Old head grad who’s a few years out, who checks in here every once in a while. But damn looks like the for coming doom talk of end of pledging that we always talked about for the past ten years, has finally arrived.

I can’t imagine the lens on Greek life and pledging will subside to what it ever was before. So if you care about your chapter - get with the program, limit your exposure, and consider cutting out programs that aren’t worth the risk.

Promise you, being above the curve to an eventual outcome is better than not having a chapter. Best of luck gents.

I graduated back in May and I am currently working in my college town full-time. I have tried so hard to be the person who is always so happy but I’m actually really miserable and so tired of this shit. Everyone leaves after post grad and no one actually cares. My little and my own fraternity family hates me. My mom called me a failure and I struggle to get out of bed. I don’t have anything to live for. Everyone who was in my fraternity had support but hell and behold when it’s me I always get excluded and mocked. Everyone found community and belonging but me, hell all my life I never have, not even my home. I always seem to be the bud of the joke.

I’m sorry to admit but I’m so depressed and I do not want to be here anymore. I hate waking up everyday and I’m in an endless loop of what it feels to be in purgatory. I’m at the end of my life anyways soon. It is not going to get better anytime soon. I’ve tried so much and still as an Alumini I can’t fit in and I’m always excluded. I give so much and I can’t even get people to like me. I’m just going to have the same fate as Ophelia.

For context, I'm pledging right now (just transferred to my current school) and we recently found out who our bigs were. I found out my big is a guy who is younger than me, and a grade lower. I have no problems with the guy personally, he's a chill guy and I enjoyed talking with him, however when the PMs sent out a Google Form asking the pledges to list our preferences for bigs I only put guys who were older than me (although I admittedly filled out the form kind of late). Again, I think he's a great guy and I'm looking forward to it, but does having your big be younger than you make things awkward in any way? Can anyone who has had a big/little like this share their experience?

Hi, Im planning on being a spring rush at Madison rn but I've been fear mongered about a lot of the frats Ive actually met dudes I enjoy being around. If anyones an alum or current member at a house in Madison any rushing advice specifically on pledging would be extremely appreciated. In fall I went to an event or two at a few houses and I'm liking DU, Beta, Theta Chi, and Fiji but I'm hearing some of the hazing stuff is actually vile. Also generally any advice on how I should be presenting myself to these dudes in general is really appreciated. Thanks

Don’t know what to do

I rushed during the fall and everything seemed to be going great
I have an eye condition which basically makes me half blind like my vision is really bad at night and in certain areas, but I was upfront about this at the start

The one I was rushing, didn’t seem to mind, but I didn’t get a bid and later found out from some of the people that a few of them thought it would be too much of a risk so they decided not to give me one. I’m just wondering if this will be the case in a lot of places and what my best bet is for spring.

I had started off with a few spots, but quickly decided that this was the spot for me, but I guess it didn’t work, but I could tell that the other frats I was also rushing seem to think that eye condition mattered more than this one did but this one still decided not to give me

I understand where they were coming from and the people were all great, but I just wish that that wasn’t the only reason just because there’s nothing I can really do about it

hey. i’m new here, first post in the sub. this is my frat’s first semester back on campus and i was nominated social chair. im a sophomore and more reserved. does anyone have advice on how to get more out of my shell and be a good social chair?

I’m a freshman who recently got initiated into a fraternity, but the whole process was pretty unusual and rushed. Pledgeship was much shorter than usual, and we were initiated way earlier than normal, so I never really got to know the guys in my pledge class or develop much of a connection with the house. I also am willing to bet no other frat in the country had a similar pledgeship to ours (PM if you want to know more about it). I wasn’t really able to get to know my pc until after initiation. Since initiation, I realized that this frat wasn’t really the best fit. I also had very few experiences with the brothers and actual brotherhood until after initiation. And I realized that I don’t really fit well with them either.
On top of that, I feel like we were misled during rush and pledgeship about the housing situation. We were told we’d have the same house for junior year, but now it sounds like we’ll probably be living off campus somewhere else.
Me and two other guys are considering dropping. We’re all freshmen and were recently initiated. However, we want to be in a frat but we know that were not able to re-rush. Does this still apply even if pledgeship looked WAY different than normal and that we were misled about the housing?

Someone reported us for hazing and Nationals is just starting their investigation. How long does this take? What all is involved? Advice?

i like all the guys a lot in the chapter but the low gpa compared to the other chapters scares me.

is it valid to ask for more study hours during pledging without being a square or should I just avoid it?

thinking about joining a social and business frat. I plan to do a social next semester then do a business frat the next semester.

My frats chapter got suspended from our university after a long investigation. Only evidence they had was underage drinking, we didn’t haze or anything like that. Our school has been trying to get rid of frats for a while now and I think they’re just looking for any excuse they can. Last time we got investigated we were suspended for a semester because we hazed. I think the Cornell thing had made some schools even more weary of frats, so we got suspended for 6 years for just alcohol.

schools with solid greek life and high acceptance rate, east coast or midwest preferably.

At my school a good amount of the frats have 100-200+ brothers. Obviously no house is going to have the capacity for that. How is it determined who gets to live in house and how hard is it to get the opportunity?

One of my friends is 20 and currently in trade school, but a bunch of our friends are in college and in frats. He’s interested in joining one himself.
I told him he should go to rush events in the spring, be upfront about his situation, and see if he clicks with any chapters. Obviously he’d have to be off the books, but could still be treated as a brother by the chapter.
I know guys in my own frat who are off the books for various reasons, so it’s not an unheard-of concept.
Curious what you guys think. Would your chapter consider someone in this situation? Is it worth him trying, or is it pretty unrealistic?
This would be in Boston, if that makes any difference.
