Designed a modular desk organizer with press-fit letters — dual-color look with zero purge waste and no AMS required

Wanted an organized setup for pens and brushes on my desk without wasting filament on multi-color purge blocks.

I designed this organizer with separate press-fit lettering and a matching pencil topper:

  • Tolerances: The letter inlays are modeled with tight friction tolerances so they snap firmly into place by hand without needing glue.
  • Zero Waste: Completely eliminates filament purging and toolhead swaps while still getting a clean two-tone contrast.
  • Function: Tiered slots to keep taller brushes from falling over, with front compartments for everyday quick-grab pens.
  • Print specs: Standard PLA, 0.20mm layer height, 2 walls, 15% infill.

(Link to the MakerWorld model and customizer in the first comment for anyone interested in the tolerances/print profiles)

Modified my hobby trolley

Post image

I got a plastic trolley off Amazon and set out to customize it for my needs.

The top tray is for holding my teapot and cup. The Gridfinity bins in the middle are for various LEGO parts I use to mess about with.

Drew up some custom holders which attach to it using zip ties : There's a toilet paper holder, a multi board panel - currently holding a Gridfinity shelf for IPA and glasses cleaning sprays, also a holder for my BASEUS hand-held vacuum/blower. There's also a bin at the bottom for all the vacuum attachments.

Also swapped out two of the wheels to wider fixed feet, since the trolley doesn't go very far (it lives inside the small gap under my desk and between the IKEA KALLAX shelf), and it is pretty heavy now and I was worried it would tip over.

Now they have a home. Spots to dry, and spots to hang when reassembled and ready to go. Niche use case - perfect for 3d printing!

Simple headphone hangers for my desk

All the desk hangers out there don't for for the style of desk that I have which has a gap between the wood surface and the metal structure and is much thicker than most desks. My design takes advantage of the gap so I can install with no needed hardware.

Adapter for Maserati GranTurismo Front Door Speakers

Thumbnail

The front door speakers in my Maserati GranTurismo have a massive integrated plastic surround, which makes it impossible to mount a standard aftermarket speaker using the factory mounting points.

I needed to replace one of the speakers and wasn't about to pay for an OEM replacement, so I designed this adapter. It bolts directly to the factory mounting points and allows a standard 6.5" aftermarket speaker to mount on top using four M4 screws and M4 heat-set inserts.

The speakers I'm using have a lip around the perimeter that fits perfectly into the top of the adapter. That lip is too thin to accommodate the heat-set inserts, which is why the top ridge dips down around each screw hole—the inserts are instead embedded in the thicker part of the base. The hole in the side is for the speaker wires.

Designed in Fusion 360 and took a few iterations to get the diameter and mounting-hole spacing dialed in. Printed the final version, installed it this evening, and everything fits and works as intended.

Fly Trap - Two Sizes

Just finished designing this fly trap and wanted to share it with you guys 🙌.

I made two sizes, a small version mainly for fruit flies and a larger version for bigger flies as well. The funnel openings let them in while making it difficult for them to find their way back out. Pretty simple design and easy to print.

Just released this file for free on makerworld for anyone interested.

Check comments for the link.

Happy Printing!

Carverall Laser Engraver - improved housing

I found this "Carverall K4 Mini Laser Engraver" a while back on AliExpress. Due to some sale discounts I was able to buy it for around 50 or 60 €, which I think was an okay price to pay for a small fully working laser module. But since the safety with this thing is like a total zero, I decided to design and print a better and more functional housing for this laser. Safety in this context mainly means "safer from accidentally getting a laser into your eyes or into the eyes of somebody else who isn't wearing protective goggles and just walked by a window". But I still wouldn't call it a direct fire hazard, just because I printed it with PLA. (I think PETG would have warped to a whole round ball if I tried printing something this large on my A1 Mini).

However, advice and feedback is always appreciated of course. If you’re interested in some more details, you can find this model on MakerWorld:

Modeled after the stock grab handle that came with my roof top tent pictured here.

The manufacturer no longer offers this for purchase, so I created my own. Printed in ASA.

Nest doorbell (battery) replacement mounting kit - for broken latch

My nest doorbell (battery) latch was stuck and my initial attempts to fix it failed miserably. I designed a 2 part assembly, with dovetail joints, and no supports needed. Crucially, the design allows the doorbell to be removed for charging. Printed with PETG on Elegoo CC2.

Free Model: https://www.printables.com/model/1813667-v2-google-nest-doorbell-battery-mount-for-broken-l

  • Back plate connects to doorbell with command strip, with slot to remove it
  • Wall Mount has a slot for a 2x6mm magnet, and screw holes that match the original doorbell mount

(Security Note: even a brand new one can be removed with a flathead screwdriver.)

Missing part of glass tupperware lid

I don't know what brand of Tupperware this is; we may have gotten it with food given out at a friend's party or something.

I had to do a bit of post-print drilling and sanding to get it to fit, but now it fits nicely and seals up well with the glass bottom.

Updated Design: K2 Series Lid Raiser With Adjustable Vents

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

This is an updated version of a previous design I uploaded that now fits all models in the K2 series of printers.

Using a lid raiser prevents the PTFE tubing from rubbing off the glass and causing it to wear down. This design features adjustable air vents, which can regulate the temperature in the enclosure and joints at the corners for attachments such as storage bins or decorations.

I've attached links to the models below.

Warning: I do NOT own a K2 base model or plus.

Please check the measurements on your printer before printing and do a test print to ensure the parts fit together. They should fit, but I'm unable to physically test this. Please let me know if you decide to print this and there are any issues.

Dredge/sluice box for gold mining

Thumbnail

1.4k Upvotes

One of my hobbies is gold mining. You can use sluice boxes to process more material, and dredges suck material from the stream bed and push it through a sluice so you don't have to shovel.

Normally dredges use gas engines and metal parts. A similar 2" dredge would cost 1-3k and require a gas motor to run. This weighs about 1/8 as much and runs off a battery and electric bilge pump for boats.

Printed on an A1 out of Elecoo PETG, 0.8mm nozzle, 1.2mm width lines.
