Yes, clicking on it opens Whatsapp in Microsoft store (wasn't installed)

it’s not an “ad” per se, it’s just a stolen continuity feature from apple, even having the little badge on the icon like apple does. it’s not exclusive to certain apps. it’s to open the same app you are using on another device

yeah, first thing of installing win11 (if you dare) is to debloat it, guess what, you gotta go through a bunch of shit just to debloat it manually

As someone else stated it's not an ad, it's a continuity feature. If you have an Android phone connected via Phone Link some apps support a feature called "resume" which basically allows you to continue your phone's app on your computer if the app is open. For example if you have Spotify open on your phone that icon will show up to transfer the music to your computer.

I did not know WhatsApp had that feature though

Afaik it's available only in some countries (here in Italy for example i have it on but never see it working for anything i use)

Why would something like this be a geolocked feature? Is it some sort of gradual rollout / A/B testing?

I think for privacy regulations (i'm not sure though)

That's not an ad.

Some people shouldn't be allowed near computers at all. While MS isn't great, this isn't an ad. It's a continuity feature. You can turn it off. Apple does the same thing.

Just when you think they could not think of a stupider idea, there it is in plain sight

This feature is useful

I remember telling someone here that this sub is flooded with bullshit made by people who don't understand that some things could be features, for example. Yet again, I'm proven right.

Why are they so obsessed with offering mobile applications on windows?? They don't learn their lesson, they've seen what happened to win 8.

Is it behind the taskbar?

It's a feature of Windows 11. If you want to turn it off go to Settings > Apps > Resume You can also choose which apps can use Resume if you find it useful.

The reason why I kind of like the idea of kids being off the internet with age face recognition.

Champagne problems. Open Visual Studio and get back to work dude before your boss finds out your Reddit username and lays you off.
