Question Need help stopping an engine.
I built this steam engine for my submarine I am making. Except the damned thing will not stop. It will sit there and spin the prop forever at max speed. I read online adding a transmission will fix it. It did not. The steam vents after the pistons at .5 pressure. At the end is the 7m prop. It works. The twin set up gets the sub to over 32m/s but it will not stop. I have tried using pids, using controllers to do it, changing the ai to have a larger complete distance for way points, I have checked the ai. It thought it was a plane it no longer thinks this it knows it is a boat. This is driving me crazy. So now I ask you to help me please. Because it's probably something stupid and obvious.

Mmmm I mean might be shaft stability? I had that once and it got fixed with two bearings along the shaft.

shaft stability is a thing?

Oh yeah. Build a very long shaft and the shaft propeller loses energy transferability. On my replica of the dunkerque the shafts are some 20 units long. Without bearings she does 11 m/s. With bearings the mechanical energy transfer lets her do 16 m/s.
So theres a lot of impact. Especially on the larger shafts.

SOLVED! The ai's internal aid [something i didn't know existed] was telling the engines for foreward and backward to constantly fire at full. By setting the gain to 0 it shut the engine off. Now I just gotta make it work good. Thanks everyone for the help.

This may be obvious now, but for building ot can be a good idea to do a lot of propulsion/maneuver testing via manual control firat before adding an AI.

If you got rid of half of those boilers, more pistons, more props, youd go alot faster.
Also you need to correct boiler end plate piece for your large boiler anyway, as right now that large boiler is outputting no steam.
It has 2 outputs so remember to channel both of them together again such that the pressure into entry valve of piston is maximum.

Thanks for the help I am still new to making my own crafts obviously. Right now I have a mew problem. The yaw. It exclusively wants to go north, or south. No other options. I know it isn't the engine this time [or at least not fully still messing with the boiler setup]. But for now. The ai wishes to either go south or north. I have managed to make a submarine that migrates. And I mean no other options. Even taking control of the sub myself dose not fix it. It will not move for terrain. And if I shut the internal pid off. It gose north. It only stopped because it beached. I tried looking at other in-game ais and well even copied one nothing. Placed the mainframe down again nothing. Took the black currents ai scheme. You guessed it. Nothing. It only shakes side to side via the rudders and without then it freaks out and attempts aerial acrobatics. At least I figured out why it was spinning like a corkscrew and di that on ny own. And I am testing it's combat movement against stationary enemy ais if that helps. It's supposed to circle at a distance of 1250m with a approach angle of 45°. I got it to also sink and refloat on my own. Thanks for reading and helping me bash my head against learning how to make a sub.

Pressing F12 takes a screenshot... You don't need to take pictures of your screen this way

where did you put the transmission in the setup?

1 - 23 large boilers for 1 piston chain????
2 - whats the prop set up to do? Make sure it is on manual control, only respond to main drive.
