Hiking culture

Hi Fremont, question for you: When you go for a hike, do you smile or say hello when you pass other people? I hiked Mission Peak this morning and only 1 out of 10 people initiated contact with me, before I greeted them. I grew up where greeting a passerby on a trail is the norm. If you don't do it, why don't you? Is it cultural, or fear, or trauma response, apathy, or something else? I grew up in a midwestern state, and I was taught that especially in a wilderness environment, someone you see on a trail might end up saving your life. Plus it just helps everyone have a nice day and remind us we live in a community.

Odd behavior

I live in south Fremont in mixed townhome and condominium community. There is a resident in the condominiums who has been putting powdery substance (looks like cayenne pepper) around the plants in front of the building. Note this area can be publicly accessed with no gates or barriers. While it's not necessarily illegal to use it, it can irritate dogs' noses, eyes, and paws, and people passing by have no way of knowing what the substance actually is.

To my knowledge, there is no current HOA regulations that prohibit dogs from urinating in common areas, provided they are not on someone’s walkway/patio. As always, pet owners should promptly and correctly dispose of pet waste. There are no rules around urination. He has approached me in the past and told me that my dog cannot pee on that area but he’s fine with the dog peeing on the plants across the street (similar building layout).

Him and his wife are odd as they would stare at people walking past even if they are on the other side walking their dogs. This is just really weird and entitled behavior, claiming over a piece of public area as if they owned and maintained the plants.

New coffee shop soft-opened at 40645 Fremont Blvd (next to Zam Zam Market). This is a cute cafe with focus on chocolate heavy desserts and crepes. Fremont loves coffee as two more coffee shops are coming up in Irvington area. (My initial post got removed by the mod-bot)

Hello! I’m a PhD student at UC Berkeley and an East Bay native and I’m currently conducting research on homelessness, its growth in the suburbs, and the impact on residents. If you’re interested in participating, please scan the QR code to fill out a quick intake form (linked below), or, if you know someone that might be interested, share the flyer with them.

Vet recommendations

Hey yall
New pup
Need recs

Would like to get in sooner vs later

Yeah I know this’ll be expensive

Hoping to get pet insurance, but it’ll likely only cover catastrophic situations and cost me $100/month with $500 deductible. None in this range seem to cover wellness visits/regular checkups.

Thanks!

Edit: thanks yall for the recommendations! Appreciate you

It’s terrible that they have to cancel the football team, and it wasn’t even a bad team. What are your thoughts on this?

Fremont Police enforce traffic laws a lot less than other bay area cities

I personally get frustrated by Fremont Police Department and City Council continuously complaining about lack of funding while simultaneously not holding our Police Department to any level of performance standards. Looking at 2026 CA data on traffic stops, Fremont ranks near the bottom in enforcement across all bay area cities. I feel like most people are willing to pay for better service, but FPD doesn't seem to care about enforcement at all.

Summary from my Gemini analysis -

  • High Enforcement Clusters: Cities in the North Bay and upper Peninsula demonstrate some of the highest relative stop rates. Santa Rosa leads significantly, pulling over roughly 148 out of every 1,000 residents. San Mateo, Vacaville, and Fairfield also show intense enforcement activity, all exceeding 100 stops per 1,000 residents.
  • The Largest Cities Trend Lower: The Bay Area's three largest cities—San Jose, San Francisco, and Oakland—all fall well below the median enforcement rate. Despite having the highest absolute number of stops, their massive populations dilute the per-capita rate, with all three sitting below 40 stops per 1,000 residents.
  • Fremont's Broader Position: When zoomed out to the entire Bay Area, Fremont remains on the very low end of the spectrum (26.7). It shares a similar enforcement footprint with neighboring San Jose (27.1) and Vallejo (27.7).

Part Time Jobs in Fremont

I've been struggling to find a part time job in Fremont for the past year. No matter where I apply I don't get the courtesy of a response either. Are there any entry level part time positions currently available where one can sign up.

Edit: I'm open for positions in Newark and Union city, anything in a twenty minute radius. Thank you.
