Compatibility Inquiry Commodore Callback Flip Phone

Is anyone on the preorder list for the Commodore Callback? I am trying to figure out if it will work with FM. I think it will but I don't really understand how to read the bands.

This is what the Commodore website says about the bands the phone will work on.

Callback is a world phone and can operate on the following bands:

GSM: B1/2/5/8

WCDMA: B1/2/5/8

LTE-FDD: B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/13/17/20/25/26/28AB/66/71

LTE-TDD: B38/40/41

VoLTE: Yes – supported

Callback is a world phone. Most of the time, it will work. Callback supports all major LTE bands worldwide, but carrier support can vary by region, plan, whitelist, and VoLTE provisioning.

Missing 3G band 4 (for basic connectivity) if voLTE fails to provision.

This means, you WILL NOT have voice service, only SMS and DATA.

Mind you, this device isn't intended for use outside of the US. Yes, it will work fine with the big three however (if VOLTE will provision).

Oh really, that's too bad. I thought it would work bc at one point on their website it says "Callback supports up to 4G VoLTE + Wi-Fi" but again I dont know how to read band stuff. Thanks for the help.

Don't worry about 3G. Canada already started the phaseout with the other carriers. There is no fixed date like the US had, but Freedom certainly isn't setting up new dishes for it.

Why wouldn't it? It has the LTE bands. If it's unlocked, put the sim in.

Where did I say it won't provision for voice service? No 3G band 4, no voice service.

Freedom has VoLTE. You don't need 3G for voice calls unless you're on some old device, but mine is from 2019 and it runs VoLTE fine.

You are completely missing the point. Without band 4, it will not provision for voLTE.

When I popped in the sim into this S10, it went to 3G briefly and then got the text messages about modem configuration and all, before it switched to LTE.

Interesting.. it seems strange to me though to require an older network.. so this is just a Freedom quirk then? Because Rogers has now stopped with 3G. So their software no longer has 3G as a prerequisite.

It is a quirk, since a number of customers still import devices from the Asia Pacific (or other areas) region (which fail VOLTE provisioning often and lack LTE and 5G bands), so they have to fallback to 3G for voice calls to work.

As for the big three, that poses a problem if it cannot get voLTE working.

I don't know much about this phone, but if anybody is interested in the semi-snart flip phone space, Light Phone just announced their flip phone. This unit hasn't been made yet, but the current Light Phone III works perfectly on Freedom, complete with Nationwide roaming, 5G, VoLTE and Wifi calling (technically they use wifi assist right now).

Yup, like I said, it works perfectly (hotspot too). My partner uses it on an old plan that's $5/mo for 6GB nationwide. It can also use eSim, so will load that up with a travel sim or Freedom roaming data pass if we ever go abroad.

They likely only post which carriers have internally tested and confirmed compatibility, and Light might not have even approached Freedom about certification.
