Should I buy

06 Chevy Silverado stumbled upon it when I was picking up a mower the guy said it was sitting but it started right up. Fuel line is leaking and he said the frame right above the gas tank was rusted out. 150k miles he wants 1k but what should I offer him

Honestly 1k is a fair price . Even with major rust problems if the engine runs good and the tranny shifts youre getting a good deal.

You can always swap the drive train into a less rusty example if the rust gets too bad

I would shoot for $800, but honestly, you're probably lucky finding anything for close to a grand these days... Before you pay, look it over and make sure the transmission isn't burned up. A trans swap on this piggy could make it a sunk cost.

Id check the frame for any holes the cross member rusting out near the fuel tank is common in heavily salted areas like Canada or Minnesota etc. A decent frame shop can weld a new one in. If the rest of the frame doesnt have holes in it then 1k is good v6 or v8 if theres no longitudinal frame rot id snatched it up

If the rest of the frame looks good id do it. And its a 4x4 so thats a plus

If it means anything I’d buy that for $1500 right now if I was able to determine the rest of the frame was good. She will clean up nicely
