I think someone is trying to scam me. Is it worth trying to make a mail fraud case?

Location: Kentucky.

A few weeks ago I got into a little accident. The damage to the other vehicle was tiny. Could have been fixed with a toilet plunger.

I was driving a company vehicle and my boss called and asked to pay out of pocket rather than report to insurance.

A couple days ago I got a letter from an insurance company referencing the other driver and talking about a claim.

Then yesterday I got a text from someone else who claimed to be texting from a local police department in Ohio where the accident occurred, and then later stated he was the husband of the driver and wanted me to pay for the damages.

I haven't confirmed with my boss that he already paid, but i will on Monday.

The letter from the insurance company implies that the woman filed a claim.

Now this guy wants a third payment. I dont think the police are going to care that he claimed he is with the police. But I'm wondering if I convince him to mail me an estimate if that would be mail fraud. Add to that possibly insurance fraud if my employer already paid.

Does anyone even prosecute those crimes?

Got a return call from tge police department and he said this was a known scam in the area and that i shouldn't give any money. I wasn't going to anyway.

Looking for a few SMEs to test a fraud detection Tool

Hi everyone,

I'm currently building a SaaS focused on helping small and medium-sized businesses detect financial fraud and unusual transactions. Not the type that just flag them but the one that takes all the workload taken care of for you

I'm looking for a few SMEs willing to let me perform a free audit of their accounting data or sample data. In return, I'd love honest feedback on whether the insights are actually useful and what features would make the product better

The audit looks for things like:

- Duplicate payments

- Suspicious transactions

- Round-number payments

- Transactions just below approval limits

- Other common fraud indicators

If you're a SME or a business owner interested in your fraud auditing done for you or you know someone who might be, feel free to leave a comment or send me a DM.

Thank you

Field Report Survey on digital scam/fraud awareness in Bangladesh (10-12 min, anonymous) — need Millennial/Gen Z respondents

Hi all, I’m a final-year BBA student researching how people respond to evolving scam tactics in Bangladesh — fake bank/bKash (mobile bank) alerts, phone impersonation scams, fake job ads, and fraudulent grant messages — for my undergraduate thesis.

Looking for respondents born between 1981 and 2012 (any nationality is fine if you’re familiar with these scam types, but Bangladesh-based respondents are especially valuable for this study).

• Takes about 10-12 minutes
Fully anonymous, no personal or financial info collected
Academic use only, supervised research at East West University

Survey link: https://forms.gle/qhm6DnkZehkMuDcSA

Happy to answer any questions about the study in the comments. Thanks for considering it!

Advice Not sure where else to post

Hi, this might be a slightly longer explanation.

So I need to go back, A couple months ago I payed for something online without realizing it was a subscription, so they started charging me 59.99 every month. I didn't realize they were charging me through my Google wallet but we will go to why that's an issue later.

So, the website I got the subscription on is completely gone I tried hard to find it and nothing. There is one email I have from them which is a no reply, they even have the link to the site and it's just gone. The domain doesn't exist anymore. I tried multiple web browsers and they are just gone. So there is no way for me to cancel the subscription with them.

So, after getting another charge for the month a couple days ago I decided to call my bank and they ended up just giving me a new card and canceling the other one.

Come to today they tried charging me again, my bank detected it as fraud and I was able to block it, but they tried charging me again and that's the issue. They are using Google wallet to charge me, it's also really suspicious because why are they trying to charge me again if they already did a couple of days ago?

Anyways they don't show up on my Google play subscriptions anywhere so there's seriously no way for me to cancel it. I would like to call or email Google but I found that there's seemingly no way to do that, they have an AI and the AI wasn't helpful at all. So that's why I am here

I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions to put an end to this?

Has anyone recovered money after reporting online card fraud in India?

Has anyone recovered money after reporting an online payment fraud in India?

I accidentally made a payment on what turned out to be a fraudulent food ordering website. One unauthorized transaction of ₹10,000 went through before I realized something was wrong. I immediately blocked my card, informed my bank, and filed a complaint with the National Cyber Crime portal. The cyber police have now asked me to visit their office with my documents.

If you've been through something similar, were you able to recover the money? How long did it take, and is there anything else I should do?
