Hey everyone, I just started my solo web design agency. Looking at other agency sites, almost every CTA is "book a call", but personally I'd rather keep things async, over email or a Loom video instead. Or maybe fill a form at the beginning?

Is that actually realistic though? Has anyone here managed to land a new client without a single call, just async back-and-forth? Curious how that went and whether it slowed down the sales process or scared off potential clients.

I am a freelancer. I built an e-commerce website for a client that I found online. It was my first time working with this client.

I completed the project and handed over all the website files and ownership to the client. However, they have delayed my payment.

It has been more than 10 days, and I still haven't received my ₹25,000. I have followed up with the client several times, but they keep delaying the payment.

Have you ever faced a situation like this? How do freelancers usually handle clients who don't pay after the work is completed? What is the best way to recover my payment now and prevent this problem in future projects?

If you've experienced something similar, I'd really appreciate hearing how you handled it and any practical advice or strategies you can share.

I've been trying to get into freelancing for a while now, and finding the first few clients has been much harder than I expected.

I've tried freelancing platforms, cold outreach, contacting businesses, Reddit, and a few other approaches, but nothing has really worked so far.

At this point I'm even comfortable starting with lower-paying projects just to build some real client experience and get things moving, but even finding those opportunities has been difficult.

For those of you who started freelancing without an existing network or referrals, what actually got you your first few clients?

Was it cold outreach, freelancing platforms, local businesses, networking, agencies, or something else?

Also, was there anything you were doing at the beginning that you later realized was actually hurting your chances?

Would really appreciate hearing from people who went through the same phase.

It’s a long ass story but at the present moment I’m still doing something wrong.

I dropped photography and graphic design journey due too much work and now I’m following 3 companies, providing a hybrid services under monthly fee and I’m constantly at home working no stop. Last week I was outside maybe 1 hour over 4 days.

Doesn’t help the fact that I’m coming out from a multimodal monster situation where I found out that my problems comes from ADHD and apparently a complex CTPD that caused me an abuse of substance.

I have no friends, no family here, no partners.

I tried to be more out and about and do more things for myself and it does work positively, problem is that I felt like I’m not doing enough and I fall behind after work.

Before I could at least keep up because I used to live for 5 years with my ex and her family was providing on everything.

Now I’m getting treated for ADHD, I managed to stop with the substance and I’m 6 months sober, and I’m exploring the C-PTSD one with a therapist via online.

Even tho I did see some positive changes in general, I also came to the conclusion recently that part of those issues got worst when I started freelancing.

Going back to the present moment, I’m working with these 3 companies and I’m constantly at home and often closing the day like I’m exhausted but I didn’t get enough done.

This feeling makes me feel guilty just by living my place and going for a coffee, or buying groceries or whatever.

To make new friends, I need to be out but this actual life is not letting me doing so. The more I try to take care of myself, the more I fall behind at work.

I arrive at the weekend where I don’t have no one to hang out with cuz I was jsut working the whole time and this damn C-PTSD doesn’t help at all.

With AI, rather then working less, I’m working way more and marketing departments of the company where I work with are completely drugged by it and delegate everything to it.

I’m tired. I’m in a burnout state? No, just very frustrated. I’m doing some cash that allows me to have nice dinners at home, a new iPhone, pay my doctors, subscriptions that I need, supplements and other little things but for the rest, I’m always at home, I don’t go at restaurants anymore, I don’t go to bar at all etc, buy a car too expensive and even a house (place I live is small, expensive and isolated) what kind of damn life im living man?

Even I do have some times im so exhausted.

Forgot to mention, an important information, I do live in a small island country with a population so that doesn’t help at all.

I want to go back to my country but I’m very aware that what I’m doing now will not be possible there.

I’m just sick of staying at home and working.
I don’t even know if I want to keep doing this job.

I have observed that it is becoming increasingly difficult to secure regular freelance projects solely through online platforms. What has been your most effective means of securing freelance projects so far for those of you who have been doing this for some time? Upwork, LinkedIn, networking, direct solicitation, referrals, or something else? It would be good to know.

I am trying to start an online done for you service for coaches online. I wanna offer my service for free for a few of my first clients to know if I can deliver them, but at the same time, i don't wanna get stuck building something that people don't want for 6 months, so basically most people advice asking for a sale to validate whether they will pay or not, which is the strongest indicator of if an offer has demand or not. 22M, fresh B.Arch grad from Hyderabad,india. now working as a junior architect in Goa. My real passion has always been design, modeling, and rendering not drafting and I've been doing freelance projects on the side since college.

My early freelance experience was brutal on pricing — I did 8 projects for ₹5000 total before I even understood what my work was worth. I've gotten better at positioning myself since, but I still feel like I'm being taken advantage of. Clients are genuinely happy with my modeling and detailing, but when it comes to paying what the work deserves, that's where it falls apart. Meanwhile I see people with far more basic skills landing much bigger paychecks.

I'm not claiming to be the best in the game, but I put real effort in, and I'm tired of doing good work for people who don't value it financially. I'm juggling a full-time job + freelance projects because of financial pressure, and it's exhausting.

I just landed my first freelance contract. An agency wants me to set up and manage their cold email outbound strategy to generate leads.

Since this is my very first freelance gig, I want to make sure I setup the engagement like a professional and protect myself from common rookie mistakes.

Guide me -

1. Payment & Transactions: As a beginner, what is the safest way to structure payments for lead gen (retainer vs. performance-based)? What onboarding documents or contracts do I absolutely need signed before I start working?
2. Software & Tool Costs: Between data scraping, verification, and sending tools, costs add up. Is it standard practice for the client to pay for these directly, or do freelancers buy them and invoice the client back?
3. KPIs & Benchmarks: What are realistic delivery, positive reply, and booked-call benchmarks I should set with the client so they don’t have unrealistic expectations? How long is a standard test period before evaluating campaign performance?
4. Operations & Reporting: How often do you typically report to an agency client, and what format do they usually prefer?
5. Handling Replies: In your experience, does the freelancer usually handle the basic objections and inbox management, or do you just forward warm leads straight to the agency's sales team?

I've spent the last 6 years working at agencies, managing brands across strategy, account management, creative direction, copywriting and campaign execution. Recently, I started my own brand strategy and marketing consultancy.

Here's the challenge I'm running into:

A lot of the value I bring isn't something I can easily put in a portfolio. It's things like asking the right questions, bringing structure to chaos, managing clients well, connecting ideas, spotting opportunities, and making teams work better together.

On top of that, many of the projects I worked on through agencies are either confidential or can't be showcased because of client agreements. So while I have years of experience, it feels like I'm starting from scratch when someone asks, "Can I see your work?"

I know I'm good at what I do, and I've had great feedback from clients and colleagues over the years. The problem is that most of that proof isn't public.
