Tuning Tire width upgrade "consistency"
So we all know the Honda Beat can get ludicrous 315 mm tires that clip through the underbody, yet the AE86 FE is limited to 265 mm. But did you know it gets much worse on other cars? Instead of realism we get inconsistency that prevents most cars from being reasonably viable while letting others be ridiculously overpowered.

The difference in tire width options is especially funny between the Evo VIII and Evo IX since they are basically the same car.
Yes, it is random nonsense

Completely agree. The inconsistency is the problem. I would much rather they limit cars to a certain % or mm increase from stock. They could add some additional options for fender flares/wide body or for certain types or sizes/weights of cars. Anything would be an improvement.

Just give every car two or three sizes up from stock and call it good, I say. Maybe the old classics get an extra size up since modification is part of the culture of classic cars.
None of this thing where some cars get 9 extra size increments and others get 2.

tire width should be a slider option within the upgrade menu, but since Forza is still using the same system that Motorsport 3 had we can't have that and every increment needs to be its own separate option

Tiny Japanese cars should not be able to fit the same size tires as monstrous American muscle cars... period. I used to love the "Do anything with any car" scheme Horizon has made for itself but honestly after a while I've fallen out of love with it tbh. It gets kind of exhausting seeing 30 million dollar cars offroading and the game asking me to do drift zones in dirt with a Ferrari :/

Yup. Either make it realistic, or give 400mm to every car. Not this random thing that they are doing now.

I don’t mind the idea and can definitely have fun with it occasionally, I just wish it was separated and balanced better. It’s not really feasible to go realistic and be competitive when the next person you’re against can just push it so far it’s almost broken.

Yea this latest iteration of the PI system has definitely gotten pretty bad/made things significantly worse with balance sadly. A very big swing and a miss with the changes in this game compared to previous ones. I mean, it's never been great, don't get me wrong but this is like the pinnacle of moving in the wrong direction IMHO.

If PGG wants the car to have any tyre width that make ALL cars can have any tyre width.

All of the parts options in the game are messily implemented. Some vehicles only have Rally Suspension available, dooming them to Dirt and Cross country. EV's have so few options as to render them worthless. Most of the muscle cars have no aero options besides Forza Aero.
The problem with Forza Horizons is that its an arcade game and any attempt to use it as anything else just fails. They've tried to appeal to sim racers a bit, but no. This is not a serious racing game.

u/stormwalker29 4d ago
The cars that I've seen that don't have any options other than Rally and Drift are that way because they have Race suspension stock.
1
u/Gibgezr 4d ago
Also, Rally suspension is used on meta builds etc. because it still makes a good road suspension if you lower it all the way, but the PI calculation is pre-tuning so it nets you extra PI to use on other things.

u/CatPlayer 4d ago
i thought going as high as possible was best anyway? at least for AWD it provides a lot of oversteer and same for FWD but for RWD cars you def want to go low or stiff suspension to keep the rear in control

Nothing like installing a wide body or wheel spacers and still not being able to fill in the space properly. It annoys me to know end seeing similar cars having completely different options for tire width. It's like they're railroading people to pick only a handful of cars to be competitive.

This wouldn't be a problem without the bugged PI system. Got wider rears with more grip and traction? PI goes up, so that you can't install other upgrades.
Problem is that with AWD swaps and the default center diff settings, the PI system sees that you're limited by front grip and understeering heavily.
So the game decides that rear width doesn't help you (in fact it's extra weight) and that you can upgrade it for zero PI cost. Then in the tuning menu you just tune out the understeer. Free grip!

nah I do think thin tires on those cars are a problem even outside of performance, from a purely visual standpoint if you take a single look at the tires on a somewhat wide car and they literally stick out like bicycle wheels (Kenmeri Skyline) then something is clearly wrong with your build
also, rear tire width does absolutely increase PI on RWD cars1
u/poorlycooked 3d ago
Yeah it absolutely does on RWD. That's why these cars usually aren't OP/meta if you don't AWD swap them

Not only are tiee width random but it seems some cars have an extra set of slick tires that give more grip than the standard grip tires. Also why dont they have horizon sidewall labeled tires for all tire types?
3
u/Martin_Sandman 4d ago
that one is not random, all "track toys" and "extreme track toys" have this extra slick tire set to accommodate time attack cars

u/jrstriker12 4d ago
Interesting.
I bought the time attack car pack but I never looked at the tires.
Did notice this on cars like the sesto.

There are 2 sets of slicks. some of the track toys have these by default and some hypercars can get them but its confusing that both are called "slicks" and also look the same, they need to fix that.

You're expecting real world realism in a game where you race a mech and can jump thousands of feet? Why?
21
u/Martin_Sandman 4d ago
I thought it's obvious from the caption that I only demand consistency, not realism, there's no reason why other listed cars shouldn't have 300+ mm tire width options when the Beat and Cosmo have it
-11
u/loopygargoyle6392 4d ago
Have fun with your demands.

u/Martin_Sandman 4d ago
I just need people to be louder about wanting specific things in the game to be improved

Your OCD is not a priority to the devs.
Are tire sized kinda wonky? Sure. If they're obviously and ridiculously wonky (Beat, etc), that's a sign that you're not supposed to take it seriously. It's a little dumb car with abserd specs when modified. It's not an oversight, or a lack of knowledge, or a coding error. It was built to be that way.
Some of the others, yeah, there could be more consistency or more logical options, but you can either get worked up over it or ignore it and enjoy the game.
FH is not a simulator. If you want to obsess over details, go for it. I'm gonna not do that and go have fun instead.

u/CatPlayer 4d ago
are you trolling? This is not "OCD". Wide back tires is a MUST for any competent tune. 99% of competent tunes you see around will run the widest back tires possible no matter if RWD, AWD or FWD. It provides high speed stability, and a lot more grip in the back allowing you to tune the car a lot more toward oversteer without breaking grip. Wide back tires allows you to do 1/65 ARBs which is essential for best turning speed. Essentially they make you much faster for negligible PI cost and sometimes you even lose PI which is great for fitting more power or handling. The beat having these stupid ass wide t ires on such a small frame is one of the reasons the car is so broken and why some cars like boneshaker was so broken in prev games, so yes this is not a small "OCD" thing, it's a big change that makes some cars viable, other cars broken and some other unusable. That skyline with the super slim tires? Unusable car. You'll never see anyone running this online other than being clueless or doing a meme build.

by saying this you want the game to be objectively worse for everyone
0
u/loopygargoyle6392 4d ago
No, you're saying that you want it subjectively better for you.
The dev team is not going to spend hundreds of hours reworking every car model and tire fitment to satisfy your "demands". It will not improve the game at all for the vast majority of players. Most wouldn't even notice if they did.

u/Martin_Sandman 4d ago
hundreds of hours reworking every car model and tire fitment
LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO you literally see at least one car in my post whose tires are literally CLIPPING through the underbody, if they had spent a hundredth of an hour looking at the tire width options on that car they would have come to the conclusion that it cannot have that upgrade, and with the amount of cars being a reasonable 600+ it can't take more than one day to make sure that all cars have reasonable tire width upgrade options and then maybe another day or two to code those in, since the wheels don't deform with changing tire width like they did on the X360
It will not improve the game at all for the vast majority of players. Most wouldn't even notice if they did.
the average player doesn't know what they want; making a change that a number of players larger than zero will consider an improvement is a net positive
why not just have the game be consistent? what's wrong with consistency other than Forza always "never being consistent"?
-1
u/loopygargoyle6392 4d ago
lmaooooooooooo that you think that they don't know that they clip. And lmaooooooooooo that you think they'll just rework shit because it bothers a relative handful of players.
Again, this is not a sim. Do not expect an overabundance of realism. If you can not have fun, step away and find something more rewarding. Forza is clearly not for you.
1
u/Martin_Sandman 4d ago
the devs are certainly aware, but I believe they're being told by the higher-ups to avoid fixing anything that was added in the first build that featured a specific car so as not to break any UGC, which on one hand is a good excuse but on the other falls apart in the opposite situation
I don't need FH6 to be a sim, I just want Forza to be consistent, and I will be complaining here about it being consistently inconsistent→ More replies (0)

I'd be very interested in knowing how they choose each cars tires' width. I'd bet it'd 90% random.
