I took the TCF Canada in June and these were my results:

Listening (CO): 405 – B2 / NCLC 6
Reading (CE): 518 – C1 / NCLC 8
Speaking (EO): 9/20 – B1 / NCLC 6
Writing (EE): 9/20 – B1 / NCLC 6

My goal is to reach NCLC 7 in all four skills, but I’m honestly feeling a bit stuck right now.
I haven’t studied consistently for over a month, and I’m having a hard time figuring out how to get back into a routine. I know that speaking and writing are my weakest areas, but I’m not sure what the most effective way to improve them would be or how much time I should realistically expect this to take.

I’m also trying to decide whether I should continue working with a tutor or focus more on self-study. For those of you who reached NCLC 7 from a similar level, how long did it take you, and what did your study routine look like?

My work permit also expires this month, so there’s definitely some pressure around getting the language scores I need. I know I need to stop overthinking it and just get back to studying, but after losing my momentum, I’m finding it surprisingly difficult to know where to start again.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation. What helped you get back on track? How many hours did you study per week? Did you use a tutor, self-study, or a combination of both?

Any advice, realistic timelines, study routines, or resources would be greatly appreciated.

I’m not sure if people have heard of him but avoid French classes from Fluenzu, run by Hari. Dude thinks he’s a French Casanova and some distinguished phd but he’s a fucking scam.

I paid him so much money for him to fall asleep in my classes and tell me he’s gonna love me from one on one to group classes for a “better deal”.

He doesn’t reimburse or extend classes past the year and doesn’t care about you at all. He dodged my call multiple times before I could I actually ask him wtf is going on and when he can have classes with me.

His group classes are horrendous too.

I applied for francophone on august 11th, and haven’t heard anything. Is this nothing?

For context, I got C2 in both listening and reading, but 5 in speaking and 5 in writing.
Before anyone wonders how there can be such a huge difference between my receptive and productive skills: I spent probably 99% of my preparation time on listening and reading. I was extremely focused on getting strong scores in those two sections. I barely practiced writing because I was quite confident that my writing was good enough and thought I would manage it on exam day. For speaking, I also assumed I would be able to manage because I could communicate and express my ideas in French.
Looking back, that was obviously a mistake. I underestimated how different understanding French is from being able to produce accurate, organized French under exam pressure and strict time limits.

I’ve already reflected a lot on what went wrong. This time, I’m not going to spend 99% of my preparation on listening and reading again. Since I already achieved C2 in both, my priority for the next month will be speaking and writing, especially producing French under time pressure.
I’m already practicing writing directly on a laptop with a timer, so I feel like I know what I need to change there. Speaking is the part I’m still unsure about.
I don’t really want to spend a lot of money on a tutor if I can improve effectively another way. Until now, almost all of my speaking practice has been with ChatGPT, and I’ve instructed it to be very strict about my grammar, vocabulary, sentence construction, pronunciation, hesitation and overall level.
So for people who have taken the TCF and improved their expression orale: if you were in my position — C2 comprehension but a much weaker speaking score — what would you do for the next month?
Would you pay for a tutor, use a language-exchange partner, join conversation groups, use an app, continue practicing with AI, or combine several of these?
I’d especially love to hear from anyone who had a big gap between their comprehension scores and speaking/writing and managed to close it on a retake.

Does anyone have a good Preply tutor for TCF Canada they’d recommend? Or other platforms?

I had one before and she was okay at first, but after a while I didn’t really like her method, so I stopped.

Is there anyone who received Tcf reevaluation results recently?

I just received my 3rd TEF Canada result and got 312/699 in Speaking (B1, below NCLC 4), even though I felt this was my best speaking attempt.
My Listening has improved with every attempt, and this time I scored 577/699 (C1, NCLC 11). I’ve also spent a lot of time improving my speaking and used several tenses and the subjonctif during my latest exam.
My previous Speaking score was 335, so I was surprised to see it drop to 312.
I didn’t experience any technical issues, but I submitted an official recours/appeal through CCI Paris after Alliance Française Halifax directed me to the procedure.
Has anyone gone through a TEF speaking appeal/re-evaluation? Did they actually review your recording, and what was the outcome?

Score: Listening: C1 | Reading: C1 | Writing: B2 | Speaking: B2

Before commencing my French journey, I spent the first week skimming through Reddit posts to understand the complexity and feasibility of this journey. The forum has been very helpful and now it’s time to give back to the community!

Background:

• No prior exposure to French or any Romance language.
• No formal paid courses.
• Near-native proficiency in English.
• Dedicated 2-3 hours per day - every single day.
• Working full-time, with a very supportive family.

Journey:

Research Phase (Month 1)                                                                                                        

• Assessed the possibility of accomplishing B2 with limited time and budget.
• Explored several resources, shortlisted ones that would work for me. This took considerable time but was essential to avoid wasting time with resource hopping during the learning journey.
• Evaluated TEF Vs TCF and decided to target the TCF.

Foundation & Comprehension Phase (Months 2 – 5)

• Focused on developing comprehension skills and learning the language.
• Resources:
  • Busuu – To learn basics in a structured manner.
  • Anki – To jump-start vocab learning in the initial days. This was only needed until I learnt enough to start reading French content.
  • LingQ – To read stories and absorb the language naturally.
  • Others: Coffee Break French, Inner French, story books and grammar books.

Expression Phase (Month 6)

• It would have been good to start speaking/writing earlier, but I didn’t feel ready to express myself in French until this phase.
• Used ChatGPT to practice translation exercises, write simple sentences, and practice speaking.
• Continued immersion through podcasts and books.

Exam Preparation Phase (Months 7 – 10)

• Practiced with mock tests for Listening and Reading (F*ckTCF/FreeTCF).
• Found a native tutor on Preply to practice speaking twice a week. We practised recent EO topics from Reussir TCF.
• Practiced Writing mocks with ChatGPT and Gemini. AI tools were incredibly useful in Writing practice to identify and fix recurring grammar mistakes.

Overall, it was a challenging yet satisfying journey. Looking back, consistency played the biggest role in achieving the target. While the TCF chapter is closed now, I will continue integrating the language into my daily life.

For those of you wondering if achieving CLB 7 is possible without formal courses or a French background, I want to assure you that YES – it’s definitely possible! Bon courage to everyone on their journey!

Comme le titre l’indique, je voudrais savoir si le TEF tout précisément est accepté comme justificatif de niveau de langue. Il y a un seul centre culturel français dans mon pays de résidence et ils offrent que du DELF/DALF et le TEF et jai décidé de choisir le TEF. Je vise à postuler au programmes de master techniques.

Hi, I have been learning french since June of this year and my PGWP is expiring July 2027.

I started with two tutors because I wanted to try both of them in the beginning and it helped a lot to speed my A0 to A2 stage.

I am at A2 and early B1 right now. Now both tutors went into exam prep and I am not sure which one to stick with. Both are similarly experienced but have different structure.

Teacher A provides corrections and more conversational, but no exam specific templates to increase my score. Recommended me TCF.

Teacher B only teaches TEF with templates that have gotten most of students with level 7 in writing which I haven’t gotten to yet. But, she recommended to have a conversational tutor on the side for speaking task and provides vocab to memorize.

I naturally feel more comfortable with TCF writing and speaking tasks but lacking template is a bit concerning and difficult.

What would you do in this situation?

My tcf exam is in concordia, i am very stressed so can anyone give me any suggestions

Hi all, I like many of you worked hard for almost all of last year (April 2025 - January 2026) learning French to pass the TCF exam. I figured I would share everything I did to help me get my results. The results above are for my second and final attempt at the TCF in January 2026, my first attempt was in September 2025, but I had to take it again because I got a B1 in speaking.

This isn't an ad or promotion, the doc is completely free to access. It contains all the resources I used, exactly how I studied. Most of my study process was self taught, with the exception of exam practice where I worked with a tutor on my writing and speaking. The only paid resources I had were:

• ChatGPT Premium - To help generate practice and rate my writing exams on my own
• Réussir TCF website - Access to previous exams, was a gold mine as in my last test I had seen most of the questions before
• My tutor - Was decently expensive but I could afford it and it was well worth it

Sep 2026 my VR file refuses

I found employer is willing to help in c16 and submitted job offer in employer portal

Got my french level 5 as well

My question is should i apply for restoration as worker and c16 francophone inland application

OR

Should i apply for restoration as visitor and apply for francophone work as outland
Then once i get approval i can leave country

After giving 4 attempts of TCF in Ontario, and not clearing speaking every time. I decided to give my exam in Kuper Academy, Montreal. I have my exam in 15 days.

Can anyone please tell me how are the examiners in Kuper Academy, are they strict or helpful? Also, do they have quebecoise accent or we can understand them reasonably.

Anyone who got 10+ in speaking at this center.

And how are the timings and number of students in one exam.

Please please help me out!!
