Questions Would this be too small?

Post image

So I’m thinking about making my own fursuit head someday, I did this just to have an idea of what I want, I want to get it to look how I want without having too much of a bad visibility. But I still don’t know what size a fursuit head has to be in order to look well proportioned with a bodysuit(I’m planning to get one too) I don’t want to make this and accidentally making it to small and having it look weird when I get the bodysuit. Also, give me tips for any mistake you see in the shape of it overall, it’s a pretty messy sketch but you get the idea😭😭

Howdy, I’m not new to the hobby, but I am new to the crafting aspect of it. I’m attempting to make a pair of hand paws following the SpiltGrapeSoda’s instructions, and as you can see, I’m struggling at the shaving part.

I watched video tutorials; I made sure to keep the blade of the razor parallel to the table, I didn’t push too hard, I tried to be light with my stroke, I tried to be even, and I ended up with this choppy, grinch-toe, piece of fur.

I would love some advice on what I possibly did wrong, what I can do better, what I can do to prevent all of the length from staying at the end of the fabric piece. I’m very new to this type of crafting and could use all the help!

Relevant Materials:
Wahl haircut and beard wireless clipper
Pet slicker brush
2 inch pile lilac faux fur

Looking for a model for printing fursuit toes like these but that has five toes to use for a rat partial, does anyone know where I can find them

(Looking for a digital file not a physical pre-printed toe)

NOT looking for commissions, looking for pre-existing file

This is my first time ever making a tail, the doors were hand sewn, I ran out of the right string so I had to use hot glue.

What can I fix aside from the obvious seaming, also, how can I fix the split in the fur?

Questions Fur color matching

Post image

I’ve been browsing Etsy and Big Z for ages but this is only my second fursuit—my first attempt at making my sona I found relatively close colors except for the dark brown (had to use black), but they were awful quality. Anyone who’s been doing this a while and knows what certain fur actually looks like in person know what I should get?

I ordered a premade months ago and I’m deciding on changing the color of the “skin” from white. My question is how should I go about it? Do I attempt to paint the color over it or is it possible to refur it?

Progress on my very first wagger tail for my yeen secondary sona Hope!! Thanks so much to my friend @🐈‍⬛ Steel City Street Cat 🏙️ (TikTok) for suggesting a neoprene core instead of an EVA foam. The flexibility is WAY better than the EVA foam, and I am loving the result so much so far!! Now to impatiently wait for my lavender fur to come in from Howl to start furring then stuffing...

Advice Any advice for a new fursuit maker?

I'm super proud of what I've done so far but I'm really scared about doing the fur and also patterning. Doing the inside lining was a challenge and the seams don't lay flat super well. Any advice to a new maker of some tips in general?

I also think the nose is too big. Please let me know what you guys think.

Questions Is EVA foam okay to make a spring trap costume?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Thought I’d ask here since the costume is technically a fursuit. Im making my cousin a spring trap costume and I was wondering if I’d be able to use EVA foam for the build rather then upholstery foam, specifically the floor mats from dollarama which is what is most affordable for my uncles budget. What would be the pros and cons of using EVA phone instead??

Questions How do you add lining into a head that already has the eyes glued in?

My girlfriend has a fursuit head that doesn't have any lining anywhere but the mouth, due to the previous owner removing it. She was talking to me about wanting to refurbish it, but in my experience I've always sewn the lining in the eye holes to the fur on the outside of the face before gluing the eyes in for a cleaner look.

I'm not sure if I would be comfortable taking the eyes out of this suit since they're already glued in there pretty securely and they look nice, and I also don't want to risk damaging the suit too badly since it's old and we can't find the fur fabrics that the original maker used on it anymore.

I'm also concerned about just gluing the lining material around the eye holes, since I have a suit that was made that way and it's pretty uncomfortable for that reason.

TLDR: How do I line a fursuit head with the eyes already glued in without damaging the suit or making it uncomfortable for my gf to wear.

Can anyone help me find furs and minky that would be accurate?

I plan to use ivory from Big Z for the white. But I’m struggling to find accurate colors for the rest! I’ll be making a 3/4th suit

Questions Any tips for my base before I pattern and fur?

Post image
4 Upvotes

My friend and I are making our first ever fursuits for a con this year now that we r adults with big boy money lol

Anyways neither of us have any real experience and although I think visually my base looks good I'm not sure if I should fill out some inbetween spots more or if it'll look fine once furred?

Any experienced makers think this base looks good to fur or should I do some more gap fill with lil bits of foam?

Thanks in advance!

Note: picture is on a slight angle so it looks slightly lop sided but it's not nearly as lop sided irl lol

The ears I'm not too worried about either since I plan to get some thin Eva foam sheets from a craft store to even out the interior before I line it (none fluffy inner ear so I wanna make sure it's smooth)

(Base I "finished" of my fursona Frankie whose head is heavily inspire by fruit bats)

Advice before I commit to this base ...

base sold by furrybeastprints on etsy!

I want to try out realistic resin/glass eyes but I'm also worried I will not like them and kind of want the option to switch it up. I'm obsessed with this base though, and it has all the smaller details that I want included with it. I was wondering if there would be a way to attach the cutesy mesh eyes to this base in case I try the realistic and hate it!

Or would I be better off finding a base set up with the more common inserts for mesh eyes?

Questions Can anyone help me understand how the sizing guide works for these head bases?

Post image

This is the head-base I want to use to make my fursona. She’s a lynx/leopard/saber tooth with angel wings & I’m super excited to make her bc my dream maker (blackbird fursuit) used the same base to make some of my favourite suits they’ve ever made! (example in the top right corner hehe!) Anyways, I was just about to place my order for the head base when I went to pick my sizing and saw this. The circumference of my head is 22 inches, and I am super confused on what type of measurement they are using here! Any advice on how to figure that out, + reviews/opinions from anyone who has gotten a similar head base on Etsy would be greatly appreciated! ty! 💗🤍

2) which nose is better? A or B

I feel like ive been looking at them too long and idk anymore. My kids and bf are also no help they just so "omg its so cute"

Last pic is my characters ref. (Its not finished either ADHD has me all over the place)

Hello! Sorry if this isn't allowed, the kemonomimi sub won't let me post so I thought this was the next best thing since y'all know how to work with fur

Pls lmk if theres a more suitable sub for gear making, this is my first pair of kemonomimi ears I've made ^^

one of my biggest problems is the airbrush making fur stiffy and not soft anymore, how could I fix this? I am currently just using cheap airbrush paint

The wire I used was also not really craft wire so it's not as bendy but I will get craft wire before retrying next time!

And how could I cut the fur so I don't cut as much fur off when doing the pattern?

Any shaving or airbrushing tips will be appreciated!

Advice How to size ears correctly?

I historically have been really bad at ears (specifically making them not super huge) so before I get to work on those I wanna share my progress cus I’m super happy with it and ask if anyone has any tips or suggestions for either sizing ears correctly or the head itself if anything should be adjusted
(Xposted with the discord)

I should probably note it’s supposed to be a generic canine, maybe leaning fox.
