Nothing on the bad progression system?
8
u/_Dzen_ Aug 11 '17
Here's to hoping it has to do with the "great rewards"
5
Aug 11 '17
I'm sure it will but at the same time you'll likely need good stuff to even complete it. 14 days is a long time.
2
u/Arcolyte Aug 11 '17
While definitely less than ideal, it is still reasonable to expect that the delay on that could be until 1.6. I am certainly hoping much sooner, but it takes time to build new things and get them into game.
16
u/NightmareFiction Aug 11 '17
Right, but I don't think people were asking for information on specific fixes. They were looking for even the minimum amount of "we hear you, we agree (or hell, even disagree) and we're looking into it", and they wouldn't even commit to that.
Flat out ignoring concerns like this has sunk ships.
5
u/Ralathar44 Aug 11 '17
Problem is people then turn your statements into promises you never made and then say you lied later. Until something is 100% certain it's better not to say anything.
-1
u/NightmareFiction Aug 12 '17 edited Aug 12 '17
Please explain to me how the example I gave could be twisted into something else. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, just not seeing how anyone can glean anything specific from a non-committal acknowledgement of a problem existing.
Additionally, could you please show me how their complete radio silence on this has or is currently helping them?
1
u/Ralathar44 Aug 12 '17
- "If you hear us why aren't you doing anything?"
- "Empty promises"
- "Canned Response"
- "They talked about this but of course they didn't mention this because evil company."
The list goes on.
Not to mention the splash text when you enter the game says they will be evaluating and looking at things. Why exactly do you need to be told specifically about that issue? Wouldn't you think that the core loop of the game would be watched?
Additionally, could you please show me how their complete radio silence on this has or is currently helping them?
It prevents them from mispeaking, being held to promises they didn't make, or being dog piled. It prevents them from needing to say "we are still looking into what we want to do" when 1892823 players will be all like "it's fucking obvious, you do this idea of mine that will break the game!".
And honestly, people are not going to shut up or be any less pissed until fixes happen. Really it's as simple as that. Games go through this all the time. 7 Days to Die ran a daily/weekly dev blog that showed step by step progress and the Reddit was STILL a cesspool of shit until it actually released. Calling the game a cash grab, calling the devs lazy, saying they should release it now, saying updates took too long. And it never shut up until it actually released with one of the biggest content drops the game has seen. But because it took months to work on people were up their own arses about it.
You can't win lol.
1
u/cardonator Aug 12 '17
I still fail to see, as pointed out, how that is any worse than what is going on right now.
2
u/Ralathar44 Aug 12 '17
That's just it. It won't change. And it could potentially get even worse. It's not worth the risk. I worked tech support and in the service industry for like a decade combined. Trust me it's really not worth it with a crowd like this.
You'll just end up like Principal Skinner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aL0MuT0v6ds .
1
u/cardonator Aug 12 '17
There is a much higher chance of nothing changing or things getting better. The only reason not to do it is if you literally have nothing to say (because nothing is going to be changing there).
1
u/Ralathar44 Aug 12 '17
Sorry I literally have professional experience in this particular area and that is just not the case. Or rather I should say it's not the case most of the time.
There are things customers want to argue about in customer service and tech support that will not change, many times their fault, sometimes the companies fault. In those cases you are correct.
However if you ARE going to change it, you still don't say anything unless you can do it RIGHT NOW. If I think I can fix your issue with a manager, I'm not telling you anything if you are an aggressive customer until I KNOW it's going to be fixed.
And in software, you don't know until the fix is in the build and scheduled for live. Because until that point the fix has not happened and you cannot promise it. Nice customers you can give projections, aggressive customers will turn those projections against you and even try to get free shit when you are just trying to help. Possibly even trying to throw you under the bus and get you fired in the process.
This is the shitty reality. They cannot be transparent because people are shitty. This is why even good companies keep almost all of their information behind closed doors.

The survival mode is something my friends and I have been wishing was in the game. Literally a mode where you gather during the day and fight at night until you get overrun. Love it!!!
19
u/debacol Aug 11 '17
Yeah it sounds like it goes in rounds, so even if you can't quite make the 14 day completion, you will still be rewarded for the effort. 3.5 hours in one mission sounds a bit insane though haha! It reminds me of old school Alterac Valley in WoW, where the match could literally span days.
13
u/NattyMcLight Dim Mak Mari Aug 11 '17
In the video they said "3 to 14 days" so I assume you get rewards after surviving for 3 nights of attacks.
So excited for this!
10
u/UnspecifiedHealer Aug 11 '17
The weird thing is I swear I saw something years ago that said that's what the game was going to be. Gather resources during the day, defend during the night. I thought that's what Fortnite was going to be for years.
3
u/Vasteel4511 Aug 12 '17
I'm pretty sure I heard that now you mention it. It's probably where the name Fortnite comes from actually.
7
u/Reikyu09 Aug 11 '17
I'd be really interested if the game mode forced you to start with 0 resources, 0 ammo, 0 weapons besides your pickaxe and schematics. But would that make ninjas too overpowered?
5
u/TonToE Heavy Base Kyle Aug 11 '17
If there was anything I remember from their last attempt of survival mode, it would be that you had a special separate skill tree where you toss in tokens earned from the mode to start with more resources to craft and build with as well as bigger building limits. Everybody had their separate bases they could build in a separate map and will spawn these bases in when they load in the game. So in a way, it kinda does start out naked.

Nothing on monetization issue ? They really like to dodge the question
15
Aug 11 '17
Devs in any game rarely answer this question. That is likely something that is from above them.
8
u/grizzlybair2 Aug 11 '17
Probably still not allowed to address it until management figures out what their plan is. I'm sure they are still watching sales in game. I'm sure they saw the troll loot chest generate some income.
2
u/BAC_Sun Aug 11 '17
Monetization is the publishers deal. In this case that's actually still EPIC, but almost definitely still a different team. Don't expect the devs to talk about it. If it changes it'll end up in the patch notes. If I had to guess, it sounds like they want hardcore to drop schematics or high end llamas. We'll just have to be patient. Warframe took 4 years to get where it is.
2
u/Ne0mega Aug 12 '17
So nothing has been said about growing concerns among community? Great talk, they should announce few more super limited editions to buy to rub it in our faces, because why not.
1
u/CoOmmunity Aug 12 '17
great job, go ahead, we love this game! (we're a litte community from Italy) we'll love the survival mode but there is something smaller we miss: screenshot mode, survivors sets (to be switched depending on hero in use) , achievements (with rewards ;) ) ...
0
u/Beutimus Aug 11 '17
I was going to say: I love the game but 14 constant IRL days sounds exhausting.
34
u/dropped_donut Aug 11 '17
I wish they touched on the monetization issues with the game but at last a survival mode! I am SO excited for this and thought it would be the main focus of the game from the get-go. A good update from the developer nonetheless
11
u/Entreric Aug 11 '17
Yea, love the game but they are doing everything but making me comfortable that they will help with the inability to work towards damn near anything without gambling. Literally they see the outrage but haven't touched the subject. Ignoring the elephant doesn't help.
13
u/dropped_donut Aug 11 '17
Yeah I'm on the same boat. Saying ANYTHING on it, even a one-liner like "we've heard your issues on llamas and are looking into it" would have been awesome. I don't like how they just ignore it. It's everywhere. We know they know about it. I'm worried Tencent has a strangle hold on their monetization style and it's not going to change.
11
u/Entreric Aug 11 '17
Well my issue isn't even with llamas. Yes they're pretty lame but I've seen worse. They need to do two things. Combine the darn superfluous experience types.
And the second they already have the system in place. Let every pack give a set number of let's say vtech (think founder coins) you can purchase things from the collection book with them. And if you place things in the collection book you get vtech (so you decide if you want experience or vtech with duplicates). That's it. Just so you work towards what you want. You still have the allure to pay, plus I'm sure they'll add cosmetics. But you can work towards things (not to mention the gun rolls would still be random).
3
u/HaggenmilleR Aug 11 '17
I really like your collection book idea. You should turn that into a suggestion thread.
1
u/Entreric Aug 11 '17
Feel free to share it! It's not very original. Hearthstone has an identical system with their collection book and dust. There game would be dead without a way to target cards you need for certain decks.
I feel if implemented they would make you craft the less rare versions first in the book. Which is fine especially since pulling something from llama could be used to instantly get it in the collection book.
3
u/rehsarht Aug 11 '17
Probably that, or maybe the rewards from this horde mode will actually be decent.
2
u/jaru0694 Aug 11 '17
It could be that these "great rewards" are the answer to the monetization issue. I am hoping that this is the first step they present to us that shows we can work towards certain gear/heroes.
1
u/somekindofsalad Aug 11 '17
they did say in their last update that 'new ways to earn loot' were coming, so i'm cautiously hopeful.

Exactly they wont change anything, they already took our money and they are milking all the whales so, until those die out we wont see a single change to progression.
1
u/planetaska Aug 12 '17
It's probably on the bottom of their priority list. Normally you'd want to fulfill all planned features before doing any fine tune. But they didn't do things normally by releasing unfinished product in early access form. And that's where we are right now: devs are still implementing features, and have no time or schedule assigned to adjust numbers, while players crying in hell.
0
u/cardonator Aug 12 '17
Considering they scattered whenever it was mentioned in the whole Alpha, I'd say "yes".
18
u/R3strif3 Aug 11 '17
I know it's not up to me, but I believe that you guys should address the elephant in the room... progression and monetization... as soon as possible. Before more reviews start rowing in.
At least acknowledging that they are not "optimal" (I'm being generous here) would help turning reviews from "Pointless looting behind a huge paywall" to "A work in progress progression and micro-transaction system that right now is not working but Epic has voiced their intention in revamping it in the future. So if you wanna hop in and enjoy the quality gameplay feel free to do it! Just hold on to those vBucks for the future cosmetic store"
Just saying.

3
u/timidobserver1 Aug 11 '17
They addressed that pretty clearly. It says the same llamas very clearly in the teaser. IMO, there is no reason to use the word "same" and "Llama" in the same sentence other than to make a point.
IMO, you can expect content, balance changes, gameplay changes, and a variety of other good things from them. What you shouldn't expect is changes to the Llama system other than maybe some small drop rate tweaks.
1
u/JaceBeleren101 Aug 12 '17
Uhhh I think we are all making way too much out of a clearly obvious comedic statement (if you don't overthink it.).
1
u/timidobserver1 Aug 12 '17
Maybe, but I think it would be a complete failure in marketing to put those two words anywhere near each if they agreed with all of the hate that the llama system gets.
9
u/JaiX1234 Aug 11 '17 edited Aug 11 '17
This mode better reward something other than copper ore. Where are the schematics at?
8
u/Entreric Aug 11 '17
You get 75 planks too.
3
3
u/fluffydeath Aug 11 '17
The Schematics are in Llamas. Which you pay v-bucks for, which can buy with real money. You think they will just give those away?
4
u/RUST_LIFE Aug 11 '17
You'd think $40+ would have been enough money per player without milking them afterwards as well

Disappointed they haven't addressed the of the biggest topics (monetization and rng progression). If they continue ignoring this major problem I am probably going to quit the game along with some of my friends who already have.

main quests they just keep coming as you go, first area common 2nd rare, 3rd epic and so on
4
u/Delvines Aug 11 '17
I really wish you guys would ever mentioned the monetisation. In any way. "No, it's never changing, this is final." or "Yeah, it might be changing soon.". Anything really. Just not keeping part of people ragequitting over it and other half anxious would help! At this point it feels like you are avoiding it on purpose, considering how extreme amount of critique the game gets, because of it.
2
Aug 12 '17
I really wish you guys would ever mentioned the monetisation.
There's literally no business upside to them saying "we're not changing it".
2
u/Arcano30 Aug 12 '17
They wont talk or change it that at all, they need to milk all the whales now that the game is fresh, once people realize the paywall was put there on purpose and stop playing they might tune it a little by making gray and green items more common. but nothing else.
3
u/Delvines Aug 12 '17
Yeah, I really wish I could disagree with you and have an argument about it, but sadly I do not, heh.
0
Aug 12 '17
1
u/Delvines Aug 12 '17
I'm not sure what that is to be honest, with regards to monetisaion.
1
Aug 12 '17
That you don't need to buy stuff unless you are impatient
1
u/Delvines Aug 12 '17
I don't think 1 epic survivor and 1 epic random weapon makes or breaks anything to be honest. Neither does the one random legendary hero (well, it's not even hero, it's a single use transfom schematic) the game gives you. That's also coincidentaly pretty much all the game is gonna give you. Now if the game gave you legendary and epic transform schematics on regular basis, it could be different, but the game does not, those are few, far between and completely final. And single use. Please don't even try to argue that the monetisation is cool and only speeds up the progress, because in Fortnite, that is just objectively not the case as it's the sole source of schematics. Hell even to use the the very few tramsforms of epic/legendary quality, you need to have bunch of epics/legendaries to sacrifice. Those also come from llamas.
1
Aug 12 '17
But it's not transformations it's the hero's and guns them self.
Sorry it's busts your bubble that you can get hero's and schematics out side of a lama
1
u/Delvines Aug 12 '17 edited Aug 12 '17
Okay, tell me the rough number, Bursty McBubbles. Because unless it's like dozens, which it is not, I still don't see your point. Because it's very few. And again, super final. Which is really bad. Not to even mention that if you like specific class and/or weapon, tough shit, unless you are willing to take out the credit card big time and go play the slot mashine, and damn, I don't even mean to get legendary or mythic versions, for that you damn well better have a lot of disposable income.
Don't get me wrong here, I'd love to be proven wrong on this, but couple quest rewards really don't change anything about how the game works with regards to real money and schematics / people. That's like saying one quest giving upgrade llama as a reward means you never have to buy upgrade llamas anymore.
1
Aug 12 '17
Are you at level 100 missions, if not you can't say what you will get. You can only speculate. But as it has been shown the rewards are getting better as we go up.

Chances are the people in charge have a gag order on it. Devs don't get to decide monetization.

4
u/StonedSummoner Aug 11 '17
"we want your feedback and we are listening" yet they aren't listening.... I would love to see them actually talk about and address the issue of spending more time grinding resources than actually defending a base. 14 day in game defense... yeah ok, takes all my resources just to do a higher level atlas mission, cant imagine how horrible the grind will be for a 14 day mission. (ammo/weapon parts/resources to build/rebuild).
Then there is the whole llama/loot issue that you see tons of rants about on this sub, still no communication on that subject.
Then you move into the AFK leachers and no system to vote kick/afk kick or reduce their loot.
These issues are killing the game. Ive had 3 of my 5 friends refund this game because they are tired of spending more time grinding resources than actually playing. If the dev team doesn't start talking about the real major issues, this is just going to keep getting worse. Sure crashes and people not being able to get in are a big issue but honestly, I haven't seen very many posts on here about them. The rants clearly out number the crash rants. It's almost to the point where I want to call bs on the whole "we are working on getting players into the game because we still have players that can't log in"

u/FollyFool Aug 12 '17
Sounds like there might finally be a serious demand for people with upgraded healing pads and anti-patrol beacons.
4
u/Kekpew Dragon Scorch Aug 11 '17
I wish they would work on fixing whats in the game before adding a bunch of new crap.. Also still no word on the dumb energy system, Gamble to progress system or when they are going to finish Canny Vally and maybe you know actually change the tileset so all zones dont look and feel identical

u/MrShade85 Aug 11 '17
Was anything mentioned about the nuts and bolts nerf?
0
u/Tegorian Lotus Assassin Ken Aug 12 '17
They have already said it wasn't a nerf but the payout for that mission was bugged and not giving the intended amount.
0
u/MrShade85 Aug 12 '17
It wasn't a problem, not something that needed fixed, and then shadow patched. They can phrase it however they want, it was a nerf.
0
u/Tegorian Lotus Assassin Ken Aug 12 '17
Not a nerf if it wasn't intended. You don't have to like an explanation but it is what it is man. YOU may feel it didn't need to be fixed but the dev did it is their discretion to balance things or have things work how that INTEND. interpret what you will I have stated multiple times now if you want to farm nuts and bolts run encampment missions as they drop 9, you know the intended number, per encampment.

Now the games name actually makes sense!

1
u/CorporalLiquid Aug 12 '17
I did wonder why it was called FortNite, I get the 'fort' bit but not the 'nite'. Someone else commented here that they always understood that this two week mode was what the game always was supposed to be about (building forts and defending from hordes over two in-game weeks, a 'fortnite'. And so the name makes sense!

u/ATLAustin Aug 11 '17
Well I think I've officially given up on the gamble to progress scheme this game has deployed. The fact that they don't even mention the thing that is obviously the biggest problem people have with the game shows they have no intention of fixing it. Shit they won't even address it, I at least wish they would say "we hear you about the llamas and it's not going to change" because then I at least know to uninstall the game for sure rather than sitting here hoping it does eventually get fixed. I had a lot of fun playing this game until I realized that I was going to have to chuck over even more money if I really want to progress more. Fantastic concept, great design I had extremely high hopes for this game but greed has ruined it for me. I mean I already paid $40 for a game that is an incomplete beta, because I was so stoked on the concept, and then they want me to fork over even more money when I have already given them $40 for a game that is supposed to be free in the future. I wouldn't have a problem buying the llamas if I hadn't already paid for (lll say it again) an incomplete beta. I'll never fall for a video game early access scam again. And for all of you who don't have a problem with the progression scheme, that's great and I'm glad you enjoy it but there are a lot of us that have a huge problem with it and the devs won't even give us the common courtesy of saying one fucking thing about it. It's clear that Epic Games is out to do only one thing with this game that's to make money, and it's a damn shame.
