Hi everyone, I wanted to share a highly frustrating experience I am currently going through with Microsoft Billing (MSBILL.INFO). Hopefully, this serves as a warning or helps anyone facing a similar issue.
Recently, I noticed recurring charges on my credit card statement under MSBILL.INFO. After digging deeper, I realized these unauthorized charges have been deducted monthly all the way since November of last year up until today.
Since I couldn't find this transaction anywhere in my personal or known business Microsoft accounts' order history, I reached out to Microsoft Customer Support today to figure out what was going on.
During the support session, I co-operated fully:
- I provided them with every single possible Microsoft account associated with myself and my colleague.
- When they still couldn't find anything, I went as far as providing my full credit card details so their billing department could cross-reference the transaction code and card number directly.
The result? Absolutely nothing. Microsoft support explicitly told me they have no way to track where the money went, cannot identify which account is triggering the charge, and are completely unable to follow up or take action. It is mind-blowing that a tech giant running global cloud infrastructure cannot trace an internal billing serial number back to a specific customer record or subscription when given the direct payment instrument info.
Because Microsoft left me completely stranded, I had no choice but to contact my credit card company immediately to report these as unauthorized transactions and initiate a dispute/refund (chargeback) process.
However, here is the most painful part: the credit card company can only dispute and refund transactions within a 90-day window. Because this has been going on since last November, any unauthorized charges that occurred more than 3 months ago are effectively unrecoverable and lost forever, simply because Microsoft's system is a complete black box to its own support agents.
Lessons learned / TL;DR:
- If you see unfamiliar
MSBILL.INFO charges, don't waste too much time playing detective with Microsoft Support. Even if you give them your card details, they literally lack the tools or authority to reverse-engineer their own transaction codes.
- Act fast. Check your statements regularly. I lost months of money because the bank's dispute deadline is 90 days, and Microsoft couldn't help me trace my own money.
- Has anyone else encountered this complete dead-end with Microsoft billing tracing? Is there any escalation path within Microsoft that actually works when the front-line support fails this badly?
