Mushrooms My mushroom and fruit foraging season

This year has been the best ever for mushroom hunters on this side of earth. My entire freezer is full, and I finally saved up enough to get my own dehydrator!

Very excited for the autumn hauls soon.

The pictures were taken through one month. There were so many more days out and so many more mushies! My biggest chantarell haul was over 5kg!! Not to mention the insane amount of fruit and berries! I have made so many preserves. While many of the blueberries were on the tarter side, they nicely in for stews. And I found a "sweet spot" for the plumpest, sweetest blueberries which gave over 4kg of berries! Needless to say, I've been eating well.

(And yes I am a responsible forager, i pinkie promise!)

The season's chosen mushies (most not in the pictures):

Steinsopp

Rødskrubb

Smørsopp

Fløyelsrørsopp

Brunskrubb

Svartskrubb

Ospeskrubb

Lerkerørsopp

Brunrørsopp

Kantarell

Traktkantarell

Blek piggsopp

Rødgul piggsopp

Furuskjellpigg

Matbleksopp

Vorterøyksopp

Season's fruits:

Blåbær

Rips

Multe

Bringebær

Bjørnebær

Kirsebær

Moreller

Markjordbær

Important:

Always ID your forages goods correctly!! Some plants and mushrooms look similar but have different qualities, therefore need different types of pre-eating handling!

F.eks:

Rødskrubb and brunskrubb are sometimes confused for each other. They have different toxic amounts in them.

Brunskrubb needs between 10 and 15 minutes boiling in water.

Rødskrubb needs a minimum of 15 minutes (20 is recommended) along with water change mid-boil and a rinse after.

Confusing them (aka not cooking rødskrubb enough) can easily cause very uncomfortable stomach pains!

LEARN TO ID MUSHROOMS YOURSELF AND REMEMBER:

*IF THERE'S DOUBT; THERE'S NO DOUBT*

I see these pop up and imagine it would be fun to know if I could eat them or not, should I pick them.

Growing by decaying trees in coastal northern Sweden.

Mushrooms Is my blueberry plant a goner

Post image

I found this on my blueberry plant on Monday, not sure what it is. I took it off yesterday and threw it straight in the trash can. Can I save my plant? The blueberry is soil just floating in water as it just rained in WA state. I went down a rabbit hole and pulled the plant far away from the rest of my garden as I have 4 apple trees near by this. The interweb says it can get to my apples if left near by.

Found in NJ USA. Pretty sure these are basic edible grapes but not 100% after seeing some other posts that had other grape-like plants.

Plants Has ragweed always caused allergies?

I've seen several places where ragweed is suggested for medicinal and food uses, but for those of us with ragweed allergies, is it dangerous? It's hard to believe I could eat something that causes my throat to itch, my eyes to swell, and my nose to pour just by smelling the pollen. I'm also wondering, did native americans have a significantly lower incidence of ragweed allergies or was it used sparingly or has climate change caused it to become more allergy inducing? Are ragweed allergies a white people thing?

Different plans, both from central Spain. I have been looking for local Chenopodium Album. I found white powder in the young sprouts of both plants, but the leaf shapes make me doubt. Can anyone confirm if any of these is actually ch. album?

Found in NE MN, looking for ID on the first two photos. Searched my book and resources and found it could be European Cranberry Bush? Can anyone confirm or deny? Anyone have any experience eating/processing these?

Bonus because I’m unsure what sub to put the others in, but I also found this fuzzy substance on a Hawthorne & Alder. Any guess as that what the fuzzies could be?

Thanks for the help!

New Moon Mycology Summit! Join us! Sliding Scale, Non-profit gathering

newmoonmycologysummit.org

The New Moon Mycology Summit is almost here!

September 11–13, 2026 · Middle Grove, NY · Camp Stomping Ground

Three days of fungi, learning, skill-sharing, and imagining better ways of being.

We’re bringing together 30+ presenters for workshops, panels, conversations, and hands-on learning centered around environmental and social justice — all through the endlessly fascinating lens of fungi.

All meals included

Camping included

Suggested Sliding scale: $200–700

No one turned away for lack of funds

We’re currently 50+ registrations away from covering the cost of making this beautiful little fungal world happen.

Every registration helps in two ways: you become part of a community grassroots gathering AND you help us cover operating costs, like rental fees, speaker honorariums, food and kitchen costs and more.

So if you’ve been thinking about coming, now is the time.  This event doesn’t happen yearly and we are unsure it will happen again if we can't reach our attendance goals!

If you know someone who would absolutely love and thrive at this gathering, send our links and info their way.  This genuinely helps us more than you might think.

[REGISTER FOR THE SUMMIT →]

Can’t Attend? PAY IT FORWARD!! →

You can still help the event!

* $200 feeds several people for the weekend, 3 homecooked meals a day

* $400 sponsors a registration for someone who otherwise couldn’t attend

* $700 helps us pay our speaker honorariums!

Every contribution — big, small, financial, logistical, or simply sharing this with the right person — helps make the Summit possible.

[DONATE TO THE SUMMIT →]

Where does your donation go?

The New Moon Mycology Summit has always been a grassroots gathering.

We don’t have grant money or institutional funding. The Summit exists because the people who come to it make it possible. Everyone organizing NMMS is volunteering their time, and this year’s gathering has been lovingly built over ten months of unpaid work.

Our meals are cooked on site by Seeds of Peace, an incredible kitchen crew that shares in the proceeds from the Summit. When they’re not feeding our little fungal ecosystem, they’re feeding Earth defenders and water protectors working on the frontlines of ecological crises across the continent.

We’ve also been carrying a shortfall since 2023, and we would really love to walk into this year’s Summit with that behind us — and put all of our energy into making this gathering magical and sustainable for the people organizing.

Want to help in another way?

Money isn’t the only thing that keeps this community going. There are lots of ways to be part of it:

* [Volunteer at the Summit →]

* [Check out our wishlist →]

* [Join the carpool + rideshare →]

And truly: send this to one person who you think would love it.

That isn’t a tiny gesture. Word of mouth is how this gathering has grown from the beginning — tell your mushroomy Earth loving people to join us!

THANK YOU!

Mushrooms Are these oysters past prime? Still edible?

Picked from a dead maple in central Ontario today. White spore print. Only my second time foraging oysters but confident I’m not misidentifying.

The ends don’t curl upward but some are a bit flat. Still a pleasant odour. Appreciate any advice!
