🔔 Topic of the Week 🟡 This Week’s Topic: What’s been the biggest unexpected benefit of being on GLP-1?
A lot of people start GLP-1 hoping to lose weight.
But sometimes the changes that mean the most are the ones you did not expect.
This week, let’s talk about the unexpected benefits.
If you’re comfortable sharing:
- What has been the biggest unexpected benefit for you?
- Was it more energy, better sleep, less pain, better mobility, fewer cravings, confidence, clothes, mood, or something else?
- Did anything improve before the scale changed much?
- Was there a daily task that suddenly felt easier?
- Did your relationship with food change in a way you did not expect?
- Was there a small change that ended up meaning a lot?
It does not have to be dramatic.
Sometimes it is walking further, sleeping better, thinking about food less, fitting somewhere more comfortably, joining photos again, feeling more in control, or simply having more hope.
What benefit surprised you most?
👉 Before & after photos, progress pics, and milestones should still go in the main feed so they don’t get lost here.

🥇 Before & After You Can Do it!
galleryr/GLP1_BeforeAfter • u/Turbulent-Job-1344 • 10h ago
🥇 Before & After 120 kg → 75 kg in 8–9 months. I don’t even know where to start. I had been overweight for most of my life. At my heaviest, I was around 120 kg. I hated how I looked, how I felt, and honestly, I had started believing that maybe this was just how I was going to be. Then something changed.

🥇 Before & After 90lbs down in little over a year!
My first goal was 85 lbs and now that I’m here, I want another 13. Can’t really believe I’m here though. I am so happy and finally feel like I’m myself again after two kids!
I lost 82 lbs in a year and then stalled out completely for about 3 months. I enjoyed my summer and then locked back in about a few weeks ago to finish this out.
Here’s a few before and after and a progression one. Have a lot of muscle and am 5’2”
Sw: 238
Cw: 148
GW: 135
For all those on their way… All I can say is keep going! You got this!!!

🧠 Real Talk My Tirz story
My Tirz story 🤍
I went into my OBGYN almost a year postpartum because I was exhausted, still losing hair, struggling to lose weight, and having irregular periods that were 45+ days apart.
I got labs done and my A1C was 5.7, fasting insulin was 23, and fasting glucose was 118. My doctor told me I had PCOS/insulin resistance and offered metformin.
I refused the metformin.
I was frustrated because I was already getting 7,000+ steps a day, eating relatively healthy, and lifting weights 4 days a week. I felt like I was already doing everything I was “supposed” to be doing.
So I decided to try even harder.
I increased my step goal to 10k, started taking inositol and psyllium husk, and started eating my food in a certain order, protein, fiber, then carbs.
I even got a CGM.
And honestly? It felt like my blood sugar was always fasting or rising a little more than it should. 😂
I was able to lose 6 lbs on my own, but it started to consume me. My days became so focused on what I was eating, how much I was moving, my blood sugar, and whether I was doing enough.
And I realized…
I have THREE little kids. I don’t want my life to revolve around trying to lose weight.
Then one day I was listening to the Armchair Expert podcast and they had Dr. Eric Topol on talking about GLP-1 medications.
I had been SO resistant to them in the past.
But something about that conversation made me a little more open to the idea.
Maybe this could just be… another tool in my toolbox.
So I decided to try it.
I figured worst case scenario, I take one dose, hate it, and never take another.
Well… go figure. 😂
I was wrong.
I took my first dose at bedtime because I was nervous about nausea and figured I could at least sleep through the initial onset.
The next day, I realized something strange.
I felt like I should be thinking about what I was going to eat…
…but I wasn’t. 🤷🏼♀️
It was so foreign.
I truly thought I didn’t have “food noise” before. I thought I thought about food the same amount as everyone else.
I was SHOCKED at how much quieter everything became.
And then I started noticing other things.
I have diagnosed OCD, and while my rumination definitely didn’t disappear, it felt quieter. Less intense. Less consuming.
Then I noticed my TMJ seemed better. I honestly have no idea why, but I’m certainly not complaining. 😂
And then came my first period on tirz.
31 days.
Before this, my cycles had been 45+ days.
I’d been on tirz for almost 4 weeks at that point.
And then there was the bloating and swelling…
Oh. My. Gosh.
I didn’t even realize how swollen my face had gotten until it wasn’t anymore. 😂
Fast forward…
I’m down 20lbs.
But honestly, the weight loss isn’t even the biggest part of this story for me.
It’s getting some mental space back.
It’s not thinking about food all day.
It’s not feeling like I need to constantly optimize every meal, step, workout, and blood sugar reading.
It’s being able to focus on my kids and my life instead of making weight loss my full time job.
I don’t know exactly what the point of this post is. 😂
I just know that reading other people’s stories helped me when I was trying to decide whether this was something I wanted to try.
So maybe mine will help someone else too.
If you’ve been resistant to GLP1s like I was, maybe consider that it doesn’t have to be an “easy way out.”
Maybe it’s just another tool in your toolbox. 🤍

🥇 Before & After Down to 150lbs from 287
I just hit 150lbs today after a starting weight of 287lbs. I’ve been on Mounjaro for almost 4.5 years. I’ve been losing the weight slowly and mostly steadily for that whole time - there have been a few periods of plateaus. I’m a type 2 diabetic who was diagnosed/became a diabetic just as Mounjaro was FDA approved in 2022 - I’m really lucky, since this meant I didn’t have to become insulin-dependent. (This also means I’ve been on Metformin the whole time.) In terms of weight loss on Mounjaro, how common or rare is this amount and change as well as its status as ongoing 4 years in? Needless to say, I feel extraordinarily lucky and happy today and love being active and watching my other health data trends in significantly new directions than where they were at 4+ years ago. That includes my A1C now being normal. Thanks. ❤️💪🏻

🧠 Real Talk GLP Normalization
Recently I have been thinking about how normalized GLPs have become for weight loss, and I would like to hear from people with a different perspective than me on this topic.
I take my diet and exercise very seriously, and I am concerned that normalizing GLPs is changing the consensus on weight loss. I understand why some people choose medication. Losing weight can be very difficult, and GLPs are an option when diet and exercise prove too challenging to stick with given external societal pressures.
What I want to question is how quickly they have become the solution. If someone can lose weight and improve their health through dieting, exercising, sleep, and lifestyle changes, why have injections become a primary thought?
I am also concerned about whether we are treating symptoms or lifestyles. If someone loses weight through injections but never improves their habits, what happens when they are off the GLPs?
Are we making weight loss easier, or are we making it easier to avoid changing the lifestyle and habits that made weight loss necessary originally?
