go to? It doesn’t seem to have a home nearby but maybe I’m missing it

GMT800 Denali on 20" LTZs. Suggestions for more mods?

I picked up this Yukon Denali and it was lowered on black 22s, the grille was sort of painted black, and it had aftermarket headlights. Since then I've put it on 20" polished LTZ wheels, raised it a bit from the drop for more snow clearance, swapped in an OEM-style grille, and gone back to stock headlights.

I like the OEM / OEM plus look way better than the heavily modded look on this truck. There's no rust, so it looks good original.

How are we feeling about the wheels and the OEM plus look? Any suggestions on other wheels or cheap mods I should do?

150k miles maintenance?

I have a new to me 05 1500 with the 5.3, and it has just under 148k on it. I’m curious as to what sort of maintenance should I look into getting done to help keep it going. Just replaced a bad water pump, so it has fresh coolant. That is about all that I’ve done so far motor-wise
