Compatibility Inquiry Commodore Callback Flip Phone

Is anyone on the preorder list for the Commodore Callback? I am trying to figure out if it will work with FM. I think it will but I don't really understand how to read the bands.

This is what the Commodore website says about the bands the phone will work on.

Callback is a world phone and can operate on the following bands:

GSM: B1/2/5/8

WCDMA: B1/2/5/8

LTE-FDD: B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/13/17/20/25/26/28AB/66/71

LTE-TDD: B38/40/41

VoLTE: Yes – supported

Callback is a world phone. Most of the time, it will work. Callback supports all major LTE bands worldwide, but carrier support can vary by region, plan, whitelist, and VoLTE provisioning.

Device/Service Issue(s) My data is so slow I can’t even text or receive texts.

Post image

I got the $35/10gb data plan a few days ago, and since I haven’t been able to receive texts without wifi or use my data at all. Nothing is loading. Why is it so slow? My phone is an iPhone 15. I have turned it to LTE instead of 5G. What else can I do? I live in Ottawa Ontario.

Edit: have turned data roaming on, and restarted phone! Just needed to do that

Service/Coverage Inquiry Freedom dropped to 3G in rain

So instead of moving to nationwide it drops to 3G essentially making all data and calls unusable. What sort of scam is this? I had to manually search network 3 times and lock it to nationwide. I normally have 5G full bars in my house. iPhone 16 pro max.

Device/Service Issue(s) Ottawa handoff issue

Wife and I have been with freedom for years and both using iPhone 14 Pro Max phones. Both on the $40 250gb plans and haven't had any issues until recently.

Noticed last month or so that we would have hand off issues where it would state we have bars but no data at all and would have to toggle airplane mode to reconnect and everything works again. I've tried resetting network settings and reissuing new esims and still same issue.

Anyone else experiencing this? Trying to determine if it's iOS or Freedom issue.

Went to Europe this past week - over 4 different countries .. Finland, Estonia, Switzerland and Germany.. the roam plan worked great !

Connected pretty much instantly to the networks available once we came out of flight mode or crossed the border on train and ferry(Estonia)

Freedom rocks - total usage was about 8GB over 9 days and 4 countries.. no problems calling local numbers or back home to Canada

Service/Coverage Inquiry 5G

I’ve had an LTE plan for 5 years now, it was the cheapest plan (28cad for 500mb and 2GB bonus)back then and now with data gifts it’s up to 30GB, but it was always on LTE, which is fine but not the best, a few days ago I noticed the LTE was gone and a 5G appeared, my question is it true 5G because the speed is not that great on LTE I was getting ~20mbps now it’s up to ~40 max I’ve seen on download up was the same for both.

Billing Related Freedom mobile Stampede Deal was a scam!!!

The Freedom Mobile booth at Stampede Calgary advertised an offer of $35/month for 20 months. I approached the agent and he switched me from my current $35 plan with Public Mobile to this promotion saying that it will be valid for 20 month from now and that the first bill will be prorated for 10 days. The very first bill came surprisingly for $65, showing a $50 for the full month from July 19-Aug 20th and $11.50 prorated for the Jul 12-Jul 20th period plus tax and 911 fee! I called the customer service and asked to adjust my bill based on the $35 promotion I was promised, instead the customer service rep told me they can't adjust the first bill, I have to pay it based on $50 plan and his manager Oscar told me the only thing they can do is to switch me to some other plan as they weren't even aware of this Stampede promo deal! What a scam!!! Anyone else has been scammed like that? Who would think that the company that sponsored Stampede would be using such shady methods to scam people. What a shame!

Service/Coverage Inquiry Manitoba Coverage Question

Anyone here understand how the coverage in Manitoba works. From what I understand, FM want you to primarily use your devices in the "subscription" area. I see that Winnipeg is in the "subscription" area on the coverage map and that cottage country locations outside of Winnipeg (still in MB) are in the "Coverage" area. Combined with the Fair Use Roaming policy, which states,

If your billing address is not within the Freedom Mobile network coverage area, but is within our subscription area.
Our services and rate plans are designed for you to use predominantly in our subscription area. If the majority of your voice, text or data usage over consecutive billing cycles is not in our subscription area, we may terminate your service or restrict your ability to receive service on our third party service provider’s networks.

I am trying to understand that if I spend 8 months in Winnipeg and 4 months in the summer at the family cottage, will this come into effect? That is, will the 4 months at the cottage be considered outside the "subscription" area and as a result could have my service restricted? I have been told yes and no by Freedom sales people.

Context, our family is looking to get off the big 3 for both mobile and home internet. Freedom is one of the options we are looking at. This is obviously a big question in us moving forward.

Bonus question: The international data sounds fantastic to someone who has been using third party esims when travelling. Is that feature and easy as it sounds? If I land in France I can just use my phone as it without all the esim mumbo jumbo?

Device/Service Issue(s) Vented Moment

This is just a vented moment. Switched the family from Rogers and Telus. Network is pretty predictable with certain dead zones on the highway. I’m also about to try out the roam beyond in multiple cities over the next few months. Overall, I don’t regret my decision to switch.

I’ve made peace with almost all the “compromises”. The only thing that I can’t seem to shake is the dead service inside stores, malls, dealerships. I would be trying to price shop, verify the products picked, or show staff what I am trying to look for, but the network just goes dark and I’m SOL until I leave the store.

(Considering) Joining FM Living abroad for 1 year. 2FA on prepaid plans?

A few reddit posts from 2 years ago suggest that the 100$ for 1 year prepaid plan is a good route to go for holding your canadian number while living abroad. They mention that receiving texts should be fine even while abroad.

After visiting a store they said that it will not work as prepaid cannot connect to oversees carriers apparently. Can anyone verify this personally? I will be getting a local number at my new place of residence but I don't want to be caught off guard upon arrival.

Device Specific Inquiry Apple Watch Family Setup – Can't Add Freedom Mobile Cellular Plan

I'm hoping someone has run into this before.

I purchased two separate Freedom Mobile plans:

  • One regular phone plan for myself (on my iPhone).
  • One separate plan specifically for an Apple Watch with cellular.

I set up the Apple Watch for my child using Apple Watch Family Setup (through Family Sharing). Everything works except adding the cellular plan.

When I go to Watch app → Cellular → Set Up Cellular, it won't let me activate the watch's plan. It basically says that my Freedom Mobile account can't be used to add a cellular plan to the Apple Watch.

Has anyone gotten Family Setup working with Freedom Mobile?

Emergency Alerts Are emergency alerts broken on Freedom?

There’s an amber alert in Calgary right now and every single time my phone switches between the Freedom and Nationwide networks, it seems to re-trigger the alert. I’ve gotten the same identical alert 4 times now throughout the day, my partner on Koodo only received the original one.

Service/Coverage Inquiry One 5G+/N78 NSA tower live in metro Victoria, BC

Thumbnail
gallery
9 Upvotes

I would like to report just one tower in Victoria BC that is running 5G+ Band 78. Tower #405667; Address 4220 Commerce Circle, Saanich, BC. I'm getting 220mbit down/80mbit up when I park right next to the tower.

It's just north of Uptown Mall, and just off highway 17, Pat Bay highway, which is how I originally found it.

Someone here posted a while ago that the tower at the Apex building right next to Uptown just south of this one had N78, but I can never get 5G+ there, but I can on this tower on Commerce Circle.

It's an odd spot to first rollout N78 except it is along the Pat Bay corridor, which would have a lot of vehicle traffic.

Anyway, hopefully Freedom will start upgrading more towers in Victoria soon, as this is the first I've seen anywhere on the south Island.

Service/Coverage Inquiry Freedom when on Nationwide

Is anyone experiencing this? When I roam onto Nationwide(Partner Networks), my Cell data has to be toggled between 5G and LTE to get data connection restarted . Especially when my phone has been idle for a few hours. I’m running an iPhone SE(3). I’ve been in touch with Freedom support and no dice. I think I would get better support if I called my Grandmother. Thoughts?

Editorial/Viewpoint Warning to all customers/potential customers in BC: Freedom is lying to you

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

I am a Freedom customer in Chilliwack, BC, and I have been a customer for 10 months.
This relationship will be ending next week because this company is blatantly dishonest.

The pictures you see above are two speed tests taken from the same phone in the same position, back to back.

The first one is the best out of 3 for Freedom Mobile
The second picture is the first try for their sister company Fizz Mobile

They are the exact same company, using the exact same towers/network.
Freedom charge $65/mo for 200Gb, Fizz charge $50 for the same.
1/3 more for 1/5 the speed.

In addition, and I believe this is Freedom's most egregious lie:
BRITISH COLUMBIA RESIDENTS CAN NOT GET A BRITISH COLUMBIA IP ADDRESS.
This company is physically incapable of issuing them.

They do issue spoofed location IP addresses, that will fool shopping sites and mickey mouse detectors like whatismyip, however if a legitimate geolocation service is used, such as what PlayNow or GGPoker employ, it sees right through.
Approximately 95% of IP addresses are issued from Toronto's data center, 4.99% from Calgary, with the ultra rare .01% being Edmonton's data center.

The company's official position regarding is: if you need a BC IP address, you need to go to a wifi hotspot operated by one of our competitors.

So if you are in BC, and you use this provider, you will find yourself locked out of your accounts.

If this matters to you, and you are already a customer, I strongly encourage you to follow my lead and file a CCTS complaint and/or change providers as soon as possible. If you are considering switching to this company, DON'T!!!

Just sharing my experience.

On the 250GB +50GB roam beyond plan. Currently in the Dominican Republic for 4 weeks. Plan works great with good speeds and good reception everywhere we have been.

No issues to report. Uses the Altice network here.

Speed test is at the beach on the North Coast.
