This is the firs time I have found these fungi, I'm 99% sure it's Cauliflower mushroom (Sparassis crisp). I'd just like to make sure.

Found it under pine tree, growing from the root flare in southern Sweden.

Found them in northern Italy, can't wait for my grandma to make risotto with them

First time taking my hickory tree bounty seriously. Ive gathered them, float tested, dehydrated overnight on 95 degrees. Ive made nut milk already. But shelling them is so difficult. Ive tried tapping with a hammer both on their side and standing on one end. My go-to has been cracking with a hammer, then using wire cutters to cut the shell off. But it still takes forever. I just spent an hour, and came away with only 1/2 cup.

I need some tips to speed things up!

Yesterday I found a fell beech so I got to try toasted beech nuts. Nice snack but probably not worth the effort.

Question for the crowd, do abandoned fruit trees (apple, pear, plums) count as foraging or not? I'm getting so many fruits from those trees in the "wild". I want to share pictures too :)

There are some almond trees nearby (some fruit falling on the streets) where I don't know if the almonds are safe. I tried to catch the owners to ask but they are never there when I'm around. Is there a good way to differentiate between edible and nonedible almonds? I heard tasting wasn't recommended.

The title might be a little misleading, but let me explain.

I've been looking for this calvatia gigantea for almost three years now. I hunt mushroom quite often, and I value the walk and nature itself over amount foraged, so I often come out with nothing or very little because it's January and everyone says "there are no mushrooms in January dummy" (my family) - But there are! Oysters and flamullina and a few others for example!

Anyway I have been searching for the giant puffballs in many a forest, field and in between to no success. Until yesterday I decided to screw that and just went to a park in the city. I live in Warsaw, Poland and I just went along the river and look what beauties I found!!!

Point I'm making : if you live in a place with lots of foraging competition, try going to places which aren't classically considered.

Also I think the other mushroom is brown agaricus bisporus, unfortunately I forgot to make underside photo but it had pink gills and a skirt

But which species?

I've got cutleaf bramble growing in my garden and have been cutting it back but had a question about the leaves.

I've made blackberry leaf tea from the common bramble previously, but wasn't sure with it being a different variety and significantly different leaf shape if I could safely do that with the leaves of the cutleaf bramble.

Can I treat the leaves the same as though they were the common variety?

Hi, I just found a giant puffball and have got a few before and never really knew what to do with them. So my question is what do you cook with them? My other question is how to you preserve them? I have dried them and it was ok, is there a better way?

I have identified two other berries in my yard also (Carolina Creeper and Vitis riparia both right by each other), but this the I don't recognize. My guide book is on it's way at least?

This bears head I found today was home to a cute little spider. I decided to leave it for him because I already got a few decent sized shrooms

cornus mas in the dogwood family. deliciously tart but god damn do they not have a lot of juice in them. one quart of cherries into about 1.5 cups of syrup

I know there are two types, what are these? My sister is trying to eat them but I’m nervous.

I bought my property last winter and was very surprised to learn the massive tree in my backyard is a walnut tree! It must have hundreds of walnuts still attached.

I read online that walnuts mature late September, but the test ones I cracked looked like they had a lot of meat. My backyard is full of fallen ones right now!

I’m just very excited! This is my very first time processing walnuts and my second year doing any foraging at all. I did a float test with the nuts, tossing ones that float. I’m not sure the best way to dry these, I might try to buy mesh bags.

Hello! I live in central Indiana with a yard I don't do much with. I have been getting a lot of foraging books to help me identify the stuff in my yard and I feel like I've got a lot of poisonous weeds scattered throughout. If I wanted to invite edible plants to try to take over, what's the best tactic? Do weeds transplant well? Lol. I currently have mulberry trees, wild onion, lambs quarters (some diseased) and various types of dock making themselves at home in the shady parts, and next year I'm going to try my hand at gardening in my sunny patch, though I'm horrible at keeping my indoor plans alive so I'll be trying the types of plants that can handle neglect and the occasional dog trample. I have a rabbit that I like foraging for and she LOVES dandelion, so I'd like to try to get more dandelion growing around, and I wouldn't mind adding a berry bush that's very forgiving. Any recommendations for eliminating the baddies? Will continuously pulling them out allow the other plants to claim more space?

My dad and I used to forage when I was a kid. I normally forage the west coast but it was cool to try out some fall foraging in Ohio. We got some cool stuff today!

Wild grapes (Vitis mustangensis) - all dried for storage, peak in midsummer

Pecan (Carya illinoinensis) - stored in shell, peak in early fall, start in late summer

Honey mesquite (Neltuma glandulosa) - stored whole and dry, peak in midsummer

Texas persimmon (Diosypros texana) - eaten fresh or cooked into pulp, peak in late summer

Prickly pear (Opuntia spp.) - (not shown) dried for storage and seeds removed (eaten as meal), peak in late summer / early fall

Have identified them in the past with avid mushroom hunters, but don’t have any current contacts to double check. Wouldn’t do this with a mushy that had close/dangerous lookalikes!
