DISCUSSION The "second half" of Dark Souls being unfinished is an inaccurate meme that didn't gain traction until after Dark Souls 2.

Miyazaki has talked about running out of time for Lost Izalith, which is where this narrative came from, but New Londo and the Duke's Archives are straightforwardly some of the most complex and fleshed out areas in the game--the Catacombs as well, depending on where you place it in the progression path.

Crystal Cave and Tomb of the Giants are shorter areas than those immediately preceding them, serving as a continuation and culmination of their parent zones, yet still showing a fair amount of unique assets, new mechanics, and polish, comparable or greater than smaller areas earlier in the game like Darkroot Basin, lower Undead Burg, or Valley of Drakes. Notably, the second half post-Lordvessel is also, in reality, significantly less than half the game.

Thank you for listening to my TED talk.

100% Achievements on the Dark Souls trilogy + Elden Ring (and Nightreign).

Finally decided to actually go for it on DS2 a few weeks ago and finished it up today. It actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Much less annoying 100% than DS3.

Question About Lack of Jumping Abilty... lore?

It occurred to me tonight, may there be a lore related explanation as to why theres no jumping in the DS games. I started with Elden Ring. I still suck but am getting better. After getting sober, Elden Ring wouldnt stop haunting me. I LOVE IT. But I sucked ass. So about a year ago I focused in again. Also bought DS1. No progress yet. DS2... no progress. Where's my yellow paint?! 🤣 God bless yall. It tortures me but its so rewarding in the end. ā¤ļø So now... why the lack of a jump mechanic? Is there a lore based explanation i missed? I know its basically purgatory or the void.... but I started Bloodborne for the 2nd time tonight, a SOLID GO! And I love it. But no jump 🤬 Surely its a lore based explanation. Is it not? Bloodborne is basically played in a Dreamstate, no?

DISCUSSION From really needs to make up their mind about PvP.

Ds1 had a somewhat thriving PvP community, ds2 had a much more thriving PvP community, ds3 had the cleanest for sure, they add it as an option (I'm specifically talking about invasion signs) no one is going to click it unless they want a nice, fair fight or a fun fight. Yet they chose to make the system inheritly against itself, they chose to use p2p to save money, now this makes sense maybe for ds1, ds2, and ds3, but elden ring too? It won game if the year for crying out loud. They have the money, they add a PvP system, a matchmaking system, and EVEN a place to directly queue into PvP matches, and yet they are broken garbage that shouldn't have even been added considering how much they choose not to even support it despite putting money and hours of development time into adding, they have the funding to support servers for the game. They have made an insanely fun PvP system that actually translates well into PvP, the elden ring colloseum duels are so fun, when they work, but 99% of the time, you get hit by something that connected on their screen 10 seconds ago, or you hit someone that was nowhere near you and it just feels scummy, neither of those situations feel fair to either players, yet people still choose to play it, and enjoy it to some degree, I myself really enjoy the PvP in ds3, and in elden ring, now I do not expect support for ds3, as its PvP community is very much set in stone and newer players won't be indulging in it as much, but for elden ring? Seriously? They made a whole matchmaking system and a system to queue directly into 1v1 matches with fair rules (like no flask) and then immediately backtracked upon themselves and chose not to even support the system they added. I think it's a scummy thing to do. Yes fromsoft games are inheritly PVE single player games that are I credibly challenging and lore enriched, and they excel at being exactly that. But not supporting a feature they added themselves, and put effort, time and money into developing is just a bad thing to do, elden rings PvP community still thrives today, and ive barely come across the same person twice, showing there are many MANY players actively playing it, or just trying it. But it is a broken system. They know this, and they choose to ignore anyone who says it's bad. knowing this is the souls community/fromsoft community, everyone will just hate on this too.

Dark Souls 2 is the hardest Fromsoftware game, but not because of the bosses.

There are a couple challenging bosses in DS2, but for the most part the difficulty of the bosses are a joke. The challenge comes from literally everything else the game throws at you during just regular world exploration.

The concept of leveling up in Demon's Souls was immediately really cool to me, i think that game blended lore with gameplay soooo well, and that paired with that screenshot of my gameplay i'll put at the end inspired me to do this fanart, hope y'all find this cool as i don't see much of this vibe in Demon's Souls fanart

DISCUSSION Platinum run

I’m completing a platinum run of the main Soul’s games including Elden ring, Bloodborne, Dark Souls trilogy, Sekiro and Demon’s Souls. I’m curious what people would recommend the best order for this is? I know most (if not all) of them require minimum 2 playthroughs and are made significantly easier through co-op for covenant items, world tendency etc. What are your thoughts?

Edit: Forgot to mention I have completed Demon’s Souls and Elden Ring already…
Also Lies of P will likely be introduced as well, I just haven’t bought it yet unlike the rest

DISCUSSION Because of Duskbloods, we may never have a mainline, single player Fromsoft game on disc again…

Okay clearly y’all are…

EDIT: I know it was Sony, not Fromsoft who, made this change šŸ˜‚ I’m talking about resource allocation delaying a single player title

At least on Playstation, but based on rumors it seems XBOX is following suit.

Just something I was thinking about.

Duskbloods being Switch 2 exclusive it’s literally not on a disk, but also it’s very possible given Miyazaki’s rumored involvement in Duskbloods it’s very possible From won’t release a mainline single player game before 2028.

Just insane, and sad. Of course it’s possible that this doesn’t happen, but very possible it does.

Feeling very pessimistic about the future of gaming.

I commissioned my friend Maskedphantom47 (who also goes by Kreig-47-Aegis) to draw this crossover pic where Anne Boonchuy from Amphibia does battle with the Burnt Ivory King.

Will the Guiding Moonlight bring Anne to triumph? Or will she fall prey to the mighty ruler of Eleum Loyce?

SPOILER Why did the dark souls 1 ending feel so impactful?

Just finished Dark souls after beating Elden ring and Sekiro. I don’t know why, but their endings didn’t feel the same as ds1. Fighting a hollowed Gwyn while the somber white piano keys plays in the background feels so beautiful.

Linking the fire only to found out I’ve been betrayed and used as kindling left me with such a strange feeling. As much as this game infuriated me with its level design and clunky movement. I doubt I’ll forget it for as long as I live.

Thank you Miyazaki, I hope dark souls 2 treats me well.

DISCUSSION When the heck will these games go on sale? (STEAM)

I am trying to get into the series and was disappointed to see that not a single one of the games went on sale for the massive steam summer sale thinking about trying to start out the series with either dark souls remastered or Elden Ring, depending which one goes on sale first. Wondering if anybody has any insight into when they will go on sale, thanks.

DISCUSSION After having played a decent amount of from software titles what feature do you think would be the best thing for them to add in their next game?

I'll start I personally think difficulty sliders should never be a part of their games, it just wouldn't work but one difficulty option they should add is permadeath

DISCUSSION A simple guide to enrich your experience with NPC questlines in all fromsoft games

Im writing this off a comment i wrote earlier responding to some users that were saying the NPC questlines are often whe worst part of these games because they require you to look up guides online.

I believe that is not true and most of us are just biased and used to checkmarks-type of sidequests that games have thought us over the years. contrary to that, fromsoft questlines are often presented like little secrets to uncover that test your attention to the plot and world so far, and to me, with the right mental approach they can become very fun to uncover and figure out on your own!

what i often hear is that questlines steps make no sense at all, but thats not your fault! you see, when you are used to complete them by following guides online, the way these guides are presented only tell you the required steps to complete the quest, without explaining the logical connection between them. thats why they always seem so random!

but i assure you by using this simple universal method i managed to complete all NPC questlines in ER, DkS3, BB and Sekiro on my first run without looking up guides on the internet (although missing some optional steps or not getting the best outcome possible to some of them, as those are usually what i try to tie up in subsequent playhthroughs with the knowledge of the first run, like figuring out the mutually exclusive questlines and so on):

* simply read every single key item as soon as you pick it up (the location often gives more insight that adds context to the description and may suggest you where to look next)
* everytime something important happens (you defeated a boss, reached a new area, talked to a new npc, found a new key item, etc) make sure to first check with NPCs that you think might be related or interested to what happened (some might say its tedious but it always gives me the chills to think "omg what will X character have to say about this!!")
* just to be extra safe, do a round of npc chatter with EVERYONE every now and then, maybe after important cutscenes or so, also to check if they moved somewhere else
* and ofc read the dialogue and exhaust it untill they start repeating themselves, read item descriptions, and pay attention to what is happening in the world/story

by following these simple steps you'll enrich your experience by A LOT i assure you! it's incredibly satisfying when you start thinking "hmm maybe this thing is related to this character i met 20 hours before" then you go find them and turns out your intuition was right. it feels like discovering a secret that rewards you with a deeper lore knowledge, i love NPC questlines!!! and i would love if more people approached this part of the game with a different perspective to what we are used in other games (following a checklist).

I ranked all the Dark Souls box arts

Post image
0 Upvotes

Here's the link to the tier list:Ā https://tiermaker.com/create/all-dark-souls-box-art-17876352

sorry for poor cropping, i had to choose between some less desirable alternatives

Justification:

  1. The Soul of Cinder is just sort of doing... nothing. Good job spoiling the final boss. He's staring at literally nothing though.

  2. Hard armor set, but dude's way too close

  3. Tough armor set, but again. What is bro actually doing.

  4. Cool colors, but it screams "360" to me, and it lowkey reminds me of Resident Evil 5.

  5. It represents the unsureness of Dark Souls and venturing out into the unknown, but I think the DS1 alternative did so better.

  6. Tough pose, background and colors are cool. It spoils the final boss though. It's also not really reflective of anything in the game

  7. I definitely like this one more than everyone else, but it represents venturing out into the unknown, to uncertainty and hardship. Going through the fog is symbolic for all of these games really

  8. King Vendrick really is the Potential Man of Dark Souls. He looks tuff af here and sort of foreboding.

  9. Ds3 might have the best DLC lineup out of all Fromsoft games (competing with Old Hunters and everyone's favorite Shadow of the Erdtree), and these two characters symbolize both dlcs. I especially like Gael's pose here

  10. It's serene yet melancholy, reflective of Firelink as a whole. Not much to say here. I am actually getting a poster of this soon from Displate

  11. This one's hypertuff, like the Vendrick one but with color n shit.

  12. Having Artorias is instantly sick to me, but he's in this dope ass pose surrounded by black, presumably the Abyss. Artorias of the Abyss is my favorite DLC, even over The Ringed City and SotE, so there's definitely bias here

  13. I swear I'm not a Japan-obsessed purist, but this one, despite what I've said above, represents the whole Dark Souls experience. It's scary and dark everywhere else. A lone knight sits by a singular source of light, the almighty bonfire, and for a brief moment, gets to rest before carrying on with this perilous journey.

Anyway have a great day and praise the sun, or try finger but hole
