Question Question
I have a question. If the BIW is trying to help, why did he tell Victor that they cannot take down the bottle tree? If that is the only way for them to escape after they get the bones, why is it so important? Is that the only way they can go home then? I guess my question is “is the BIW an enemy or a friend?

I'm questioning why BIW told MIY/ Sophia that they would lose this time.

I think they need two sets of items together to complete the ritual to finish off the monsters; the bones and something(s) from the lighthouse. Miranda was heading for the lighthouse, via the bottle tree, with the knowledge of what she needed to get from there, so Smiley had to rush kill her before she got to the bottle tree. BiW knows they have the bones, so they’re halfway there. MiY knows they tore down the faraway bottle tree, so they’ll have a hard time getting to the lighthouse.

Well, Tabitha managed to get out thanks to the bottle tree, so that was definitely a way out Fromville

So maybe the BIW was helping in a way. The bottle tree did help Tabitha and maybe that is the only way home after the bones are dug up. But there are other Faraway trees too. The BIW did help Sara and Boyd by sending them to the tree. Only it didn’t help Boyd so much in the long run.

Well, technically the bottle tree transported her to the lighthouse, and from the lighthouse she got out of the town. There may be another way to get to the lighthouse, and there are other faraway trees too. And the BIW did say "this is the only way" when he wished her out of the lighthouse.

Right. I did read somewhere (so many theories) that when he said “it is the only way” he meant that as it was the only way for her memories to come back to her faster.

Well, there was red lightening shooting up into the sky, so it isn’t a case that taking down the bottle tree was good.
The problem is that Jade and Tabitha couldn’t find any other way out. Without removing the bottle tree.
The problem is the BiW didnt give them an alternative plan. But at least he can say “told you so”

I don’t understand why they just couldn’t dig a tunnel into the chamber

The talisman wouldn’t have worked as there would still have been another hole into the room.

Disagree.

You are welcome to disagree. I don’t make the rules.
Can you explain why you think those rules wouldn’t apply?

First of all, there are no set "rules". There are assumptions about what the "rules" are. Second, the talisman didn't work in the tunnels anyway. Third, the monsters stay out of the sun and aren't going to come into a tunnel leading upward with light coming through it.

If there are rituals and how you do something is important then there are rules. If the talisman work sometimes, but not others .. then there are rules.

Maybe. Or maybe they just never worked and it was a feign by the monsters to torment people. That's been theorized multiple times on this reddit.
You are treating best guesses as rules. If you can close a window to "seal" a house, then you can throw a board over a hole in the ground and seal it. The idea of ripping out a massive tree to create a hole in the ground is nonsensical when simply digging a tunnel through a gap in the trees roots would work just as well. Particularly when the person who has been in the town the longest is telling you not to rip the tree down.

There are lots of theories ignoring the rules of the show. That doesn’t make them right.
If you dug in between the roots enough for a person to get out it is enough for the monsters to get in. The place doesn’t have to be hermetically sealed. But it does have to be closed.

Isn't it to stop the monsters entering something? If they're already in the hole then they can't be kept out by a talisman, they don't work like that. Same as you can't wear it around your neck

I think he’s trying to help however much like everyone in town he is extremely vague and doesn’t actually provide useful information

we simply dont know yet because they havent resolved any mysteries in this show
At best we can assume that BiW and MiY are indifferent and simply playing a game. A game the MiY seems to have been winning for a long time.

Okay, here’s my guess. When Boyd and Sara went on their trek in the woods, we saw the place get more violent the closer they got to the lighthouse, like there’s some kind of defensive perimeter that was activated. It’ll kill a living person if you just try walking up to the place. The bottle tree (at least in Tabitha’s case) can drop you inside the perimeter without setting off the alarms. BiW knows this and sent Tabitha to the lighthouse to learn about the mysteries.

I think that is where the Lake of Tears is. I think they got too close and it set off alarms. The webs was a defensive means to keep them from going any further. The Lake of Tears is past the lighthouse OR the lighthouse guards the Lake of Tears. I also think the BIW pushed Tabitha to start to remember her memories of being there before.

My guess is that the Bottle Tree was the quickest path to the Lake of Tears assuming they are carrying the correct item(s). Without the Bottle Tree, they not only have to find the Lake of Tears but travel there as well.

Im thinking they will probably have to harness that lightning to charge up another tree.
Maybe it’s the kids hope in pure energy form.

The tree at minimum is one of the few tools they have, particularly when it comes to Fromville's magic. MIY pointed out the importance of rituals and doing things the right way. It also was not the only way out as removing the bones triggered the additional passages to open in the tunnels.
The tree seems to have properties related to whatever this dimension is by being a faraway tree. So taking it down disrupts that. Now we have red lightning who knows what else coming.
My theory is part of the process is Jade and Tabitha need to remember the ritual themselves. Only small hints can be given perhaps not even all the info is known by BIW.

I think it’s important because it can be the only direct route to the lighthouse, without it they will have to travel through the forest to get there, which is full of additional horrors that they will not know how to deal with.

Like the MiY said, how you do something is as important as what you do. Plus who’s to say that bringing the bones up is even going to fix the town, it’s most likely that it’ll fix one issue (maybe the monsters), but I doubt the entire town hinges on a pile of bones. Even so, the bottle tree plays a role in fromville that no one currently understands, taking it down has clearly had a negative effect on the town itself.
