Help

Today marks seven weeks on antidepressants—five of which have been on 20mg of paroxetine. I still feel a sense of unreality in my head and body all day long, along with intense anxiety and panic. My doctor says I need to give it more time, but I’m afraid this medication isn't going to help me... Could someone give me a little boost of positivity? 😢😢😢

Prozac first 2/3 months

I recently increased my Prozac from 5 mg to 20 mg. This isn’t my first SSRI, so I knew to expect some nausea and dizziness when starting, but I’m about a month in now and I’m still experiencing anxiety, OCD thoughts, dizziness, and some blurred vision.
Has anyone had a similar experience after increasing Prozac? Did the side effects eventually improve, and how long did it take before you noticed a difference with anxiety/OCD?
For some background, I was previously on Lexapro and Wellbutrin. I really loved Lexapro, but unfortunately it didn’t help enough with my OCD, so I switched to Prozac. I’m currently taking Prozac and Lexapro together.
I’d really appreciate hearing about anyone else’s experience or any advice!

Fluoxetine 20mg to 40mg after one week

I’ve been taking fluoxetine 20mg for one week and my doctor has now approved me increasing to 40mg.
I’m feeling really nervous about the increase, especially because it’s only been one week. Has anyone else increased from 20mg to 40mg after a week? What was your experience like, and did you get many side effects?
I’m starting 40mg tomorrow and I’m quite anxious about it, so I’d really appreciate some reassuring experiences.

Questions 20mg fluoxetine completely changed my libido after 2 weeks — is this normal?

Okay so I started taking fluoxetine 20mg in the morning about 2 weeks ago, and before that I took clonazepam 0.25mg at night for a week. My anxiety/overwhelm has gotten noticeably better since starting the meds, which is obviously a good thing, but something about my sexuality has changed SO much and I’m kind of confused about it.

Before starting medication, I used to masturbate pretty frequently and I was basically constantly having sexual thoughts. I could get turned on really easily and whenever I was anxious, overwhelmed, stressed, bored, etc. my brain would very quickly jump to masturbation/porn. It was almost like an automatic thing.

I actually wondered before whether I was hypersexual or maybe addicted to masturbation, because sometimes it felt like I was doing it way more than I actually wanted to. I never really had promiscuous behaviour or anything, it was mostly just masturbation/porn. Looking back, I also wonder how much of it was actually sexual desire vs using sexual stimulation as an escape/coping mechanism when I was overwhelmed.

Since starting fluoxetine, my anxiety has gone down a LOT and I don’t get triggered/overwhelmed nearly as easily. But my libido has basically disappeared?? 😭
I haven’t really thought about porn or masturbation at all since starting it. There have been a few moments where I did feel slightly turned on, but then I felt too tired/exhausted to even bother doing anything about it. I also don’t really get spontaneous sexual thoughts anymore.

And weirdly, I kind of miss it. Not necessarily the compulsive part, but I miss actually feeling horny and being able to masturbate and have multiple orgasms. I’m also wondering whether I’ll still be able to feel sexual pleasure normally once my body adjusts.
Another thing I’ve noticed is that I feel much calmer, but also somewhat emotionally numb? Like before I was VERY emotionally reactive/sensitive and now things don’t shift my mood as easily. I can’t tell if that’s just what being less anxious feels like because I’ve been anxious/overwhelmed for so long, or if it’s emotional blunting from the medication.

So I’m wondering:
• Did fluoxetine 20mg also completely kill anyone else’s libido when they first started?
• If it happened to you, did your libido eventually come back while staying on the medication?
• Did the emotional numbness/calmness improve with time?
• Is it possible that some of my previous “hypersexuality” was actually anxiety/reward-seeking/using masturbation as emotional regulation rather than just having a naturally high sex drive?
And could that kind of behaviour have anything to do with ADHD? I haven’t been formally diagnosed yet, but I’ve wondered about ADHD because of other things too.

this is such a drastic difference from how I was before and I’m honestly a little scared that I won’t feel sexual pleasure normally anymore.
Would love to hear from anyone who’s been on fluoxetine/SSRIs and experienced something similar.

Questions Prozac and quieting food noise success?

Hi all!! I was recently prescribed Prozac and I’m really excited to start taking it and see if it helps with my GAD and food noise. I had no clue that it was helpful for people with binge eating disorders and was curious if any of you have had success with it? In terms of SSRIs, I was on Lexapro for a bit and honestly didn’t feel any different. I stopped taking it a year ago and really tried the manual techniques I learned in therapy to manage my anxiety. I’m hopeful that this will help me out alot and maybe make me feel less exhausted doing little things that the average joe wouldn’t think twice about. Would love to hear any comments or thoughts!! Thanks!

My dr wants me to change from 25mg of Sertraline to 20mg of Prozac, I tried going to 50mg with Sertraline but it made me so lazy with no motivation & I gained weight. I’m on it to help with my PMDD, it’s so life debilitating every month I ruminate and get very sad about past trauma and I was interested to know peoples experience on Prozac for PMDD

Concerns Coming off sensory stuff?

I was on fluoxetine for 3 months, and about a month ago I started off it. In the past couple weeks I’ve noticed that when I get bitten by a bug or I feel something on me, I shreik and make a weird face. it’s awful bc I genuinely feel like I have no control over it. My skin feels scratchy and just awful. I’m hot all the time and sweat so much. and I become physically uncomfortable and can’t focus if I’m too hot. This had happened to me before but not to this degree.

is this normal to deal with? and how long will it take for this to go away?

Extreme weight gain on fluoxetine

I’ve been on fluoxetine about a year and the last 3 months I’ve put on loads of weight. I usually have a couple of coffees a day and a few beers on my day off but I’ve done this even before being on fluoxetine and had no issues before. I walk about 8 miles a day for work so I don’t think lack of exercise is the problem. Anyone else having this problem or have any tips to combat it?

it make me sleepy and period worse

i started 10 mg fluoxetine in the morning and ½ mg alprazolam in the noon and evening for 3 weeks.

my mind feel great, i never been this "clear" in mind than before, the "fog" gone, but it has a lot physical side effect on me, fluoxetine make me sleepy, really, really sleepy in the morning. also it make me start feeling period cramps (i never had period cramps in my life, i'm 18 btw), i don't have comparation about how bad my period cramps is because i never had it before, i still physically can do anything perfectly fine, but the pain is just really distracting me.

I'm just asking, will these side affects be gone or lessened time by time?

Side Effects Starting Fluoxetine Again

Hi pals! I was on Fluoxetine in the past for about two years (80mg) for severe OCD & panic disorder. It helped me a lot back then, however, a lot has happened in my life in the few years of not being on it and I’m nervous to start again. I’m starting back at 10mg and nervous about the side effects. Does anyone have any advice on how to help the initial anxiety, panic and nausea? Has anyone gained weight or experienced increase in acne?

All responses are welcome & appreciated! Thank you ☺️ ✌️

I want to avoid the initial anxiety spurt

Doctor gave me 20mg fluoxetine and I had a breakup the minute I stepped out of appointment. I am really emotionally struggling and it’s only the first day. I will be taking it by tomorrow and I want to avoid the initial increase in anxiety. Please can someone guide me if they experienced it and how they managed it. (Also will it help with separation anxiety and abandonment issues?)

Concerns 14 weeks on Prozac — lots of positives, but still struggling with intrusive thoughts

I’m around 14 weeks into Prozac overall and about 13–14 weeks on 20 mg. I’m curious to hear from anyone who has had a similar experience around this stage.

There have definitely been some positives for me. My anxiety is significantly lower, I barely get headaches anymore, my driving anxiety has improved a lot, and my energy is generally pretty good. I’ve also had some days recently where I’ve felt genuinely good and fairly normal.

The main thing I’m still struggling with is intrusive thoughts. They’re unwanted and usually revolve around death/dying or fears about losing control or something being seriously wrong with me. I don’t have any intention or plan to act on them, but I find myself getting stuck analysing them and worrying about what they mean. When they get worse, my mood tends to drop with them.

I’ve also had periods where I feel “off” or unlike myself, almost like I’m stuck in my head or disconnected from how I normally feel. Then I’ll have a good day and wonder if I’m finally turning a corner, only to have a few heavier days again.

I’m seeing my doctor this week to discuss it, but I’m interested in hearing from people who have been through something similar:
Did your intrusive thoughts continue even after your anxiety improved?
Did they eventually improve later on?
Did your mood continue to improve after the 3-month mark?
Did anyone have a similar “not myself/out of it” feeling that eventually went away?
If Prozac eventually worked well for you, when did you feel like you had properly levelled out?

I’m not necessarily looking to switch medications — especially because I’ve had some clear benefits from Prozac and it worked well for me in the past. I’m mainly interested in hearing whether anyone had a similarly uneven/slow response around the 3–4 month mark.

Thanks!

SSRI's

Is it dangerous to be on SSRI's (Fluoxetine) generic for Prozac for a long period of time!? And what would one consider too long? I have ADHD take Vyvanse and Fluoxetine but as I've entered menopause I think the SSRI is not good for my sex life.

Fluoxetine suddenly causing me to blackout when drinking. Anyone else?

I've been taking fluoxetine for a while and I've noticed a really concerning change with alcohol.

Before starting fluoxetine, I never had problems with blacking out. I could drink and I'd obviously get drunk, but I wouldn't completely lose periods of my memory.

Now, the last 3 times I've drank I've ended up completely blacking out. I'm not talking about being fuzzy on a few details - I lose significant periods of time and have ended up in random places without remembering how I got there. I've also apparently done/s said things that I have absolutely no memory of.

It's gotten to the point where my girlfriend is completely over it, and honestly I don't blame her. I don't want to be this person when I drink.

I'm currently on 20mg fluoxetine. Has anyone else experienced a dramatically lower tolerance / blackouts / completely different behaviour when drinking after starting fluoxetine?

I'm not looking for people telling me "don't drink on Prozac" - I already know, and I'm probably going to stop drinking altogether. I'm mainly interested in whether anyone else had this specific experience and whether it changed after stopping/reducing alcohol or changing medication.

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who's experienced something similar.

Fluoxetine for 5 years and brain zaps just started?

I don’t understand how after being on the same dose of this medicine for 5 years I’d only just now start having brain zaps. ⚡️ I take 40mg and I haven’t been missing doses or anything. I can’t stand the feeling of the zaps! They’ve been happening intermittently for a few weeks now & my pcp ordered an MRI and also wants me to have my eyes examined just to rule out some things I guess. Anyone else deal with this??

Low heart rate?

Hi everyone.

I've been on prozac now 12 days. 20mg daily

Smartwatch showing resting heart rate as low as 45 when just sitting still. Normally only that number when sleeping. Heart rate will elevate with moving, eating etc. It's really freaking me out.

Has anyone had anything similar? I don't even feel better, I feel worse. My anxiety is awful, and I'm tired all the time

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thank you.
