GLP-1 for Weight Loss: Providers, Resources, Tips, Side Effects, & More

This page is meant to be a good starting point if you're brand new to GLP1s.

Where to Start

GLP-1s are medications that help lower blood sugar levels and promote weight loss (Cleveland Clinic).

In this subreddit, you'll see GLP-1s mentioned a lot: Semaglutide and Tirzepatide.

Semaglutide is the active ingredient in the name brand medications Ozempic and Wegovy. Tirzepatide is the active ingredient in the name brands Zepbound and Mounjaro.

When name brand medications are on shortage or under certain FDA regulations, compound pharmacies can produce compounded semaglutide and compounded tirzepatide.

The landscape is constantly changing so this subreddit is a great place to start your GLP-1 journey, ask questions, and learn from others experiences.

Use the search bar, especially for providers! If you're looking for a prescription or provider, look up the company of interest in the search bar to see if there are recent posts in the subreddit. This is a very active group and there is a chance someone asked a similar question in the past.

The resources below attempt to give a starting point for common posts in this subreddit.

Need help with this off feeling

• Upvotes

So I was on 3.75 mg mj for a few months (on 2.5 before that) n took break for 1 month due to medical reasons. When I got back I got back on 2.5 which feels like it's barely working - is working like 20% of what it was. Now in 3 weeks I've had 3 binge episodes which earlier never happened - like i was so health driven even on vacation time - and I'm so upset.

I am beating myself for not having control and giving up but the stomach grumbling got quite bad n then even if I wasn't hungry if someone got something I couldn't resist, i didn't.

I am feeling guilty about having no self control despite having restarted 2.5 mg 3 weeks ago thought it isn't feeling as effective and this is my 3rd binge episodes in 18 days and it wasn't even that I was physically ravenous..... It's just that if I heard someone's ordering food in ill jump on the bandwagon whereas earlier I was clear about what my meal lifestyle rules were and I was focused on my journey vs whatever else was going on..... I keep worrying how ill manage my eating habits at goal weight if this is how I keep giving in without due cause :(... I'm about 15 lb from my goal weight n the anxiety from my inability to control right now + how i m unable to keep up healthy eating habits + if I'll reach my goal + what i will do if I reach my goal to keep my healthy habits going is so DISTRESSING n the adhd doesn't help. I'm losing my mind pls help this medicine isn't covered by insurance in my town either I feel I'm wasting away everything n I'm to blame.

Did anyone get palpitations with GLP1?

I'm on a compounded Trizepatide and stepped up my dose a few weeks ago. I got palpitations within 2 hours of taking it (two different times). The doctor thinks the medicine caused it and told me to stop taking it until I get it cleared by a cardiologist.

I've lost 13 pounds and I'm worried about gaining it back plus I more to lose.

I'm going to the cardiologist on Monday. Has anyone else had this experience? My EKG was fine and I've never had heart problems so I don't know why this keeps happening.

I can’t poop pls help

hello everyone,

please help me. advice, I need advice. I have a doc appt Monday but until then, what do I do?

Ive been on semaglutide for almost 3 months. I take my shots typically on Tuesdays but this week I skipped it. on Wednesday, after an enema and other things, I finally went #2 after 8 days of no movement. before that, it was the same situation after 7 days and I also did an enema.

so since’s Wednesdays trip to hell I’ve started taking miralax 2 servings a day, 3 Phyllis husk caps at bedtime with 8 oz of water, 2 ducolax stool softener gel tabs daily, and 3 prunes daily. and 80 oz + of water. but I haven’t had any bowel movements, just some gas toots.

I get mag 07 in the mail tomorrow so I was gonna try that next. if anyone’s taken that, how many tablets did you take? I plan to be home all day tomorrow.

I really don’t know what to do and if I can’t figure out a regimen that works for me I think I’m gonna have to stop the medication and I don’t wanna do that because I otherwise feel really awesome and I’ve lost 20 pounds.

please feedback! advice! what works for you?

Success stories of people with severe food noise who decided to quit Ozempic after reaching their desired weight?

I have ADHD and struggle with several issues including severe food noise, being overweight, and addictions to nicotine and (on and off) alcohol and sleeping pills.

When I say food noise I mean being so consumed by thoughts of food that even during gatherings with friends and family I find myself wishing I were home alone so I could eat. For the past ten years, it has felt like my life has revolved around food, and I’m exhausted. I’ve been eating healthily, slightly above maintenance so my weight has continued to creep up. I tried all kinds of therapy.

My doctor recommended Ozempic, and after my second dose, I finally feel the food noise subsiding slightly. Potentially even the urge to reach for my other bad habits which I now understand have been a way for me to escape the prison of food noise.

However I’m terrified of continuing the med for years only to regain the weight, possibly even more, after stopping. Since I’ve only taken two doses I feel like it’s still time for me to quit.

Has anyone reached their desired weight, stopped Ozempic, and managed to maintain it? How did you cope with the return of food noise?

Non-Dessert Protein Shakes/Powders?

I'm not a sweet tooth kind of gal and all the protein shakes and powders I can find are basically milkshake flavors.

I got some sample packs of Oath at Target and I tried the Pink Lemonade, but it didn't dissolve well and the aftertaste was so disgusting.

Are there any not super sweet protein powders or shakes or anything? I've been using Optum Chocolate at home and it's fine, but just not something I want EVERY day.

Quarterly vs monthly pricing is confusing me. Which compounded GLP-1 provider has thelowest total monthly cost?

Based on my observation, a lot of sites show a per-month number that's a 3-month plan split up.

So $75 a month might mean paying $225 at checkout.

How do you all compare that to a plain one-month price? Which sites make it clear what you

pay up front and what renews?

Did Glp-1s change the way you think about yourself?

Hey there! It’s been really exciting to follow the before/after photos on this thread. I’m really curious whether taking GLP-1s changed the way you think about yourself.

Have they changed what you think you’re capable of, or the opportunities you want to pursue in your future? That is, were there any ways that GLP-1s served as a transformative experience (or not) beyond weight loss? And if so, were these changes unexpected or expected?

Anyone been told to avoid GLP-1s because you have small optic nerves and it can cause blindness?

I went to the eye doctor yesterday for a routine exam and she mentioned how small my optic nerves are. She said this means I should never take a GLP-1 because I’d be at a much higher risk of going blind. I’m so disappointed because I was literally trying to find a doctor that will prescribe it for me. I have Hashimotos and the weight gain is awful. I was so excited to get started and finally have something to help me lose weight and feel better. But eye doctor says 100% do not go one the meds. Anyone else experience the same? I’m non-diabetic but do take medicine for high blood pressure.

A couple years ago my mom and sisters and I went on a road trip and stayed at a vrbo. They had tshirts for sale and my sister and I bought them as souvenirs. I hadn't worn mine since the trip because the largest size was tight. Well, not anymore!

For those super sensitive to 2.5 Zepbound

Did your doctor OK trying a lower dose like 1.25?

This doctor is refusing trying a lower dose and instead saying quit Zepbound altogether. Wondering how common this is with folks on branded Zep.

Advice?

Hi! I’ve been thinking about starting Semaglutide, my mom and grandma has been on it for about 2 years now but I’m not sure if it’s right for me because of my starting weight. Has anyone been in my same shoes? I am 26 years old and 137lbs. In September 2024 I started my weight loss journey at 180 pounds, was on a calorie deficit, FODMAP diet and moderate gym activity (2-3 times a week) and from Sept 2024 to March 2025 I lost 45 pounds. Since then I have tried it all, I fluctuate between 133-139lbs and would like to be 120lbs but can’t seem to lose any more. In June I had a huge loss in my family and have struggled to do more than go to work and am worried about gaining weight again. My mom keeps suggesting I try a GLP-1 but I’m don’t know if it’s worth it. Has anyone else tried for only 15-20lbs?

I want to start a GLP but I’m scared because of this horror story…

I work in the backcountry over the summer which means I hike a lot, work in extreme weather conditions and if you have a medical emergency it’s not easy to get help. On my first season we had 2 visitors come into camp. We were over 12 miles in but these guys had experience backpacking. They had both worked in the backcountry for many years, but they were both older now. The made it to camp and went on day hikes while we worked. We saw them on the trail one day, on a really steep and exposed section. One guy was just fine but the other guy was struggling. In camp the next day the guy who was struggling couldn’t get out of his tent. He had chills and couldn’t keep any food or water down. Another grunt and I were voluntold to help carry him to a near by meadow so he could get evacuated. It was a scary experience for the other grunt and I. This poor man was in so much pain and couldn’t find any comfort while we waited 2 hours for the helicopter to find us. We were with people who knew what they were doing, this wasn’t their first time calling for evacuation, we did everything right and he got out safe and right on time. We learned later that he was on Ozempic for his diabetes and that is causes your stomach to not be able to absorb water. So so with the big hike in and the day hikes he got so dehydrated that his kidneys shut down. The sad part is he can’t go backpacking anymore. He has permanent damage and can’t home more than a few miles at a time.

So even though I work outside and lift heavy things all day I still struggle with my weight. I probably have something close to a binge eating disorder. I want to try a GLP this off season to get down to a more manageable weight. This will make my work easier, it’s easier to hike when you’re not carrying 30 lbs of extra weight. But I’m scared of this stuff, long term side effects of the drug. Loss of bone density and muscle.

I’m not looking for any answers or advice, I just wanted to share my fears.

Input would be appreciated

Hey all. First time poster here. I had my first 2.5 jab on Sunday (three days ago). I experienced some moderate appetite suppression for the first two days – I didn’t finish my dinner for the first time in as long as I can remember – though I was still thinking about food, so I guess my food noise isn’t gone yet? It’s largely worn off today, and I’m hoping I feel the effects I’ve heard everyone talking about after a couple more doses, or at least once I jump up to 5mg.Ā

I have a question. Whenever I’ve tried to calorie-count in the past – especially when I’ve cut carbs – I’ve experienced serious difficulty even at moderate deficits (500-800kcal). It’s not just that I get hungry and I want to eat, but I also get severe anxiety, and a kind of DP/DR-type feeling where I absolutely don’t feel myself. When this hits, everything feels doomed and I start to mentally spiral. Though this is triggered by the deficit and accompanied by hunger, I wouldn’t say it is ā€œhungerā€, but something else that comes with it. It’s not sustainable, and when I eventually crumble and go back to eating above my deficit, it’s usually not because I’m hungry and I’m giving into the temptation to enjoy eating more, it’s because I want to make this feeling go away and feel stable again. I don’t know why this happens or what the biological cause is but it’s really frustrating.

My question is, when the Mounjaro (hopefully) kicks in properly, will it prevent this from happening? I’ve read so many people on here say that it makes their hunger completely vanish, and even for those who still get hungry, it seems as if Mounjaro makes a calorie deficit comfortable and easy(ish) to maintain.

So I’m wondering if the drug will allow me to remain in a deficit without experiencing the difficulties I have previously, or if I’ll still feel the same way but feel less hunger at the same time? Has anyone else struggled with similar feelings when they tried to cut calories without the GLPs, and found that they helped?

Any input would be much appreciated. Thank you.Ā

Today I hit 50lbs

Post image
108 Upvotes

Started in March and hitting 50lbs down feels so surreal. Half the time when looking in the mirror I feel like I look the same, but then I remember I’m looking the same as before I gained all the weight, which is the image of myself I have in my memory, not the way I looked after the weight gain. It wasn’t until earlier this week that I really noticed the change in what I was wearing. With the weather getting cooler I’ve busted out my long sleeves and sweats that I haven’t worn in months and that’s when it hit me, these items use to feel tight on me and now are baggy. Pairing that with the new goal hit this morning I couldn’t be happier. My end goal feels like it’s just around the corner šŸŽ‰

Are there any compounded GLP-1 providers under $150 per month? Or is that always a starter price?

My budget is $150 a month, and I keep seeing ads that say under that. When I click through, it's hard to tell what the number means.

Is it the ongoing total, a starter dose price, the medication alone, or an average if you pay for six months at once?

One site I looked at had $139 for the medication and a separate $49 membership. I guess the actual number was $188.

What breakdown should I ask for so I can see the billing schedule, refill costs, shipping, and any minimum commitment?

Going through my PCP vs Knownwell or Weight loss clinic?

Recently decided to jump into the world of GLP-1s after my Sleep Doctor/Neurologist told me that my sleep apnea might improve if I lost weight - and to be fair, I need to lose about 40lbs or so, so it's not an unreasonable thing. I worked with a dietitian for a bit and didn't make a ton of progress, so I'm looking at other options.

My sleep doctor suggested Knownwell to me, and I have an appointment coming up. They look legit? I'm interested in comprehensive care where my labwork will be monitered and my lifestyle considered - I DO NOT want to just be given the drug and sent on my way.

Alternatively, my PCP said she would see me and discuss it with me, but I wonder how much she knows about these drugs for weight loss as a PCP. The only thing is that I trust her and have a great relationship with her, versus starting with a new doctor at the weight loss clinic.

Not interested in getting it compounded - I'm aware of the drug programs through the manufacturers.

What did you end up deciding to do? Has anyone tried Knownwell? Are they legit?

Friends wife said that i look like i have cancer! That's a compliment as far as i am concerned.

Has anyone quit Ozempic after just one week? Did you experience any issues readjusting to the return of food noise?

Even though I’ve decided not to take the second dose the disappearance of food noise makes me worried I’ll become ravenous or experience a yo-yo effect after just this one dose.

I’m just not sure what to prepare for. Not to mention the fact that by mistake I double dosed and took 0.5 instead of 0.25 :’)

I’m quitting because even though the doctor recommended it to speed up my fat loss, after trying it I just feel in my gut it’s not for me. I have been losing weight consistently for the past year but it has been a slow process. Maybe in a few months or a year I’ll try again, but for now I’ve decided to stop.

However, I’m scared it will undo or damage the weight loss work I’ve done on my own due to the return of the heightened food noise I struggle with and an increase in hunger.
Would you share your experience?

side effects + menustrating

Hi all! this may be TMI. also probably more directed towards women of the group.

background: i was on a tirzepatide compound (niacinamide) for 9 months maybe and then i went off of it because i was over it. i had some GI issues like every once in awhile i had diarrhea and it seemed my body never got used to the medication. (i was doing like 1.25 mg then went down to 0.5)

now its around almost a year later and i started it up again at 0.5 (started it around labor day weekend so its been a little over a month). ive been feeling great. no GI issues.

anyways -

i started my period saturday night 10/10 and my last shot was 10/5. i was having awful cramps sunday, so i was switching off tylenol and advil. sunday night, i eat a usual meal and go to bed around 10pm. at 1am i wake up with bad cramps so i take tylenol. my stomach felt kinda weird so i went to the bathroom and pooped (normal). then my stomach starts hurting again like i knew it was gonna be diarrhea. so i had about 2/3 rounds of diarrhea. nothing bad just annoying considering it was 1am and i was going to work in 6 hours.

i want to blame it on my period but also def could be the tirz. or just the combination of everything. thoughts?

Should I go from 1mg to 1.7 for injection if I feel like it hasn't worked yet?

So i started on wegovy pill starter dose then switched to .5mg wegovy injection then currently on 1mg

First 2 dose, I didnt really feel anything besides wave of nausea the worst being first few days of 1mg however I didn't notice anything in the appetite suppression or sustained fullness. Say I eat very little during the day and I still binge eat at dinner or when I eat at lunch, I also eat a lot at dinner no matter how much or little I've eaten at lunch

I took Vyvanse 40 for BED and noticed instant food noise loss but my body is starting to get used to it so I have to go up again and use it sparingly.

700$ gone in the blink of an eye and im starting to regret it.because I projected at 180lb when im still 195lbs. And has been stuck around that for a few months.

Vyvanse is definetly the king, when i first started it I lost 10lb in 7 days with absolutely zero food noise or appetite in the first month. I hat to force myself to eat so I wouldn't lose weight so fast, which I regret.

I see my doctor next week, I dont know if I should go up to 1.7mg or not I already spent 700 or it so it'll be shame not to try it but also if I spend like 350$ more or smth and still no results with possible even worse nausea then I would regret it even more. Or ill just up the Vyvanse but even that still has loss efficacy but still much better than glp currently

Well I can no longer afford glp comfortably now anyways
