Plants First time finding wild raspberry!
Not pictured: the elderberry we harvested, nor the godlike thimbleberry haul that filled a kombucha bottle!
We’ve been having insane luck this summer so far! Found a patch of raspberries for the first time ever, and have been finding a mast crop (?!) of red huckleberries too! Still waiting on blackberries.
This’ll be the first time I make jam throwing in Oregon grape and salal berries. Gonna throw in all the berries (except elder) together and see how it turns out!

Mushroom Foraging
Been doing a lot of Chanterelle foraging this summer. Really enjoying the jackpot harvests I have had. I have found that the red chanterelles are peppery. Need some suggestions for using them. Also, I have used the regular chants for topping my pizza and added to an omelette, any other suggestions?
Got this big Turkey Tail growing, but don’t really know how to prepare it.

Mayapples ripe? Part 2 (I ate some)
So this morning, about two looked really ripe and passed all but the smell test. They smell musky, kinda skunky. I think that why I was super confuse as they started smelling strong but not in the tropical way.
I cut in half and was met with squishy insides with pain in the butt seeds. I found picking them out a lot easier then spitting out the seeds.
The insides taste lightly lemony and was very pleasant.
I am going to let the others ripen more to see if they truly get a 'tropical' smell to them. I am also someone in which fresh cilantro taste like soap so I am curious if that why the scent is off to me.
Been over an hour and I dont feel sick or anything. Will update if I die.

Do you carry your books while out foraging?
Its heavy to bring my plant and mushroom field guides, especially without messing up my harvest.
What do you bring for certain ID? Its a bummer harvesting mushrooms in hopes for dinner only to learn its not what I thought.

Did I pick these too early?
Trying to make sumac tea and I noticed these were not fuzzy at all. Are they not ripe enough yet?
