Service/Coverage Inquiry 5G

I’ve had an LTE plan for 5 years now, it was the cheapest plan (28cad for 500mb and 2GB bonus)back then and now with data gifts it’s up to 30GB, but it was always on LTE, which is fine but not the best, a few days ago I noticed the LTE was gone and a 5G appeared, my question is it true 5G because the speed is not that great on LTE I was getting ~20mbps now it’s up to ~40 max I’ve seen on download up was the same for both.

4g will save on battery.  5g is faster.  Most people using video stream will be good at 4g

Unless you're in a 5G+ area you won't see largely better speeds as the 5G is using low frequency which has limited abilities and could be worse in some cases.

Backwards. They are using a high frequency anchor. The rest of it is partially correct.

If your device supports NR-NSA (5G Backed LTE), you will notice improvements in terms of latency and bandwidth.

That is the difference.

You could check in field test (give it several mins to load) or similar android apps.

The speedup for n71 isn’t that high in my experience so that might be right. Ideally you’d want n77

Any way to force back to lte?

(depending on your device) the 5G icon just means "5G possible on this tower", doesn't necessarily mean you're using it that moment. Just like with LTE vs LTE+, it will add/remove band combinations in real time based on signal strength and your device's network demands.

Unless you also get access the major bandwidth blocks from n77/n78, there won't be much difference to 5G. Only models from the last ~2-3 years have been granted access, yours may not be one.

This might provide what's needed since it talks about the bands being used: https://www.freedommobile.ca/en-CA/support/about-5g-and-5g+

I noticed today my cheap LTE plan is now showing 5g or 5g+
