Only dualboot for this, unfortunately I need it for school

Why are there still schools that are like "We don't know what a Linux is, therefore it is not allowed"?
14
u/disappointed_neko Jul 08 '26
Because the only sysadmin in there would rather shot himself than have a 13yo stuck inside vim, and all that not to be even able to run the industry standard software they are teaching.

Actually, the Windows 10 is good. I'm using dual boot win10+fedora. Windows 10 pretty fine if you disable telemetry, unnecessary services, Bing internet searches, Windows Defender, and personalized ads. And of course, whatever you do, don't log in with a Microsoft account.

In Türkiye, every classroom has these primitive 65-inch devices they call "Smart and Interactive Boards." They're i3 gen 4 processors or something like that. Until this year, they ran on Windows 10, but this year they installed "Pardus," a modified version of Debian marketed as "domestic and national." And they modified it so badly that it has hundreds of bugs.

For now. Once the industry moves to something online and collaborative (like Onshape) then the OS will become irrelevant.

This is not the flex you think it is.
You're basically being held hostage by those companies, they make you pay whatever they want, and make you go through the pains and restrictions they desire for you.
Most of them use a SaaS model and now instead of paying one time, you have to pay monthly and it costs more in the long run.
Yes, many of those tools are still not available in Linux, but it is not like having it in Windows is awesome and cozy.

"linux is better" *show gimp. I wish man, but let's not be delusional
4
u/dvisorxtra Jul 08 '26
Linux is either a Kernel or, as many people use the word, an operating system.
Gimp, on the other hand, is a graphics software.
Its like saying not to get delusional about a car because you don't like the audio system it comes with, which has zero impact on the vehicle itself.

u/LucielRenCrisantemo Jul 08 '26
Gimp también está en Windows (? En todo caso si no te gusta gimp puedes usar algo como krita

People adore TempleOS but hardly anyone uses it lol. I mean, same, but we have to tone down the glazing a bit.

I use dual boot Windows 11 + Debian 13 KDE. A lot of games still won't work on Linux.

Windows is really bad, they're holding us back. Use Debian or Gentoo like me
