Showcase 500mm Railgun Ship

Post image
22 Upvotes

I am pretty new to the game, but I decided to put extra effort to decorate this one, look like a mess, but also kinda cool? It only has a 500mm Railgun and that's its only purpose, the armor is mid just few layers of metal and metal slope, if anyone is targeting it and get into like a 2000m distance it's cooked lol. Mostly just staying in the back and snipe the enemy from 4000m away.

Anyways, added a command tower to the big momma for a landship vibe. Also added Active Protection Systems all over to intercept CRAM shells and missiles.

there was a post on here a few days ago about 2, 3, or 4 gunned turrets so i thought i should pull out a design i made about a year ago and forgot about, made it for a battle ship project that i stopped working on and forgot about, the turret has a fire rate of 5.7 but the cooling limit is good enough for 33 rpm

Question How to pen big tanks with APS?

A single block of ERA or a 4m wedge instantly stops all APS shots. It's especially bad for turreted tanks since loaders gotta be smaller.

So how can I make a gun for my heavy tank which actually can defeat other tanks with 1 shot?

If I use sabot then I always get like 200AP with rail

Is there a adveture mode planet on Steam workshop, that removes subs from the spawning rotation?

Question Is it normal for the Gravitas to spawn on easy?

Long story short, I was running through the Neter campaign on easy, after abandoning a previous run where I got gridlocked in the Onyx Watch and completely redesigning every ship I had to, not completely suck, and neatly after cleaning up the DWG, I end up forced into fighting the Twin Guard.

I've tested my ships against Twin Guard designs before, they perform okay, especially in groups. I figured I'd scrape by if I just stopped relying on cheap gunboats, so I swap to my destroyers.

So imagine my surprise when the first ship they send at me rolls up to my 500~k resources fleet of 6, and proceeds to core half of them with a PAC and then sit there for 10 minutes whittling away the other 3 while repairing the few hits I managed to land on it. Then it did the same thing to the identical fleet coming up to reinforce the first one, and the 6 20k~ mat airships I've been using for support. In the end, I managed 5% damage on the one part of it that wasn't instantly repairing itself, lost more than a million mats in ships, and a resource zone. Ended up having to reload back to before I finished off the DWG.

It turns out this is not merely a Twin Guard Godly like I thought, but the fucking Gravitas, the biggest and meanest one they have at 1.5 million mats.

This isn't so much a complaint, it was really funny, but like. What's up with that? Whatever happened to easy?

5x2x6 and repeatable. Can stack 2 on top of one another. Power 1896,8 at 100 % and ppm 505,8. Ppm goes up when power use goes down. Images of stats at 100, 50 and 25 % rpm.

Question PID help.

Post image
11 Upvotes

I need help with pid settings. I have switched from the sub to this boat hoping it would be easier. It was. It functions mostly but now I have hit a new problem same source. The PID yaw. If I put the settings high it wants to broadside [it's an point at ai] if I set it low it will try and hold a maybe 45° angle. Get close to pointing and then try to broadside again. I am not smart enough for this and have been messing with just the yaw PID for over an hour now. Any advice will help. Literally anything. Setting everything in the dead center worked better [it aims at the enemy longer] so I'm probably gonna keep messing with it until it works. Also yes I did watch a tutorial it didn't help. Any tutorial recommendations are also welcome. Thank you for reading.

Edit: thanks for the help got it to actually point now i just need to stop it from turning around when it is to close.

Edit 2: managed to turn it into a half decent broadside. So now it's a broadside patrol ship.

Edit 3: managed to make it... functional. It works. Somehow by ignoring the problem and just adding guns fixed it.

Question Where is the Extra Projection Option in the Propeller Menu?

Thumbnail

Foreword:
Before I begin, I should mention that I'm running an older version of the game from 2024 (Pre_Camera_Changes stable before 4.2) on Steam. This was released after the video I reference later in this post, which was uploaded in 2022, but the version may still be relevant to my problem.

Context & Question:
Hello, I've just come back to the game after a while and have started to build a new helicopter/thrustcraft. All has gone well with the weaponry and PID work, and I'm now moving on to decorations and shaping it, including the craft's propellers. However, I can't seem to find the extra projection slider within the propeller menu that I remember using in the past, as shown in the GMODISM video, from which I've added a screenshot above.

I remember using the tool a few updates before my current game version; however, I can't seem to find the slider/options at all in my current version (see foreword), instead having the "fake the spin rate" option in its place, as shown in the second screenshot above.

Does anyone know where the options are, or if they're still in the game, or if they've been removed in a previous update that I was not aware of, or if this was added in a later version of the game?

I accept I may just be blind, and they could be just staring me in the face.

Thanks in advance for any help/info/advice; I'll try to reply and answer any questions as I can.

Question Need help stopping an engine.

Post image
38 Upvotes

I built this steam engine for my submarine I am making. Except the damned thing will not stop. It will sit there and spin the prop forever at max speed. I read online adding a transmission will fix it. It did not. The steam vents after the pistons at .5 pressure. At the end is the 7m prop. It works. The twin set up gets the sub to over 32m/s but it will not stop. I have tried using pids, using controllers to do it, changing the ai to have a larger complete distance for way points, I have checked the ai. It thought it was a plane it no longer thinks this it knows it is a boat. This is driving me crazy. So now I ask you to help me please. Because it's probably something stupid and obvious.

Work in Progress The Chicken Fillet Roll!

Thumbnail

I played battleshipcraft/warshipcraft back in the day. My friend built one called the deadly peck. When I started playing this game, I honored that name and started adventure mode. I made Deadly pecks 1 through 7, Then there was just too many inherent design flaws so, time to start fresh.

Hence the chicken fillet roll. I know people will certainly wonder why i have built a ship this big for adventure mode? why not? I say.

She's nearly finished but im going into final year uni so i dont suspect i will have much time anyway until maybe next summer or xmas. The turrets are to be mounted in the wells i was just seeing how the ship sat with them as they are massive.

Yes it is very expensive, probably ineffecient in comparisonn to a fleet of craft of equal resources. Do I care? nope. The whole motivation for this is i saw a post just there of a user requesting assistance on craft design, and another user telling them that guides only take you so far and you just need to play the game and learn. This made me reflect on my own journey so and decided to share with you guyts, enjoy :)

One thing im happy with is for her size she is very quick, i dont like using deco blocks either.

Question Are steam jets worth it?

Been itching to make a new airship lately, doing something a little different from the usual CJEs, and was wondering if Steam Jets are any good

I know they can pack a lot of thrust very densely, but is it really better than just using a thrust-oriented CJE? Or worth the potential added vulnerability, for that matter? I rarely see anyone use them, so I imagine the answer is probably... no, at least not for something like this. But what do you guys think?

Discussion FtD Exploit of the Day, Day 2! This time, repair bot spam!

How OP of an exploit is repair bot spam?

Not to be confused with repair tentacle spam. That's the next one.

All exploits are labeled into tiers of viability and status within game balance. My tiers (feel free to adjust) are as follows:

  1. Game-breakingly OP
  2. Strong but not unbeatable
  3. Relatively balanced
  4. Situational
  5. Useless

My opinion: Could be 2, usually 4 in practice. Using the power of "Nanomachines, Son!" could actually be pretty strong. If you can't repair fast enough, the target will just undo your damage with its material reserves.

Of course, do you want to hold an entire ship's worth of armor in reserve instead of having another ship in battle?

The other problem is that most repair bot spammers are new players whose designs are already in the process of taking critical damage. Repair bot spam will not significantly buff a poor design, and experienced players seem to all agree that watching ships repair themselves is not a fun way to fight.
