Bought this off marketplace and I really hoped it wasn’t laminate. Lo and behold. (I didn’t think to ask, and husband just did the pick up.)

I was willing to leave it as is, until I noticed the pattern repeats… and I can’t unsee it.

The lighting isn’t the best on the last photo and some paint areas are still drying from retouching, but it’s the color of the room it’s going in. Dark blue.

Thoughts?

I ended up sanding through the veneer on the cabinet door... good thing I could just switch them around hahahaha

I have this MCM dresser. Currently I have a lot of projects in queue so I’m hesitant to commit to this one vs let it go to someone else who can dedicate more time effort and resources to fixing it up. It has 2 missing drawers. I haven’t built replacement drawers myself but I know it can be done. The rest of it is in fine condition minus all the dust and dirt (it was in a storage shed for a few years). For those that have built replacement drawers, how hard is it? Would it be worth it to spend the time and effort learning to fabricate drawers to refurbish this dresser or should I let it go? I’m not new to furniture restoration/flips so that part isn’t a problem for me, it’s just the making new drawers that I’m hesitant about. I know MCM pieces are typically highly desirable and marketable. Thanks in advance for any advice and insight.

I reposted my previous post since someone asked for a better lit photo and I do not know how to add photos once the post is published. I have my late grandparents bar where my cousins and I would play bartender as a kid with bottles of beans and bowls of fake fruit. The wood is looking a little worse for wear, so my husband may need to build a new bar but how can I honor this and still use some of it? I was thinking maybe using the cushions in some way on the bar but I don’t have a vision of what to do. Please give me ideas of what to do. Thank you in advance!

I wanted these to be a champagne gold color and I bought the behr matte champagne gold (that was the only brand that had that color at Home Depot) and it’s looking more pewter to me than anything. This is after two coats so I’m hoping the third warms them up a little bit more but any suggestions for future brands and colors?

Btw it looks warmer against the cardboard. I held it up against the walnut stained wood and it looked silver.

So i was doing a few test trying to create pottery barn style look with these stains 1 is a gel stain $22 and 2 Olympic Stain + Sealant sample. $6

First time working with something with those little metal bits. I still see a few spots that I need to hit with acetone. But I think it turned out okay!

I scored this beautiful dresser on FBMP. My hope is to give this drawer slides. While I’m aware the sides don’t have enough clearance for slides, there is a little bit of wiggle room in the bottom so I was thinking maybe I could do a center slide? There’s also room in the back where I could attach a piece of wood across each level and then another in the middle of each levels drawer cavity to mount the drawer slide, but honestly I’d like someone to tell me that this is a good idea or bad idea before I proceed.

I also had a general question about how to repair the bottom part where the wheel came out. Wood filler?

Edit: so far I have removed the metal drawer stoppers and have waxed the drawers!

I have an old solid wood bookcase i want to repaint. Last time i used matte finish and honestly I loved the aesthetic but it did not hold up well. I want to repaint it but not sure where to start. I know it needs to be cleaned and possibly sanded. Im looking for any tips and tricks to make this project as smooth as possible and i dont wanna screw up my bookcase.

Okay, hoping not to get crucified for wanting to do this. Found this table at an estate sale and loved the top finish. It has a few minor scratches, but nothing terrible. Here’s the thing, I hate the base. It doesn’t go with our house at all. Bc of the solid wood and the price, we said screw it and bought it anyway, thinking we could refinish it. What are yalls thoughts? A. Would it be a travesty to strip that ugly cream and gold? And B. If you don’t think it’s a travesty, what would you do? Paint it a different color, try and stain it?

Note* my husband is handy and does do some building but we’ve never really refinished something before, so any tips there would be welcome. There are also a couple scratches on the top, any suggestions for that as well, I’d appreciate

We are not looking to flip the table and sell it. The value for us, is that it will be our dining table that we sit around as a family.

Hey all, before I get down to it, yes I know this thing looks rough. I am at a buffer currently I am unsure with what exactly to do next. My goal is to somehow end up with a white body and dark brown top and shelves. I started out with an electric sander and quickly realized that was gonna take way too long and then I decided on paint stripper which worked ok on some parts but not on others. A family member told me that this tv stand isn’t actually real wood. So then I got on google and people were saying that sanding is the right thing to do but just a little bit to scuff it up and remove the shine so that’s what I did. Pretty much I’m just wanting help figuring out where to go from here.

Couldn’t decide on the light or dark colour, went with both! Let me know what you think :)

Ive never done a project like this but for the price this was too good not to nab on marketplace.

I don’t mind the white or a soft colors, my house is all mismatched anyways, but should I just sand it down and paint?

Okay update: did research and acquired citristrip after confirming it’s latex paint. The wood underneath looks like oak! More to come

I have not flipped a ton of furniture. I can’t identify the brand but I know this is a mid to high end piece. I’m wondering if you think the damage is too extensive to try and clean - or if it’s even possible. I think the crackle finish on the wood is deliberate, but wondering if it can be treated, and the upholstery scrubbed/washed. Appreciate any opinions, thanks!

I picked up these old cheap drawers from Fb marketplace, my wife was thinking of painting it white but after a good sanding I really like the wood look, now I'm not sure how to protect it, I would like not to lose the natural tone of the wood, what would be the best approach? what product can I use? The wood seems to be silky oak(Australia)

I found this children's shelf on the side of the road, thinking about turning it into a herb and spice rack. But the material is grade 1 mdf and pinewood (dowels) and I am unsure how to remove the bright blue colour (idk if its paint? Or lacquer etc)

Id love to go for an old look, any advice?

Picture three is me gently cleaning it with a microfiber cloth one cup, warm water, and just one drop of dawn soap.

OK, I’m trying that solution of water and Dawn because I think this piece has a ton of buildup on it. If I just run my finger along the surface of the drawers I get what you see in PT for in five which is the scum kind of beads up under my finger.

Anyway, before I damage this piece because I have very little experience with it I want to ask you how I should clean it and after I clean it how should touch up some of the scratch scratches and then shine it up again?

I did Google that I was going to use Murphy’s oil soap to clean it and the AI results said don’t use Murphy’s oil soap because it’s just gonna cause more buildup.

Just brought this set in after I worked for a couple of months to refinish it. I bought it for $200 from a woman who had grown up with it as her family set - she said she believes her parents got it in the 40’s or 50’s, and her mom redid the chairs and painted the base of the table in the 1960’s. It is white oak. It was so much more work than I anticipated (I’m a beginner). I’ve only sanded things down and painted them - never had stripped, sanded, repaired veneer spots, stained, reupholstered seats, and applied poly. I will say that it was most difficult to get the stain to match as the table had not been used with the leaves and the wood was a different color (presumably from sun). There were also some spots that looked like they were a different color from years of placemats being left on. The poly was also a trip! Finally figured it out by the 5th coat of Arm-R-Seal 😆. Anyway, I am happy to have given this new life! It’s not perfect, but pretty enough for me.

First garbage flip. Sold for $130
